Two Major
types of
Software

1. Application Software
● This directs the computer to execute commands given by the user and may
be said to include any program that processes data for a user. Application
software thus includes word processors, spreadsheets, database
management, inventory and payroll programs, and many other “applications.”

● Examples of application software are Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, VLC


media player, Firefox or Google Chrome, accounting applications, photo editor,
mobile apps such as video games, Whatsapp, etc.

2. System Software
● System software controls a computer’s internal functioning, chiefly
through an operating system, and also controls such peripherals as
monitors, printers, and storage devices.

● Examples of system software include operating systems (OS) like


macOS, GNU/Linux, Android and Microsoft Windows.

Reflection: As a senior high school student, how do you
promote computer literacy in your community?"

Many generations of computers have now passed by. In this


current generation, we can witness how our computers in
general evolved. Computers also now play a vital role in our
daily lives. It became a necessity in a certain aspect of
living such as the online set-up now of education here in
our country due to pandemic. And as a senior high school
student, I will promote computer literacy in my community
in a way of using social media platforms wherein, I could be
able to share to people the importance of computer literacy
in our lives especially in this fifth generation of computer. I
will also emphasize the importance of critical thinking, self-
control, and self-awareness, hoping it will result in helping
people in managing their identity not just as a person but
also as a computer literate possible.
