1/ In today’s times internet is making it easy to study online from home. Some prefer
online courses to study and they think it is better. Others prefer classroom education.
Nowadays, online classes have become more popular and many students enrol in them. There
are, nonetheless, some learners who still prefer traditional classroom learning. In my opinion,
traditional courses and online courses both have their merits; even so, I feel that online courses
Online classes certainly have numerous advantages associated with them. To start with, they
are much cheaper than traditional courses. By enrolling in an online programme, poor students
who cannot afford expensive collage education can acquire valuable skills and earn degrees,
that too from the comfort of their home. Another advantage of online courses is their flexibility.
You can take them whenever you want and from wherever you are. By contrast, in order to do
a regular course, you have to be in a classroom at a specific time. If you cannot make it at that
time, you will miss the class. This is not the case with online learning. The ease of taking the
class at a time convenient to the learner has made it quite popular among working professionals
By contrast, traditional classroom learning also has its benefits. The most important among
them is the better interaction between the teacher and the student. A machine can only deliver
the lessons; it cannot figure out whether the student has understood the concepts. A teacher, on
the other hand, can easily figure out whether the student has understood something by simply
looking at their face. As a result, teachers can clear doubts then and there and this helps with
the progress of the student. Yet, the lack of flexibility and higher costs make traditional learning

@ielts4arab
To conclude, after analysing both sides of the argument it is not hard to see that traditional
learning and online learning have their merits and demerits. However, in my opinion, online
learning is better because it makes education accessible to almost everyone – even people who
2. Successful companies use advertising to make more sales. What can make an
advertisement very effective? Do you think this is a bad or a good thing for the society?
organizations throughout the globe take the help of adverts in order to enhance their sales.
Advertising can be made more impactful by adopting different strategies, which are discussed
below. Having said that, I believe that it has deleterious impacts on the community.
To begin with, advertisements can be made more impressive by following these approaches.
The chief one is that these should be creative and entertaining, because people tend to like new
ideas and watch entertaining ads. Another persuasive method is to hire famous celebrities to
promote products. This is mainly because these prominent people are adored by millions of
followers who try to imitate their lifestyle; as a result, their fans will most likely buy the
residents aware of the newly launched items, it promotes the use and throw culture. As a result,
individuals are spending their life savings recklessly to buy unnecessary items. Apart from this,
commercials mainly target children as / because they are more impressionable than adults.
After watching these ads, kids force their parents to buy those useless products. Since many
families are not well-off, this compulsive urge to own the latest products can land them in the
debt trap. Hence it can be said that advertisements are detrimental for the society.

while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Some people prefer to have a lavish wedding and they do not mind spending a lot of money on
it. Others opine that such celebrations are a waste of money. I agree with this view. In my
opinion, one can save this money and utilise it for better purposes.
An elaborate / expensive wedding has many benefits. For example, it creates memories that the
couple can remember for their life. It is also an opportunity for young people to celebrate their
happiness with their friends and family. Consequently, many people spend too much money
on this occasion to make it memorable and to show off their wealth and status. Moreover, such
On the flip side, a big wedding can also waste a lot more money. Couples can achieve better
things in their life with this money. For example, they can invest it for their children’s
education. There are some people who take loans to celebrate their marriage lavishly. They
have to grapple with the debt for years to come and that will take away all the joy in their life.
Another disadvantage of lavish weddings is that they spur competition. When someone holds
an extravagant wedding celebration for themselves or their children, their friends and
neighbours will feel compelled to do so. This mentality will eventually lead to a lot of problems
in the society.
To conclude, although many people believe that spending a lot of money for marriages would
bring happiness and contentment, I personally think that such occasions are a waste of money.
Saving this money for use in the future is a much better idea.

show them that we care. Others think that there are better ways to show affection to them.
Undoubtedly, there are different ways of showing our love to the people around us. Although
some people think that giving gifts and presents is a better way to show our affection for our
near and dear ones, others opine that there are other effective methods to show that we care
and I agree with this. In this essay I shall discuss the different views of the people and also give
Some people think that it is imperative to give gifts and presents to friends and family to show
the affection. This is because these things are tangible which persistently reminds them that
there is someone who cares for them. To illustrate, people living overseas usually give
ornaments and other expensive items to family members to show their love. The argument is
that since they are miles apart nothing can prove their love as well as these gifts.
Conversely, there are various ways other than gifting to show love. For example, in some
Indian families the daughter-in-law shows her caring nature by serving her in-laws and looking
after them. Likewise, the son-in-law may provide for his wife’s parents. As a result, the family
bonding increases and a healthy relationship is built. Such kind and selfless deeds create joy in
thefamily.
In my opinion, expensive items are not always necessary to reveal the affection. The other
methods such as, spending precious time with dear ones and taking care of them physically and
In conclusion, though gifts sometimes serve as a means to show our caring nature especially in

and family and assisting them whenever they need help can be a better way to show that we
care.
5/The media is increasing interest in famous people who have ordinary backgrounds.
Why do you think people are interested in the lives of famous people? Do you think this
is a good thing?
We are living in the age of information explosion. There are 24 hour news and entertainment
channels. And then there is the internet where news breaks every second. The media needs
news. Television channels need to fill their timeslots. Journalists have to fill reams of
newsprint. That is why the media focuses on the private lives of famous people. Actors, models
and sports personalities are all famous for their larger than life personas. People are curious
about their private lives. They want to know what celebrities eat, drink and wear. Media
Generally speaking, there is a symbiotic association between media and celebrities. Media
keeps them in the news and celebrities make great fodder for news and gossip. Sometimes,
however, media exploits famous people for increasing their circulation and viewership.
Paparazzi follow celebrities often with the objective of catching in embarrassing situations.
Constant media scrutiny has even spoiled the careers of several promising young men and
women.
There is yet another downside to this obsession. When media highlights the lives of the rich
and the famous, they are sending out wrong messages to the public, especially teens. Life isn’t
all about red carpets, shopping or partying. There is more to it. Celebrity-obsessed fans often
forget this.
To conclude, if media pays too much attention to the lives of actors and models, it is because
of the public interest in them. Generally speaking, this benefits all the parties involved in it.
6
@ielts4arab
The media increases its reach; celebrities get the attention they need and the public gets their
dose of gossip. However, this interest does not serve the society in any way. It merely creates
6/ More and more parents are allowing their children to play on computers and tablets
as they think that children should learn technology skills. Do the advantages of this
In the past few years, modern technology has become accessible to society at large. More and
more parents are relying on computers and laptops to make their children learn new things. In
this essay, I will discuss both merits and demerits of using technology for learning.
Let’s begin by looking at the advantages of using tablets and smartphones. The main positive
is that it supports social interaction and enhances communication skills. In other words,
children can easily connect with their family and friends. Moreover, due to their advanced
features, compact devices like mobile phones have become more than just a calling device.
They can be used for entertainment and learning as well. Children get the chance to learn
Turning to the other side of the argument, excessive use of electronic devices makes children
devoid of physical activity. It not only hampers their personal growth but also physical
development. Another issue is that, children prefer isolation and become addicted to these
Considering both the sides, we can conclude that balance is the key. Although, smartphones
and tablets have multiple benefits, reading and other physical exercises are also necessary for
children’s overall development. I believe, the educational benefits of using electronic devices

