PERSONAL STATEMENT

The dynamics of the human body, plants and animals have captured my
imaginations, since the day I got introduced to biological studies at school. This
prompted me to thread the direction of science in my secondary school, where
I learnt the basics of science –Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
Surprisingly, Biology got my interest among all, especially when I caught to
understand its relationship with almost everything that exist. With this passion,
coupled with hardwork and dedication, I won the best ‘’Biology students prize’’
in high school. Ultimately I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.
After my high school, and various branches of Biology like Genetics,
Parasitology, Cell biology, Ecology and Evolution increased my zeal.
In my penultimate year of undergraduate studies, I had my first
experience in transforming biology into real life practical results during my
industrial training at Technology Incubation Center, where we examined the
role of anti-parasite treatment in assessing the impact of parasites on
individuals and wildlife population. It was an amazing experiences finding out
such information for first time and having to go through rigorous researches,
including experiment designs, data analysis, result discussions, report writing
and presentations. This experiences enhanced my interpersonal skills,
including teamwork and the ability to multitask with an increased desire for
new findings.
My career goal is to implore biology and technological principles to
improve the health sector in Nigeria through research. Having done a
volunteering job at PAFA Technology, I have learned how people suffer from
food poisioning and malnutrition. This reignited my passion and desire to save
lives. With a biology background, and a bio-technological knowledge, I will
leverage this approach to improve quality control and assurance in Nigeria.
Studying biotechnology will enhance my theoretical knowledge,
understanding, and practical experience of modern molecular and system
biology approaches to emerging biotechnologies, thus providing me with the
skills at the fore front of quality control and assurance research.
To access quality education, first hand modern facilities from a wide
range of instrumentation, up-to-date analytical equipment, and intensive
laboratory experiments, studying in the UK will help me to develop the
necessary skill I need to achieve my career prospects, as well as my network
via collaborations with top industries and researchers, to enhances my
professional goals. Nottingham Trent University, having an international
reputation for research focused on developing new medical technologies, will
give me an opportunity to learn from the vast experience of the academic
team and external quest speakers from the industry and other schools. This
will give me an in-depth understanding of a variety of disciplines including
molecular, biochemical, cell biological and genetic techniques, among many
others.
I plan to return to my country to take up a research position at the
Standard Organisation of Nigeria, where I can use my knowledge and skills to
improve the Nigeria health sector.
