Mate means companion. Here the protagonist of the play tries to be friendly with everyone in the town. The town is the new place to him. But his effort becomes vain. He tries to change his attire which suits to the new atmosphere. But his character cannot be changed to adjust with the new people. The writer gives the image of the pathetic condition of the protagonist through this short story. When he embarrasses, we too embarrass with the protagonist. When he enjoys the nature and its view, we too enjoy along with him.