7/ People are living in a ‘throwaway society’, using things for a short time and then
throwing them away. What are the causes of this? What problems does it lead to?
Nowadays, it is increasingly common for people to buy new things frequently. Unfortunately,
this also encourages them to throw away old but usable things. This trend has a negative effect
on the environment.
People are inclined to buy new things mainly because of the irresistible advertisements.
Manufacturers promote their new products rigorously and capitalize on the needs and wants of
people. For instance, every year companies launch a new model of smart phones. Even though
it would have the same functionality as the previous model, people are attracted by the
promotions and buy it. Another reason for this compulsive urge to buy is the busy lifestyle of
people. Nobody has time to fix things that have stopped working. Actually, buying new stuff
Admittedly, this trend has become a serious threat to our environment. Excessive production
of goods leads to the depletion of natural resources. For instance, many trees are cut down to
produce various household items. If people wanted to replace their furniture more frequently,
it would result in destruction of forests. In addition, when products are thrown away, they
produce more garbage. Many consumer goods have non-recyclable parts that will remain in
the soil forever. Thus by throwing away goods we are unwittingly causing damage to the
environment.
To conclude, the throwaway culture is a reflection of our materialistic mentality. We have little
regard for nature or natural resources. However, considering the destruction it would cause to
the environment, this practice needs to be curtailed / discouraged. The government should
8
@ielts4arab
launch campaigns to create awareness about the dangers of throwing away goods and also enact
8/ Nowadays children mostly spend time playing computer games rather than sports.
Physical activity plays an important role in the physical and psychological development of
children during the initial years of their life. However, urbanization and modernization have
replaced outdoor games with indoor games and thus increased the number of couch potatoes
among the current generation. In my view this is a negative development that affects the
Firstly, urbanization eliminated public playgrounds from cities and towns. Thanks to the
development of all those housing complexes and shopping centres the cities have become more
congested than ever leaving no room for little ones to enjoy outdoor games like cricket or
football. Since playing such sports in narrow streets cause disturbance to apartment dwellers
The security of children has also become a cause for concern. Parents are becoming wary of
letting their children play outside. So, to keep them engaged indoors they equip their children
with video games, computers and smart phones. As a result, children are getting detached from
the benefits of playing outside. This, unfortunately, affects their physical and intellectual
development. Sitting in front of a computer or gaming console for long hours can affect the
Studies have shown that physical activity helps the development of cognitive abilities like
decision-making and problem-solving. Sports and games also teach children crucial life skills
such as team spirit and the ability to take success and failure alike. When children do not engage
9
@ielts4arab
To conclude, video games might keep children engaged for hours on end, but they do not help
the overall development of children. So I strongly believe that spending too much time on
playing computer games can be very harmful for the upcoming generation.
9/ Scientists agree that many people eat too much junk food and it is damaging their
health. Some people think that this problem can be solved by educating people, while
others believe that education will not work. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Excessive consumption of fatty foods leads to a lot of health problems. Some people believe
that creating awareness about the health consequences of junk food is the solution to this
problem. Others, however, feel that other measures are required to tackle this issue. In my
opinion, creating awareness is important but that alone will not work.
Most people lead a hectic life these days. They do not have the time or energy to cook proper
meals. As a result, they subsist on fast food. Many of them are actually aware of the ill effects
of fast food; yet they consume it because they prefer convenience to health. Such people will
not stop eating junk foods even if the government launches awareness campaigns against such
foods. There are also some people who consume fast food because they are ignorant of the
consequences of fast food consumption. Awareness campaigns will work best amongst them.
As we have seen, in many cases lack of awareness is not the factor that encourages the
consumption of fast foods. Therefore other actions are also required to deal with this problem.
People who eat fast food in spite of knowing that it is unhealthy may stop eating it if the
government makes it unaffordable by increasing taxes on it. Even this measure will not deter
wealthy people from consuming fast foods. Perhaps a better solution is to make healthy food
more affordable and accessible. The government can perhaps open eateries that serve healthy
food at reasonable prices. In Tamil Nadu, for example, there are state funded canteens that
10
@ielts4arab
serve healthy foods for a nominal price. When healthy options are available conveniently at
To conclude, creating awareness about the harmful effects of fast foods is certainly important
but it will not solve the problem. In addition to creating awareness, the government has to take
measures that make fast foods unaffordable and healthy foods more accessible.
10/ The mass media, including television, radio and newspapers, have great influence in
n this day and age, mass media have become an epidemic all around the world. So that, people
in different ages follow and use them, such as television, newspaper and the internet have
become more popular among individuals. On the contemporary worlds, whether the influence
of mass media in shaping people's life is a controversial issue. One group of people believes
that media have no effects on people's lifestyle, while others are the advocate of many powerful
influences of mass media in our lives. I personally agree with the latter group, because of two
First group claims that mass media cannot have an effect on our decisions and believes; since
it has been taken for granted. Of course, they are right to some extent, but I think they
First of all, mass media have a profound impact on cultures. It causes to eliminate the
boundaries of cultures among people and creates globalisation. The globalisation is a good
instance to depict the effect of mass media because individuals now can see what is happening
in other countries or how they are dressed and how their culture is different. As a result, they

