Computation For VOC

Gasoline refilling stations emit various air pollutants such as volatile organic compounds, methane, and carbon monoxide through activities like fuel delivery, vehicle refueling, and storage tank breathing. Emissions can be estimated using emission factors that provide the mass of pollutants emitted per unit of throughput. For gasoline stations, these factors include amounts of VOCs emitted from different types of underground tank filling and breathing. The total VOC emissions and emission rates are calculated based on the facilities' tank characteristics and gasoline throughput.

ESTIMATED TYPES, CONCENTRATION, AND QUANTITIES OF EMISSIONS

Air and land pollution are associated with Gasoline Refilling Stations. One of the reasons why
Gasoline Refilling Stations are engaged in Air Pollution is due to the vaporization during gas
filling process. When gasoline evaporates, it gives off toxic fumes. Most prominent pollutants
present in the ambient air are the volatile organic compounds, methane, and carbon monoxide.
Aside from these three, there are other pollutants such as Nitrogen dioxide, Sulfur dioxide,
Hydrogen sulfide, Particute matters, and Methane.

Fuel delivery to refilling stations to UGTS, vehicle refueling, and storage tank breathing are the
following activities of Gasoline Refilling Station that are generally sources of air pollution.

Emission Estimates for Gasoline Refilling Station is identified by the equation:

Emissions=Emission Factor x Activity Level

Emission factors for gasoline fuel delivery to UGTS/outlets and storage tank breathing are
provided by EPA. No methodologies have been identified to replace the use of emission factors.

Table below shows the Emission Factors for Gasoline Refilling Station:

On the other hand, Activity Levels is defined on this context as the total gasoline distribution
which will be based on the total capacity of the installed UGTs.

EMISSION RATE AND ANNUAL MASS EMISSION

For the Emission Rate and Annual Mass Emission, the basis is that at 1 week, all gasoline stored
will be emptied/sold.

Table below shows the Emission Rate and Annual Mass Emission calculation:

Table 4: Emission Rate and Annual Mass Emission Calculation and Determination

Emission, Total VOCs Emission Rate Annual Mass Emission

39 lb/week 0.2321 lb/hr 1872 lb/year

*given the condition above

Calculation:
Emission Rate

Emission Rate, VOCs=39 lb/week x 1 week/7 days x 1 day/24 hour

Emission Rate, VOCs=0.2321 lb/hr

Annual Mass Emission

Annual Mass Emission, VOCs=39 lb/week x 4 weeks/1 month x 12months/year

Annual Mass Emission, VOCs=1872 lb/year
