D. Analysis - Ask the students these following
questions but they don’t need to
answer directly
- How did the rectangular
coordinates system/Cartesian
plane discover?
- How can we illustrate the
rectangular coordinate system?
- How can we plot specific
coordinates in the Cartesian
plane?
- How to connect rectangular
coordinate system in real-life?
- Can we integrate cartesian plane
to other subject areas?
All these questions can be answer
along the way during the discussion
because as John Dewey said that the
learners can learn through doing in his
Constructivism approach.

Therefore class, fasten your seatbelt

and let us learn all together regarding
the Rectangular Coordinate System or
the Cartesian plane.
Understood? Ma’am, yes ma’am
Very good!
E. Abstraction -First step, the teacher will tell the
story behind the rectangular
coordinate system or the Cartesian
Plane
-The coordinate system we commonly
use is called the Cartesian system,
after the French mathematician René
Descartes (1596-1650), who
developed it in the 17th century.
Legend has it that Descartes, who
liked to stay in bed until late, was
watching a fly on the ceiling from his
bed. He wondered how to best
describe the fly’s location and decided
that one of the corners of the ceiling
could be used as a reference point.

- After the introduction of the history of
the rectangular coordinate system,
discuss to the class the concept of

Coordinate System and Its Uses
(M8AL-Ie-1)
Cartesian plane (named after
the French mathematician Rene
Descartes, who formalized its use in
mathematics and was the Father of
Modern Mathematics).
The Rectangular Coordinate
System or Cartesian plane is
composed of two perpendicular
number lines which meet at the point
of origin (0, 0) and divide the plane
into four regions called quadrants.
The horizontal line is called the x-
axis, and the vertical line is called the
y-axis. An ordered pair of the form (x,
y) is the representation of a point on
the Cartesian plane. The first
coordinate of a point is called the x-
coordinate or abscissa and the
second coordinate is called the
ycoordinate or ordinate.

axis is the vertical line.
First, find the value of x and identify if
it is negative or positive. So, if the
value of x is 4 therefore, let’s find 4 in
positive side of the x-axis or the
abscissa and move 3 upwards to the
y-axis or ordinate because it is also
positive. The point (4,3) is located in
the Quadrant 1 because it is all
positive.

work as your Evaluation
Direction: In your group composed of
five members, you will be going to
locate the quadrants and plot the
points in a big Cartesian plane given
to you by your teacher. The game
score will be based on the correct
answer and the quickness of the
group to finish the task. You will be
given 10 seconds to finish the task in
its item. There is a corresponding
letter in its plotting of points. You need
to remember the sequence of the
letters given because afterwards you
will form a Bagobo term word from it
and the teacher will translate the
meaning of that certain word

For scoring
1st to finish with correct answer-
5points
2nd – 3 points
3rd- 2 points
4th-8th/wrong answer – 1point
So, here’s the question for our
groupwork

2. O- (10, 12)
3. P- (7, 11)
4. P - (-10, -16)
5. I – (2, -13)
6. Y- (-4, -3)
7. A- (-11, 8)

Note: Every member must show their

In the given Cartesian plane, you will
need to find the location of the places
here in Marilog District. You’ll need to
find the coordinates and afterwards
you will connect the points and see to
it that there’s an object formed. The
work will be graded according to the
rubrics given.

Plot the coordinates given:

2. Balite- (-5,5) Yes ma’am. We understand
3. Pamuhatan- (-11,11) the assignment
4. Maligaya – (-4,11)