Secondly, mass media are a source of information. It informed people about daily events or
new discoveries. This information sometimes is used to change people's opinion. For example,
in a presidential election, the fan of different candidates advertise in media like, television or
the internet for them, and absorb attention to elect any person that they want.
In conclusion, as I mentioned above, the influence of mass media is undeniable, and it can
11/ Many famous athletes advertise different products. What are the advantages and
disadvantages of it?
In the present age, a number of well-known players are doing different types of product
advertisements. In this essay, we will throw some light on the advantages and disadvantages
of this trend.
Let’s begin by looking into the merits of endorsements by sportspersons. Firstly, players can
promote certain products in a better way because they themselves use some of these items in
their line of work. Sachin Tendulkar, for example, does the advertisement of an energy drink
which he consumes while playing the game. Because of this reason, his endorsement of the
product sounds genuine. Secondly, players can make money by doing various types of
players who work for them. This is a great opportunity for them to convert their popularity and
On the other hand, there are some downsides to these celebrity endorsements. Primarily, this
could take away the players’ focus from the game. To elucidate, last year, Virat Kohli, a
renowned Indian cricketer, was not able to perform as expected in Asian Cup. Some people
assert that this happened because he was featured in myriads of advertisements at that time
12
@ielts4arab
which took his concentration away from the match. Furthermore, athletes could become money
minded if they do a lot of advertisement campaigns. The result of this could be devastating for
the players and ruin their game play. What’s more, sometimes players endorse poor quality
products just because they are offered truckloads of money. In my opinion, this is a misuse of
In conclusion, there is no doubt that popular players are advertising several products and this
phenomenon has some obvious drawbacks and benefits which are given in the above
paragraphs. All in all, it is up to the players to decide whether or not they should do these types
of advertisements.
12/ Many people find it difficult to balance their responsibilities at home and in the
workplace. What, in your opinion, is the reason for this? How can this be balanced?
One of the most conspicuous trends in the 21st century is the difficulty of keeping a life-work
balance. Some people find it hard to manage their time to be successful and fully responsible
at their workplace and at the same time spend quality time with their families. This is
difficult not to be competitive at work. Many workers are trying to survive and be successful
and this forces them to spend more than eight hours per day at work. For example, an
accountant not only uses to manage his responsibilities and duties but also does additional
work. To manage that it is possible to limit employee’s responsibilities or share them with
others.
The next point that needs to be taken into consideration is that people should manage their
responsibilities at home like washing, cleaning, ironing and also, communicate with other
13
@ielts4arab
family members. To be able to do so, they must manage to not be overtired from their
responsibilities at work. In this case, they will be able to spend quality time with their
The competition at a workplace, increased population and our demand to do best in every
sector is the main reason we are not being able to balance in our professional and personal
life. The decreased family bonding and less time for socialising are two main reasons for this
heinous trend. To tackle this we need to spend more time with our family members and
contribute to household works. More time should be reserved for the dear and near one than
spending those times in electronic devices. The value of family bonding should be taught
from the early childhood and the parents should make examples through their works to teach
To sum up, there are a lot of people who cannot successfully manage their responsibilities
and keep work-home balance. I highly recommend people to limit their responsibilities or
share them among other people or organisations as well as plan a timetable of time spend at
13/ Children and teenagers are committing more and more crimes in many countries.
Why is this happening? How can we stop or at least reduce youth crime?
It is true that juvenile delinquency has been on the increase in some countries these days.
Reasons for this worrying trend vary and there are a range of possible punishments that could
be applied.
14
@ielts4arab
To begin with, the upsurge in crimes committed by children and teenagers results from several
reasons. Firstly, an underlying cause is the recent economic recession which forces today’s
parents struggle harder to make ends meet. They consequently find themselves having less or
even no time to look after their children. This plight may result in these vulnerable individuals
associating with bad peers to find other source of care and thus, children are gradually led
astray. Secondly, social media also play a part. In fact, the Internet, televisions have been
bombarding children and teenagers with increasing amounts of violence, nudity, hedonistic
lifestyles and so on. This bombardment could make them think that drug abuse, sexual
harassment, fraud for example, are socially accepted. Therefore, they unconsciously commit
more crimes.
Punishments for young criminals are various. Petty crime offenders should be forced to
perform community service or participate in vocational schools specifically for criminals. The
length of punishments can be reduced if they show positive changes in attitude. These two
options not only create more social values but also offer them a chance of turning over a new
leaf. After being released, young offenders must be kept under observation for a period of time.
As for more serious crimes like mass murder, perpetrators must be sentenced to life
imprisonment. This will definitely ensure a safe environment for citizens, an important factor
In conclusion, there are many reasons behind the increase in juvenile crime rates and the above-
14/ Some people think that children should learn to paint or draw at school. Others
believe it is just a waste of time. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
It is undoubtedly true that nowadays a proper curriculum planning has become a vital part of
education. Many people feel that it is important for the students to be taught drawing in school.
15
@ielts4arab
In my personal opinion, I feel that a student’s time can be utilized much more effectively than
On the one hand, drawing or painting helps to enhance the creativity in children. This in turn
helps them to build their imagination and can also broaden their horizon or way of thinking. It
helps them to become better individuals in life. Also, being engaged in such an activity helps
On the other hand, there are certain circumstances wherein the idea of including art in
curriculum will not be welcomed by many pupils and parents. For instance, a child who is more
interested in playing sports will feel that it is a waste of time to sit and draw. Instead it would
be more rewarding if he invests his time in learning or practicing sports rather than drawing.
Furthermore, the basic motive of many parents to send their children to school is for studying
rather than co-curricular activities and hence they would want the school to focus on academics
as against drawing. Hence, I feel that it will not be a good idea to teach drawing at schools
because there are many classes outside schools which can be utilized for this purpose if at all
In conclusion, I feel that it should not be made mandatory by schools to teach drawing, however
it can be offered as an optional subject in the curriculum. This will enable the students to make
15/ Some people think that the only way to relax is rest or sleep, while others say people
need to do exercise or sport to relax. Discuss both view points and give your own opinion.
Nowadays people work around the clock; as a result, they become tired by the end of the day.
Some people opine that taking rest and having a sound sleep is the best way to relax our body
and mind. However, others believe that doing some workout and playing sports is a better way.
I agree with the former view, and I will discuss both sides in the forthcoming paragraphs.
16
@ielts4arab
To begin with, a power nap is a better way to relax our body. Firstly, sleeping helps our body
to rejuvenate our body cells. When a person is sleeping his body goes into the self-repair mode,
and takes energy from the consumed food. Consequently, people feel fresh when they wake
up.
Secondly, it is a well-known fact that the efficiency of a person increases when he takes naps
to relax. For example, according to the World Health Organization, people who take regular
sleep are more efficient and have better problem-solving skills than the people who work
continuously. Thus, it is evident that power naps can enhance the capabilities of the individuals.
On the other hand, doing physical exercise for relaxation can increase the blood flow in the
body which helps in reducing daily work-life stress. As a result, people will feel relaxed and
free from all the tensions. Therefore, some people believe that it is a better way to relax. Yet,
this is not something people can or want to do when they are tired after working in the office
To conclude, although, doing physical work-out can be a stress-buster for humans, I believe
that taking regular sleep is the best way to relax in the sense that it repairs body cells and
16/ In some countries children have very strict rules of behaviour, in other countries,
they are allowed to do almost anything they want. To what extent should children have
to follow rules?
People in different countries follow and adopt different rules in dealing with their children’s
behaviour. There are no laws for this made by any country’s government but this depends on
The children who are the future of this world should be taught to follow a set of rules so that
17
@ielts4arab
they are aware what is good and what will be bad for them. The rules that are meant for their
good should be followed in true spirit e.g. how to behave with parents, elders, teachers,
friends, siblings etc. as these are the manners that will help them to achieve success and they
will ultimately transfer this to their children. These practices are passed and transferred from
generations to generations so that the society is developed morally & ethically. Ethical and
moral values are very important for any society and without these, a society cannot nourish
and go forward.
Now if children don’t follow the rules the society it cannot run properly. Anxiousness and
anxiety will rule and people will be frustrated as their children instead of following rules are
disobeying them. This will reflect in lives of people also and their life will be disturbed. I
have seen families whose life has been destroyed as their children didn’t listen to them and
revolted against their parents /elders. In the most developed nations children in the name of
freedom of expression do not listen to their parents and leave them and ultimately the whole
family suffers. But the children should have the right to ask about any rule they think is not
correct and clarification should be provided to them so that they can accept the rule from
their heart.
The children should follow in true spirit the rules and regulation made by the society,
parents, elders etc. Children don’t have enough awareness to decide about the right and
wrong and which rules will help them and which rule if not followed will get them in trouble.
The society should explain the children the pro and cons of rules so that children don’t
consider the rules as weight on their shoulders and in fact feel proud when they are following
the rules.

