I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a) Visualize on how to plot irrational numbers on a number line.
b) Plots irrational numbers on a number line.
III. PROCEDURE
a.) Preliminary Activities (5 minutes)
i. Classroom Management
ii. Prayer
iii. Checking of Attendance
b.) Lesson Flow (55 minutes)
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY (Response)
A. Review (Optional) (5 minutes)
1. In your own opinion, define irrational numbers. (Students answers may vary)
2. Can we plot irrational numbers on a number line? Give some
examples.
3. How about square root? Can we plot those numbers?
1 2 3 4
Numbers:
𝝅 √𝟐 √𝟓
2.75 √𝟔 √𝟗
1. 𝝅 Answers:
2. 𝒆
3.
𝟓 1. I
𝟒 2. I
4. √𝟐 3. R
5. √𝟑 4. I
Name the two consecutive integers between which the given 5. I
square roots lie. 6. 2 and 3
6. √𝟕 7. 4 and 5
7. √𝟐𝟎 8. 3 and 4
8. √𝟏𝟎 9. 5 and 6
10. 3 and 4
9. √𝟐𝟗
10. √𝟏𝟐
Analysis (5 minutes)
1. What did you observe from the following set of numbers? (Students’ answers may vary)
2. How did you know if it is irrational or rational numbers?
3. How did you determine if the given square roots lies on that
numbers?
Abstraction (10 minutes)
But before that, from the activity we did “Plot Me”, how did you plot
those irrational numbers. Anyone?
Okay, you Ms. May. Uhm, sir for me po. We were able to plots those
numbers estimating the square root of a whole
number to the nearest hundredths.
Okay, thank you.
Ms. Dela Torre, where does square root of 8 falls to? I think po sir, it falls between square root of 4 and 9 or
between 2 and 3 po. And is closer to 3 po sir.
Who will agree on Ms. Dela Torre? (All students raise their hands)
It is correct.
Another example, where does square root of 41 falls to? Anyone? (Students raises hand)
Mr. Pielago, where do you think it falls to? Uhm sir pwede magbisaya?
You may. I think po sir naa siya sa tunga sa 6 and 7. And is
closer to 6 po sir.
Who will agree on Mr. Pielago? (Most students raise their hand)
Get ½ sheet of paper and answer the following questions in the screen.
Copy and Answer. Answers:
1. Dave’s and John’s house are √11km apart. How far is Dave’s 1. √11km. Their houses should be in
house and John’s house? Can you visualize and picture out how between of 3 and 4. And is closer to 3.
far is the distance between their houses?
2. Point A and point B is √31 away from each other. Point A and 2. Point A and B is in between 5 and 6, closer
point C is √51 away from each other. Point B and Point C is √24 to 5. Point A and C is in between 7 and 8,
away from each other. Where does each distance lie in the closer to 7. And point B and C is in
number line? between 4 and 5, closer to 5.
Assessment (5 minutes)
Direction: Determine where does the number falls in between and Answers:
where it is much closer to.
