PLANT AND ANIMAL CELLS

for Science 7

Quarter 2 / Week 4
FOREWORD

This self – leaning kit will serve as a guide on how

to demonstrate an understanding of the different
organelles found in plant and animal cells. It will be your
aid as you learn new ideas and enrich your knowledge
on the basic features and importance of cells as the
basic structural and functional unit of all organisms.

In this learning kit, the students will gain knowledge

in the different organelles and its importance to the cell
as considered as the basic unit of life through reading
and doing the tasks given.

2
OBJECTIVE
In this Self – Learning Kit, students are expected to:
K: Compare the difference between plant
and animal cells based on their organelles.
S: Identify the organelles found in plant and animal
cells.
A: Recognize the importance of cell in the
preservation of human life.

LEARNING COMPTENCIES
1. Differentiate plant and animal cells according to
presence or absence of certain organelles (S7LT-IId-4)
2. Explain why the cell is considered the basic structural
and functional unit of all organisms (S7LT-IIe-5)

I. WHAT HAPPENED
Learning is fun!

You

PRE-ACTIVITIES / PRE-TEST:
Directions: For Numbers 1 and 2, answer with true or false. For the
rest of items, choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your
answers on your sheet.

1. The shape and structure of the cell is related to its function. Is

this True or False?
2. All parts found in the plant cells are also found in the animal
cells.
Is this True or false?
3. What type of a cell will you examine to find the lysosome?
a. prokaryotic c. plant
b. animal fungus
4. Which of the following structures is found in plant cells but not in
animal cells?
a. chloroplast c. ribosomes
b. cytoskeleton d. mitochondria
5. Which organelle makes food?

DISCUSSION:

All organisms, big or small consist of cells. Some organisms

are single celled, composed of only one cell. Others are

4
multicellular, possessing many cells that work together to form an
organism.

Most cells are so small that they can only be seen using the
microscope. It is a special equipment to make small objects like
cells look bigger. One kind of microscope used to study cells is
called a light microscope. Light microscopes use diffused or
artificial light to illuminate the object to be observed. From the
simplest to the most powerful and sophisticated microscopes,
scientists were able to gather information about cells. (LM for G7,

Within cells, there is an intricate
network of organelles that all have
unique functions. These organelles
allow the cell to function properly.

Cells are in a constant activity.

They are so small, yet busy building
and breaking down
macromolecules. They are at work
releasing energy from foods, and
then using that energy to make
needed cell parts. Together, the

cells function to make the body
operate like a factory.

Study very well these illustrations and their descriptions.