17/ In many countries day by day rubbish (garbage) is increasing. Why is it happening?
These days the increasing volume of trash is a major concern in many countries around the
world. This problem has arisen due to various reasons which I will discuss in the subsequent
To begin with, there are many factors responsible for the increasing production of rubbish and
the predominant one is the increase in population. Nations around the globe have been
grappling with the problem of population explosion for more than a decade. Many people buy
products they do not need and eventually they end in up landfills producing garbage at an
alarming rate. Moreover, non-biodegradable products are a serious threat which leads to the
production of excessive waste. For instance, it is scientifically proven that material like plastic
does not decompose in the environment for several hundred thousand years.
Appropriate measures need to be taken to deal with this alarming threat. Primarily, the
government should impose strict rules and regulations to replace plastic with a biodegradable
materials. In addition, new technology should be introduced for the safe disposal of waste
material like garbage. For example, many countries in Europe now use rubbish to build roads
by converting plastic to adhesive substance. This new technology should be imported so that
To recapitulate, there is no denying the fact that people all over the world are producing rubbish
at an alarming rate. In order to deal with this issue, the government should enact laws that ban
or limit the use of plastic. It should also encourage the use of biodegradable products.

18/ Some people see shopping as a leisure activity mostly for young adults, while others
disagree. Do you think this has a positive or negative effect on economic development?
Thanks to growing consumerism, there is a massive rise in the number of people who shop for
fun and pleasure. This trend is galloping because of the intensive marketing techniques
employed by companies and online shopping platforms such as ecommerce websites and
To embark on, there are some reasons why shopping activities have increased dramatically in
recent times. First and foremost, business houses are using data science techniques to analyze
the human psychology and their likes and dislikes. For example, Levis outlets request their
customers to complete a questionnaire about their experience and suggestions. Such strategies
make the customers feel that the company values their opinion and feedback. Additionally,
companies hire celebrities to endorse their products. Shopping has also become easier these
days thanks to the internet. People can now shop online using their computer or smart phone.
There are umpteen web applications available which offer free home delivery and easy
exchange and easy return facility. All of these factors encourage people to buy more and more.
This sharp increase in shopping trend has benefitted both the individual and the society in many
ways. First, shopping can be a therapeutic experience. It is a great stress buster for many busy
people. Secondly, the increased shopping activity will boost the economy and companies will
produce better products at low prices to meet the needs of consumers. This will definitely create
employment opportunities.
To conclude, shopping activity has increased because companies are using modern
technologies and platforms to sell their products. This trend has affected the society and
individuals positively in terms of self-satisfaction and better product selection for individuals

and economical development for the society. This trend has a positive impact on both the
individuals and the society. It benefits the society by increasing economic activity and benefits
19/ Some people think that the main factors influencing a child’s development these days
are things such as television, friends, and music. Others believe that the family still
remains more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Raising children into mature and successful adults is a big responsibility and it has become
even more challenging today than in the past. Parents and siblings used to be the first and
foremost influence on a child’s development, but the rapid expansion of technology and
cultural changes have significantly impacted the way in which a child will develop. However,
I still firmly believe that family holds greater power to affect a child’s behaviour in her
development stages due to the fact that it is the family that the child is going to spend more of
Studies have shown that children learn by seeing and observing what the adults around them
do. Since the father and the mother are the first point of contact for a child, they will learn a
great deal from them in early years. As the child grows older, they might be introduced to
new sources of information. For example, they could be influenced by their friends or the
movies they watch. Even then, family will be the greatest influence on the child because
parents can monitor the friend circle of the child and minimize the unwanted impact. They
can also decide what programmes the child should watch on television or which songs they
To conclude, a child may be influenced by people and factors outside of their home; even so,
family will be the biggest influence on them because parents can control the external influences
to a great extent.

