INTRODUCTION

The human body is a wonder of nature. It is very complicated with many

different parts. These parts called organs have specific functions to perform so that the
human body will function normally.

Organs of the human body function like a team. Organs working together make
a system. Your body is made up of several systems.

What do organs do so that the systems can function well?

In this module, you will discover the functions of different organs of the human
body.

Taking Care of the Module

Before we move further, here are some reminders on how to use this
module:

1. Handle this module with extra care so that it will last long and more
learners like you will also experience this fun learning in Science.

2. Read the lesson carefully so that you will understand the lesson well
and you will be able to answer the given activities.

3. Read and follow the directions on every activity.

4. Be honest in answering the activities given for you.

5. Do not write on this module. Write your answer on a separate sheet

of paper.

1
What I Need To Know

This module is a self-learning material in Science 4

that will guide you in understanding the content
standard which is demonstrate understanding of
how the major internal organs such as the brain,
heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines, kidneys,
bones, and muscles keep the body healthy.

Presented activities/ exercises and texts are developed in order to meet the
following objective:

A. Describe the main function of the major organs

B. Communicate that the major organs work together to make the body
function properly

2
What I Know

Label the major organs of the body in the illustration below

What’s In

Study the pictures below.

Share your ideas.

Think on how these ways or practices prevent soil erosion.

What’s New

 Erosion control is the practice of preventing or controlling wind or water

erosion in agricultural land development, river banks ,coastal areas, and
construction.
How to Control Soil Erosion?

Natural Vegetation
The simplest and natural way of controlling soil erosion. It allows plants and
trees to grow naturally without human interference. By letting these plants
grow, root systems will be developed. These root systems grip on the soil and
make it more stable, thereby minimizing the movement of the soil throughout
the ground.

Contour Plowing
4
Contour plowing is done to slow down the flow of water and the soil that it
carries. Because the erosion usually takes place on a slope, farmers follow the
contours or curves of the land instead of planting the crops up and down the
slope.
Strip Cropping

Strip cropping involves alternately planting different crops in strips. The strip
crops lessen soil erosion since they hold much water in the soil.

Crop Rotation

Crop rotation refers to planting crops in a different spot of the year. It

prevents pests from destroying the plants and also maintain the good quality
of the soil.

Terracing

This involves planting on terraces or steps built on the slope of the

mountainsides. The wide flat rows are built to act as a ridge that helps slow
Riprapping
down the water and the soil that it carries.

This involves building of ripraps or chunks of stones or rocks arranged on

the edge of a slope. It serves as a ridge to control soil erosion.

Forest Canopy

It acts like an umbrella that lessens the impact of rain on the forest floor.
The leaves that cover the forest floor minimize the force of surface run offs
so less soil is carried away by water.
What is it
6
Answer the following questions: 6

1. How can we control/prevent soil erosion?

2. How do natural vegetation prevent soil erosion?
3. Why do farmers who plant on mountainside usually do contour plowing?
4. How is strip cropping done? How can it control soil erosion?
5. Have you been to Banaue Rice Terraces in Mountain Province? How do
the rate of erosion slowdown in this kind of practice?
6. What is crop rotation? How does it help in preventing the soil to be carried
away?
7. Why is riprapping a good way to control soil erosion?
8. How forests help in controlling soil erosion?
What`s More 7
Activity 1 Determine how we can control or prevent soil erosion by
choosing your answer from the box

Canopy contour plowing crop rotation

Natural vegetation strip cropping Terracing

_________1. Allowing plants to grow naturally without human interference

_________2. Instead of plowing up and down, farmers should plow across the
slope to form ridges

_________3. Alternately planting different crops in strips.

_________4. Involves planting on terraces or steps built on slopes of

mountainside

What I Have Learned
10
6

 Erosion is the washing away of soil. Erosion control is the practice of

preventing or controlling wind or water erosion in agricultural land
development, river banks ,coastal areas, and construction.
 There are ways of preventing soil erosion like
 Natural vegetation
 Contour plowing
 Strip cropping
 Terracing
 Crop rotation
 Rprapping
 Forest Cannopy
What I Can Do
11
A. Observe the part of the school which
6 are prone to soil erosion
and draw the possible ways on how to reduce it.

B. Study each situation then answer the question that follows. Choose
the letter of the correct answer.
1. Your group is assign to sweep the ground area of your school. You
noticed that there are so much loose soil particles as you sweep. What
will you do to solve the problem?
a. Put water on the soil
b. Plant a carabao grass or bermuda grass on it.
c. Do not clean on the area assigned in your group.
2. Which is the best way to conserve soil in your community?
a. Join in a Tree Planting Project in your community
b. Cutting down trees
c. Do nothing, just let the barangay officials do their job.
12
Assessment 6

Write the letter of the correct answer.
