Climate change is affecting everyone's lives, whether they believe it or not. The
undeniable evidence shows that we are dooming our planet, and our future generations with the
amount of greenhouse gasses we are currently emitting. This rise in temperature is problematic
for everyone, increasing rates of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. My experience with climate
change is limited, but I still have experienced some changes due to climate change.
We moved to the US in 2016 coming from a relatively cooler climate than Utah’s. And I
remember when we first moved here in the summer I thought that it was hot, but I was also
coming from a country where 80 degrees fahrenheit was the average for the summer, so I did not
pay any extra attention to the temperature. However, over the years I have noticed winters with
Just this year (2022), Utah broke their record for the most 100 degree days in the year,
having at least 22 days with temperatures over 100 degrees (Bittan, 2022). Furthermore, in 2021
Utah tied the previous record from 1994 with 21 days reaching 100 degrees (Gereau, 2022). The
evidence shows that just in the past two years Utah has been increasing in temperature over the
summer, having their record high temp, and most days over 100 degrees happening one year
after the other. And just last year (2021) Utah also reached a record high temperature of 117
degrees fahrenheit in St. George (Bittan, 2022). And predictions for the future do not seem
promising either; with experts predicting temperatures will rise three degrees just by 2050.
In conclusion, even though I may not have experiences like others, I have noticed that
climate change is affecting my life. Climate change is affecting Utah temperatures with record
3
high temperatures just in the past year alone, while also experiencing more and more days over