it would be better for the environment and economy if people only ate the local food
Food is crucial for our survival. These days, many consumers eat food that has traveled
thousands of miles away from their producers. Some people opine that it will be good for the
environment if people only eat locally produced food. I agree with this view to a certain extent.
In my opinion, consumption of local food will create jobs in the local economy and help the
environment, but if people eat only locally produced food, they will have fewer choices.
Environmental problems are a highly debated topic these days. Huge amounts of fossil fuels
have to be burned to transport food to distant places. This causes considerable damage to the
environment. There will be a massive reduction in the consumption of oil if people start
preferring locally grown food and hence it is good for the planet. Another argument in favour
of eating locally produced food is its nutrient value. Locally grown food is nutritious because
it is free of preservatives. Also, locally grown fruits and vegetables are plucked when they
ripen and this retains their nutritional content. By contrast, when they are transported from a
distant place, they are plucked when they are still raw and then ripened with the help of
chemicals. Regular consumption of such food items will lead to health problems in people.
Even so, in my opinion, eating locally produced food alone is not a viable option because there
is a limit to the kind of food that can be grown in each place. For example, fruits like apples
and grapes can only be grown in cold climates. Likewise, some fruits and vegetables only grow
in hot climates. There are also many regions that are not suitable for cultivation. If people eat
only what is available in their region, they choices will be limited. Hence, in my opinion,
22
@ielts4arab
locally grown food should be given preference. However, it should not be the only food
available to people.
To conclude, if people give preference to the local produce, it will certainly benefit their health,
the environment and the local economy. Even so, in my opinion, eating locally cultivated food
alone is not a viable option because it will seriously limit the food choices people have.
21/ Some people argue that the fittest, strongest individuals and teams can achieve the
greatest success in sports. But other people think that success is as much related to mental
Victory means everything in the world of professional sports players: money, status and
reputation. So it is not surprising that athletes, coaches and team leaders are eager for the keys
to win. Generally speaking, physical factors and mental attitude are both necessary for
Certainly, physical factors are essential for victory. Empirical studies show that top athletes
usually have better sense of balance and remarkable coordination, which together facilitate
complicated movements in sports. In the sports that require physical strength, such as dashes
and marathon, the fittest and strongest individuals are advantageous, because more body
muscle and more oxygen in their artery blood enable them speed and endurance. This is also
true for team competitions such as soccer and basketball, thought cooperation among team
Nevertheless, in the highest level professional competitions such as the Olympic Games and
FIFA World Cup, where most of the competitors are both talented and well-trained, mental
attitude can significantly affect the outcome of the competition. A marathon runner must have
great fortitude to complete such a long-distance race. Stress management help athletes stay

calm and continue to compete in the game after making a mistake, instead of letting fear
There is no single factor that promises ultimate success in sports; sometimes even luck counts.
But some determinants have been identified. Medals tend to be granted to the individuals and
teams that are both physically and mentally strong. They must have great talent in sports,
outstanding physical strength, and incredible perseverance in year-after-year strict training and
diet.
22/ Some people believe it is important to give gifts and presents to friends and family to
show that we care about them. Others think that there are better ways to show affection
to them. Discuss both the views and give your own opinion.
Undoubtedly, there are different ways of showing our love to the people around us. Although
some people think that giving gifts and presents is a better way to show our affection for our
near and dear ones, others opine that there are other effective methods to show that we care

For example, in some
Indian families the daughter-in-law shows her caring nature by serving her in-laws and
looking after them. Likewise, the son-in-law may provide for his wife’s parents. As a result,

the family bonding increases and a healthy relationship is built. Such kind and selfless deeds
In my opinion, expensive items are not always necessary to reveal the affection. The other

In conclusion, though gifts sometimes serve as a means to show our caring nature especially in
long distance relationships these things are short lived; instead sharing quality time with friends
and family and assisting them whenever they need help can be a better way to show that we
care.
23/ Many people believe that spending a lot of money on weddings is fine, while others
completely disagree. Discuss both views and give your own opinion and examples.
According to some people spending a lot of money on marriage parties is a must. Others insist
that lavish celebrations are a waste of money and resources. Both views will be discussed in
this essay; however, in my opinion, it does not make much sense to spend a lot of money on
celebrations.
Celebrations make our lives more interesting. Also, lavish parties are an opportunity to show
off our wealth. Actually, this is the reason many people choose to spend inordinate amounts of
money on weddings. They believe that throwing a lavish wedding party will easily elevate their
social standing. My uncle, for example, makes it a point to celebrate the weddings of his
children in a lavish manner. He believes that those parties will earn him the respect of his
On the other hand, there is a downside to throwing large wedding parties. Oftentimes families
borrow money to celebrate the wedding of their son or daughter in a grand style. They may
have seen their neighbour hold an expensive party on the occasion of his daughter’s marriage.
25
@ielts4arab
Now, they feel compelled to have an even bigger party. This is not exactly a problem if they
can afford it but that is not always the case. Many families fall into the debt trap in their
desperation to hold a grand wedding that their friends will remember for good. Also, large
parties often lead to the wastage of enormous amounts of foods and beverages.
Personally, I believe that instead of throwing ridiculously expensive parties, people should
organize more intimate and simpler celebrations. Wedding celebrations are an opportunity to
share our joy with our friends and relatives and small parties serve the purpose very well.
Actually, spending large amounts on parties is a sign of vanity. And if this money is borrowed
it is nothing but stupidity. Instead, people who truly want an unforgettable wedding should
donate a sum of money to the disadvantaged sections of the society on this occasion. This way
they can ensure that their celebrations bring joy to a lot of people who need it desperately.
To conclude, wedding celebrations are important because in most people’s lives they occur
celebrations. Instead, people who have excess money should consider donating some to the

subways)? Why? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from
People have argued about how the government should utilise their budgets on transportation
areas. Some people think that the government should spend more money on developing
streets and highways, while others believe that improving public transportations is the most

