1.

The internet is a connection that links computers globally the provides information and
communication services globally.
It provides connection and communication with oteher organisations through email and
other social communication programmes such as Skype and Microsoft Teams. These facilities
allow for sending messages in text, voice and video form.
The internet has eliminated the need for peple to meet as they might be in different
geographical locations. In the previous era, people relied on face to face meetings, phone
calls and snail mail, which proved to be expensive at times, in monetary terms. Through the
use of the internet, meetings can be held online, cutting down on costs such as fuel to travel
to meet someone as well as the cost of traditional phone call compared to the cost of having
a meeting online.
The ineternet provides a form of security for sensitive or private information. In the event
that sensitive documents need to be sent directly to a person, the use of an email can be
very safe as the message is sent directly and received by the recipient directly. The use of
VPN’s also allows for the internet connectin in an organisation remain private. Traditional
methods such as snail mail or faxes have the disadvantage that the documents pass through
many people and may result in leaking of information.
As the internet is a global network, it allows for a wider variety of information. This can be
useful for company in terms o resource searching. Procurement departments will have a
wider pool of potential suppliers to select frm as they can access other company profiles and
details on the internet, both locally and globally. A simple search for a specific raw material
can yield results of multiple suppliers.
The ineternet also serves as a relevant tool in terms of marketing as it makes it easier for
advertisments to reach more people. Currently, the internet is available globally and
available in even most rural and some remote areas. With seslection of appropriate tools,
messages can be sent to reach the required target market. For example, a company that
wants to advertise its new product line, toothpaste, in Zimbabwe, it would be most
appropriate to use images and text messages broadcast on Whatsapp groups and Facebook
broadcasts as thes are the most widely used networking platforms in Zimbabwe and will
reach a wider audience compared to a billboard in a city as those in the rural areas will not
see the billboard however, they are more likely to see the message on facebook or on
Whatsapp.
Use of the internet has also brought convenince in the processes of business. Most banks
have introduced internet banking. In this era, this has eliminated the need for people to
withdraw money from the bank to make payments. Payments can now be made
electronically, transferring funds. This has elimitaed the risk of robbery when funds are in
transit. This is also time saving as payments are now almost instantaneous. Thereby redusing
the time lags that existed in the previous systems. In business, the term time is money is a
fact. Delays in sending and receiving of funds affect the processing of transactions and lead
in delays such as delay of receipt of raw material.
Through the emergence of social media, companies are now able to connect with customers.
These platforms are two way communication, that is the suppliers (company) can
communicate with customers as vice-versa. This allows for the company to get feedback
from the customers. Through this the company can get to know the immediate needs of
clients, where products need chage or upgareds to suit customer needs as well as getting to
know if the company is operating and giving the desired impression to the public. This can be
monitored by number of followers on a social media platform as wll as monitoring likes and
comments on posts made by the company.
Modernisation is a trend that is active globally and has been around even in the old ages.
Each company strives to keep with the times and have modern processes and machinery. As
the internet is global, news and updates spread faster. This might be through news and
business or professional journal pages. Throuh the internet the companies can enquire and
view modern changes. The internet thereby keeps companies abrast of changes in the world
that can help them keep up with changes as well as collaborate or link with other individuals
or specialists in their own research.

2. a) Web browser – this is the term used to describe an application program that is used to
access the internet. When one opens the browser they can then use the browser to make a
serach or access emails and websites. Examples of web browsers are Google Chrome,
Mozzilla Firefox, Internet explorer and Microsoft Edge,
b) URL – this stands for uniform resource locator. This is an address that identifies the
location of information or websites are located. For example, www.youtube.com is a URL the
will lead to the page where the youtube homepage is found. Once that is entered, the
computer will open the page for youtube.
c) Cc – This stands for Carbon copy and is a function on emails that allows for a copy of the
email to be received by whoever is stated in the Cc line. For example, when the human
recources manager sends the payroll information to the accountant, there is also need for
the General manager to have this information. The human resources therefore enters the
accountants email address on the to line and then also adds the general manager’s email
address to the Cc line so that he or she receives a copy.
D) Bcc – This stands for Blind carbon copy and a function that allows for a copy of the email
to be sent to a recipient as awell as another reciepint. Howvwer, the original recipient will
not be aware of the copy that has been sent to the Bcc recipient. Also Bcc recipinets will not
be aware of the other Bcc recipients. This is usually used whenthere is a large number of
reciepints. For example, a supplier would like to send a copy of the updated pricelist,
however would not like for the customrs to know each other. The email can be sent to
someone in the organisation and Bcc will be the list of the customers. This way, the
customers will not find out about each other.
3. Email is the sending of messages electronically through the use of the internet.
Five advantages of emails over traditional mailing systems are:
a. There is a guarantee that the message will reach its intended destination as long as
the email address is correct. With traditional mail, the message passs through a
number of stages and handles and is at risk of getting lost in the system or
destruction. For example the vehicle carrying the mail may be involved in an accident
and it might catch fire or be destroyed in the accident
b. Emails are faster compared to traditional mail. Traditional mail has to be taken to the
post office where it will be trabsportted to its destination which is a process that
could take from days to weeks. Email is however instantaneous. The minute it is sent,
it takes just a few seconds for the message to reach the recipinets inbox.
c. Emails is cheaper and can be considered to be a free tool. Once you have internet
connection, there is no additional cost in sending the mail. With traditional mail,
there is need to purchase paper, envelopes and stamps to send the message.
d. The convenience of referencing is high with emails. All information leading to a
certain topic can be discussed on a single email thread through the reply function.
This allows for easy access of information. With traditional mail, the mail would have
to be filed separately or individually depending on the topic and storage of files may
be come bulky, not forgetting that filing is tedious job on its own and chances are the
filing system may not be as efficient as required. There is a risk that some posted
information may get lost before it is filed or even when pulled out of the file fire
reference. With email, a copy remains on the interenet until it is deleted.
e. Emails allow for mass sending of messages. Through the CC function, a single
message can be sent to multiple recipinets. With traditional mail, especially if the
recepients are in different locations, multiple copies of the same document have to
be individually sent. This is time consuming, however email eliminats that.
