II. Summary
While on his way to school or even at home, the child meets a hawker,
gardener and a watchman. In this poem the child speaks of them. The hawker
sells the bangles, the gardener digs the soil, and the watchman keeps watch at
night. He feels envious of them because they all seem free while he is not.
Every day on his way to school, he sees a hawker selling bangles. He seems to
choose any road he likes. He has no fixed time even of returning home. The
child wishes that he were a hawker! From the gate of his house, he sees the
gardener digging the ground and soiling his clothes. No one asks him not to
dig ground or not to soil his clothes. He is so free that the child aspires to be a
gardener.
At night, through the open window of his room, he sees the watchman
moving up and down the lane. No one tells the watchman that it is night, and
he must go to bed. The child wishes to be a watchman.

brilliant oratory and persuasive skills. He was also famous for his honesty and had earned the title
“Honest Abe”.

IV.Seen passage:
Abe lived in Illinois. He was a smart lawyer. He helped people in all kinds of problems. But he had one
problem himself.
Many towns in Illinois had no lawyers and no judges. So every spring and fall, a judge and some lawyers
travelled from town to town. Abe went too…..
Abe was an impressive orator with a great sense of humour. People came from far and near to him. He

Ans:- The poet is not happy with the modern lifestyle that is full of stress and he thinks that man is too
busy to enjoy the bounties of the earth that are beautiful and calm.

Ans:- Man is blessed by the beauty of nature that makes his life happy. It removes the sadness and

Robin Becomes an Outlaw
I.Answer the following questions:-
Ans:- Robin Hood was an outlaw who lived in the green forests of sherwood near Nottingham. He
was a skillful archer.
Ans:- Robin was keen to win the shooting match to get a fine biw and a sheaf of arrows along with a
drum of ale as a prize and also to win a smile from Maid Marion.
Ans:- Maid Marion was a childhood playmate of Robin Hood and daughter of an Earl.
Ans:- When Robin said he was on his way to Nottingham to win the shooting match, the king’s
foresters thought he was a village boy who could hardly lift the bow. So they made fun of him.
Ans:- Robin aimed the deer which was almost a hundred yards away. The arrow flew straight to the
deer’s heart and the deer lay dead on the spot.
7. Why was the chief forester killed by Robin?
Ans:- The chief forester cunningly made Robin to kill King’s deer. Robin realised that he had been
tricked and the punishment for killing deer without permission was death. He had to escape before
which he let loose another arrow. It hit the chief forester’s neck and he fell on the ground.
8. Who is an outlaw?
Ans:- A person who is excluded from the benefits or protection of the law is an outlaw.
Ans:- People who had turned against the Sheriff and other noblemen to protect themselves and their
family became outlaws and joined Robin Hood.
Ans:- As Robin Hood killed king’s deer unknowingly, the chief forester said the above sentence.