important one. The following essay will discuss in details about it, but I do believe that both
On the one hand, a group of people think that the government should focus on improving
their street, road and highway facilities. They believe that public accesses are vital for the
economic development of the respective country. Without the existence of qualified roads
and highways, it will be difficult for industries to grow, as there will be some obstacles for
the supply of raw materials and deliveries of goods. Consequently, it will impact on the
On the other hand, other people think governments should spend more budgets on improving
and maintaining public transportation such as buses, trains, aeroplanes and ferries. They
believe that if the government could improve the quality of these mass transportation
facilities, it will reduce traffic and air pollution problems. As public transportations become
more convenient and safe, more people will use them, and it will gradually reduce the
number of private vehicle users. As a consequent, it will reduce traffic congestion and reduce
In conclusion, I personally believe that the government's spending on public accesses and
transportations are both essentials. And it becomes the government's task to allocate those
budgets proportionately for both areas since we could not focus on one area and abandoned
the other. It would be useless for a country to have good public transportations, without the
25/ Some people believe that manufacturers should be responsible for reducing the large
amounts of packaging they use. Others say consumers should avoid buying heavily
27
@ielts4arab
packaged items. Discuss both views and state your opinion. Give reasons for your answer
This is a true fact to consider that over packaging has become a trend of the modern competitive
market. Considering this, there are some analysts who hold an opinion that consumers should
avoid over packed products while others consider consumers should not avoid over packed
products. This essay will give assertion on both sides of the contention before deducing a
reasonable conclusion.
There are reasonable arguments in favour of over packaging from the manufacturer. They try
options in the market but some of them concern style or looks of packaging while deciding to
buy a product. Attractive packaging could be a significant factor for selling more. It is
generally seen that product producers try to attract their customers in many ways by over
packaging. For example, in the case of some biscuit packs, we can see that the biscuits are
placed in the small plastic tray and covered with multiple layers of packets. In terms of
keeping these sorts of products intact and fresh, it is sometimes necessary to use over
packing. In these cases, the manufacturer would show reasons that they are over packing
products for the sake of customers’ benefit. From this regards, it seems logical that the
customer should make an informed decision whether or not to buy products that use over
packing.
In spite of views discussed above regarding of over packaging, there are some groups who
are in favour of avoiding over packed products and say that the manufacturers are deceiving
customers by over packing their products. The cost of packaging and their detrimental effects
on our environment could be substantial reasons behind of the opponents’ viewpoint. All the
packaging costs are directly being added to the consumers and they have to spend more than

@ielts4arab
the value of products. A few real products are often presented in a large container and packet
and the customers are being deceived by the packet sized. Moreover, the manufacturers often
use non-disposable wrappers and packets which add bad effects to the environmental.
In the end, undoubtedly, extra packaging of products has a detrimental effect on the society;
however, as far as I am concern consumers should avoid over-packaging products to solve the
negative effects it possessed to them and to the environment. If customers start avoiding such
unnecessary over packing of products, manufacturers would be bound to change the way they
26/ In many places, new homes are needed, but the only space available for building them
is in the countryside. Some people believe it is more important to protect the countryside
and not build new homes there. What is your opinion about this?
Nowadays, many hold the view that because of the land shortage in metropolises, more
residential buildings should be constructed in the countryside. Others insist that protecting the
countryside from excessive exploitation is even more important. In this essay, I will examine
To begin with, there is no doubt that due to the growth of city population and the migration of
rural people into urban areas, metropolises such as Beijing and Shanghai are facing the
situation of residential land scarcity. In addition, the high demand for residential buildings
somehow contributes to the rise of housing price in big cities. Therefore, developing the
countryside seems to be urgent. Not only can it provide people with more affordable housing,
but the rural area can also benefit from the development of better infrastructure.
On the other hand, the importance of maintaining farmland / agricultural land in the countryside
cannot be neglected. If excessive amount of arable land is used for residential purposes, there
29
@ielts4arab
will be a severely negative impact on food production and supply. Moreover, farmers could be
deprived of the land they live upon and this may cause social instability in the long run.
To summarize, there is no doubt that there is indeed an urgent need for building homes in the
countryside. At the same time, excessive development will have a detrimental influence upon
the entire human race. In the final analysis, to tackle the problem of housing shortage
governments should develop the countryside in a responsible way and ensure that adequate
27 Some people think that the media (newspapers) have the right to publish details of
people’s private lives, while others think it should be controlled. Discuss both views.
We are living in a celebrity obsessed world where everything that famous people do or say
makes headlines. If media publishes stories about the private lives of the rich and the famous,
that is because there is an audience for them. People want to know what celebrities do, say,
wear, eat and drink. Media merely satisfies this need because it makes sound business sense
for them.
Public personalities also have a private life that they want to shield from others. Just because
they are famous, the media doesn’t have the right to publish all sorts of personal information
about them. It has now become fashionable to publish photos and stories that are demeaning to
famous people. This trend must be condemned. Everybody has flaws; however, when a
celebrity exhibits them it becomes news. People get some weird pleasure from knowing that
these famous men and women that they admire are not perfect.
On the flip side, there is a symbiotic relationship between celebrities and the media. One
depends on the other for their existence. Celebrities need media exposure to remain celebrities.
30
@ielts4arab
They are desperate to stay in the news. They need media attention to build their career. They
become conscious of their right to privacy only after they have established themselves in the
industry. At that stage, however, they can’t expect the media, which fuelled their growth, to
To conclude, as long as people want to know about the private lives of famous personalities,
media will oblige them with photos and stories. However, I believe that public personalities
also have a right to privacy. Although I wouldn’t say that media should stop writing about
famous people, I do believe that they should draw a line. Media must resist the temptation to
28 Some people think that activities during the free-time should be planned while others
disagree. Discuss both sides and include examples and relevant data from your own
experience.
It is a fact that every individual spend his/her free time differently, as a group of people choose
to spend their leisure time without any plan at all, while others prefer to spend it with agenda
and schedule. Planned or unplanned leisure activities have their own positive sides but I prefer
to have a planned free time activities and the following essay will discuss them in details.
To begin with, some people prefer to spend their leisure activities freely, without any
schedules. They believe that free time activities should be totally different from their daily
activities, whereas they are full of routine activities, tight deadlines and busy schedules. They
believe that leisure time should be spent in doing anything they like doing that time, and they
could do it as long as they like. For example, some people prefer sunbath activity at the beach
31
@ielts4arab
during holiday periods, and they prefer to do it without any time limit. They will end their
For a number of reasons, another group of people believe that free time activities would be
more effective and efficient if they plan it. Firstly, by doing some preparation, they already
have the agenda for the day on what to do, what to see and how will they travel to those places,
therefore they could visit more attractive and unique places during their holiday
time. Secondly, a planned holiday would definitely save more budgets. People who planned
their holiday time could book airline tickets and accommodations from an earlier period. As a
result, they get cheaper prices for aeroplane tickets and the hotel's room rate as well.
In conclusion, it is a fact that some people prefer to plan their holiday or leisure time, while
others choose not to plan it. Each side has its own advantages, but I personally choose to have
a planned holiday time, as I could see more attractive places during that time and save more
money.
29/ In some countries an increasing number of people are suffering from health problems
as a result of eating too much fast food. It is therefore necessary for governments to
impose a higher tax on this kind of food? To what extent do you agree or disagree with
this opinion? You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support
In certain countries people are facing too many health issues due to excessive consumption of
fast food. Some people are of the view that to bring this in control the government ought to
increase the tax on such food items. However, I completely disagree with this view as I feel

