ME 408 Automatic Control - MidSp2021 PDF

This midterm exam for an Automatic Control course consists of 4 questions regarding spring-mass-damper systems, transfer functions, and block diagram reduction. Question 1 asks students to (a) determine differential equations of motion, (b) find a transfer function, and (c) obtain a state-space model for a 2 mass spring-damper system. Question 2 involves (a) calculating the unit step response and (b) finding the steady-state value for a given transfer function. Question 3 asks students to perform block diagram reduction to find a transfer function for a position control system. Question 4 uses Mason's rule to find the transfer function for a given system diagram.

mass is attached with the fixed surface through a spring element of stiffness and
the two masses & are coupled together with the spring element having stiffness
and a damper having a damping coefficient . The force is applied to the mass .