@ielts4arab
that imparting health related knowledge to the citizens and banning hazardous food items are
Undoubtedly, consuming too much fast food leads to many health related concerns. To tackle
this, the government has to step in and impart education to the citizens regarding the amount
of fast food they can eat and its ill effects rather than imposing higher tax as it will increase the
burden on middle class people. To illustrate, in most of the countries about 65% of the
population consists of middle class and if the state imposes higher taxes on any food item they
will be the most affected lot. Therefore educating people of all class about the health issues
Fast food contains certain ingredients which are extremely harmful to the human body. Such
ingredients should be banned by the government to deal with the health problems arising out
of its consumption. This step can eradicate the problem from its root cause. For example,
Ajinomoto is one such ingredient which is extensively used in fast food preparations. Health
specialists consider it as the slow poison to the human body and it also causes cancer. This kind
of food substances used in fast food should be put on the banned list. This measure will be
In conclusion, I firmly believe that imposing tax will not help much in solving the health issues
arising out of excessive consumption of fast food as it will not address the root cause of the
issue; rather it would put more economic pressure on poor and middle class sections of the
society.
30/ Today more people are overweight than ever before. What in your opinion are the
primary causes of this? What measures can be taken to overcome this epidemic?
Nowadays the number of overweight people is constantly increasing. This essay will discuss
the main reasons of this epidemic and then describe the possible effects of the problem.
33
@ielts4arab
In my opinion, the foremost causes of obesity are inactive lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits.
Today more and more people rely on cars instead of walking, have less physical demands at
work and prefer inactive leisure activities. This results in burning less calories and gaining
weight. Moreover, the problem is accentuated by the growing number of people, who eat
irregularly and consume large portions of high-calorie food. For example, about 50% of the
adult population in Europe with so-called disordered eating suffer from obesity.
The possible effects of this problem include physical health problems and loss of productivity.
First of all, obesity results in incorrect functioning of the human body and contributes to the
risk of developing some chronic illnesses. For example, as body fat percentage increases, the
person’s metabolism worsens, which in turn may result in diabetes or heart diseases. Secondly,
overweight people are very unhealthy and often suffer from stress and tiredness. This lessens
their work capacity and results in lower productivity. For example, it has been proven that an
obese person needs to put more effort to complete some task than a person with normal weight.
To sum up, obesity is a big problem that affects a lot of people nowadays. It’s mainly caused
by inactive lifestyle and eating disorders and results in severe health problems and loss of
productivity.

In several countries across the world, the death rate has decreased dramatically. This may be
due to several reasons and this essay will analyse those and also suggest whether it brings
34
@ielts4arab
First and foremost reason for this scenario is the revolution of healthcare technology. This is
because the fatal diseases or disorders which were considered difficult to fight against have
become an easier task to tackle these days. Polio is one good example in India which no
longer causes death or disorder among people which once was a very devastating disease.
Moreover, the technical advancements are also facilitating complicated cardiac surgeries,
organ transplantation and 3D printed organ replacement. So these illustrations are proving the
While the lifespan of individuals’ increases, it would obviously benefit in several ways both
to individual and society. As far as a single person is concerned, if he lives longer then it is
certain that he would complete all his responsibilities in a proper way and lead a happy and
contented life with his or family. Looking onto the other side, the benefits outnumber the
disadvantages here as well. Due to the contribution of persons like scientists, politicians and
other leaders to the nation for a longer duration, the development of the nation is a reachable
goal.
By and large, the people are having healthy and longer life because of the intervention of
technology in the healthcare sector. This has been proven as a positive impact on both
individuals and a larger community and thus can be taken as a sign of betterment
32/ Today, the internet and TV have created that chance for ordinary people to become
Television and especially the internet have made it possible for an everyday person to become
a celebrity much more easily in the past. However, this phenomenon has also created a situation
where this can lead to a regular, innocent person having their life devastated. Therefore, it
35
@ielts4arab
seems that despite the positive aspects of this development, the negative effects are more
apparent.
The ability to become popular through digital media obviously leads to the opportunity to
become rich and famous. In the past, this was controlled by film studio executives and record
labels, but now a typical person can become a star simply by word of mouth. For example,
many popular Youtube stars became famous (and wealthy) simply by their fans sharing their
Nevertheless, the dark side of this ease of access to fame is that it can lead to infamy for a
person who maybe did not do much to deserve it. For every example of a new star emerging
from the internet or a TV talent show, there are myriad more instances of Everyday Joes who
have been harassed and had their lives ruined because of public scrutiny. Furthermore, this can
arise when someone is completely innocent, such as in the case of online bullying, or even
when someone seeks out attention but is ruthlessly mocked for trying to do something creative.
Overall, an increase in the ability for people to express themselves and their creativity is a
desirable thing in general. However, in reality the opportunity to become popular is also the
33/ Nowadays food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way
people live? Give reasons for your answer using your own ideas and experience.
The advent of technology has had a tremendous impact on our day to day life. For example,
we now have several home appliances that make it easy to cook food. However, in my opinion,
this ease of cooking food can have both positive and negative impacts.
36
@ielts4arab
The biggest advantage of this change is that people can save the time and energy required to
prepare meals. In other words, they no longer have to spend the entire day in the kitchen. For
example, home appliances like refrigerators, mixer grinders and microwave oven have even
enabled many women to go out to work because they have plenty of free time on their hand.
Also when food can be cooked in a matter of minutes even the busiest of people can eat proper
meals.
However, there is a downside to it. Often times, easily prepared food is not very healthy. For
example, many people have the habit of cooking huge amounts of food. They store the excess
food in the refrigerator and subsist on it for days. When it is time to have a meal, they just take
the food out of the refrigerator and heat it. The leftover is again stashed in the fridge. While
the refrigerator may prevent the food from going stale, the nutritional value is definitely lost.
Regular consumption of refrigerated food can have a negative impact on the health of people.
There are also many concerns about the safety of food cooked in microwave ovens.
To conclude, there are certainly many advantages to being able to cook food easily. However,
easily cooked food may lack in nutrients or cause health problems. Even so, the ease of cooking
has generally had a positive impact on the day to day life of people.
34/ Some people think that young children need to attend nursery before primary school.
While others believe young children can spend all day at home. Discuss both views and
Many parents send their 5-or 6 years old children to a primary school directly while a lot of
other parents send their children to a nursery school first before sending them to primary
schools. Both of these trends have their own benefits and demerits. Parents usually send their
kids to nursery schools at a very early age and some people oppose this idea because they feel
37
@ielts4arab
First of all, sending children to nursery schools at a very early age gives them the advantages
of being around other kids, teachers and in a nice educational environment that motivates them
to socially interact and study. This is important in terms of making a proper habit of study and
building up punctuation. Those kids spend 4-5 hours at nursery school and can easily spend
the remaining time with the family members. The modern educational system is very
competitive and getting involved in the education and formal institution in an early age is a
better option for a majority of the children. Secondly, many children do not have siblings or
other kids at their age and they feel lonely at home. Being in nursery school gives them the
opportunity to be around with other kids, to play, to study to make fun and do other activities
On the other hand, sending kids to schools when they are merely 3-4 years old is a bad idea
according to many parents. They feel that children should learn the basic things like reading,
enumeration etc. from home and only then attend the primary school when they grow to 5-6
years old. This is particularly helpful because parents take care of those things more carefully
than others. It is often observed that many students show negative mentality as they were sent
to school at a very early age. Moreover, staying at home until a certain age gives both the
parents and the children to establish a strong bonding between them. This might be hampered
if the child is sent to the nursery school. Again, parents are considered to be the best teachers
and the children at the early age have a lot to learn from their parents. The trend of sending
kids to school at a very early age often brings more negative aspects than positive aspects.
In conclusion, both views have their merits and demerits and the decision of sending kids to
the nursery school should be made based on the convenience of the parents and kids, the
educational facility at home and at the nursery school and finally based on the psychological
condition of the child. The children should be given every opportunity to grow up healthy,
mentally strong and well educated no matter what arrangement suits them.

While some people are in favour of giving several short vacations to children, others opine that

There are many advantages to short vacations. To start with, children can take a break from
studies frequently. Sometimes taking a short vacation can help children get rid of their mental
stress. Nowadays we see that most children attend private coaching classes after school and
hence they get hardly any spare time. This can affect them mentally. However if they have a
short vacation in between exams they can relax themselves, get rid of their mental stress and
feel refreshed. When they get short vacation, they have enough time to spend with their loved
ones. They can go to their relative’s house and spend time with them which we don’t see these
days.
Getting a long vacation also has its advantages. When they have long vacations they can join
some coaching classes like football coaching, swimming, drawing or dancing etc. They can
also travel to distant tourist destinations. However, in my opinion, in this age of intense
competition and the pressure to excel in both curricular and co-curricular activities, children

36/ Many famous athletes advertise different products.
Some people
assert that this happened because he was featured in myriads of advertisements at that time
which took his concentration away from the match. Furthermore, athletes could become money
minded if they do a lot of advertisement campaigns. The result of this could be devastating for
the players and ruin their game play. What’s more, sometimes players endorse poor quality
products just because they are offered truckloads of money. In my opinion, this is a misuse of
40
@ielts4arab
In conclusion, there is no doubt that popular players are advertising several products and this
phenomenon has some obvious drawbacks and benefits which are given in the above
paragraphs. All in all, it is up to the players to decide whether or not they should do these types
of advertisements.
37/ In our society, there is far more attention on men’s sport than women’s sport. What
are the reasons for this? Do you think that this is positive or negative development?
In the world we live in today, people are more interested in sports played by men. In my
opinion, this is an adverse trend. This essay will discuss how this over emphasis on male sports
decreases interest of women in games and impacts their image in the society.
Attention and encouragement play a vital role in a person’s growth. When the female players
do not get the same kind of treatment like male players do, they lose their morale and
enthusiasm, since they know that no matter how hard they try, they will not get the same
attention that men do In a recent study in Canada it was found that only 30% of women are
interested in sports leagues and the rest cannot find a valid reason to participate.
Also, the lack of interest in female sports creates a wrong impression about the capabilities of
a woman. Since women are not treated the same way as men in sports, people misjudge them
and think they might not have the same talent that men have. If women are not given the chance
to prove themselves, there is no way they can showcase their capabilities. For instance, in 2015
when the Men’s World Cup Cricket was played people had high hopes on the Indian team but
they lost it. Immediately after, Indian women’s team won the world cup for which they did not
To recapitulate, when men’s sports gain more attention than women’s sports, it has a negative
impact on the society as it not only brings down the enthusiasm of the women but also portrays

creativity and imagination, and their literature skill as well. To a certain extent, I would agree

On the one hand, it is true that reading brings a lot of benefits for mankind. Despite that people
read books or articles for pleasure or study, it is a fact that reading will enhance people's literacy
and develop their imaginative thinking. As there is no visual display in reading, it means that
people have to imagine by themselves about the event that is informed in the article or book,

advertisement or billboards to posters on the roads. People have different views about the
effects of advertising on our lives. In my opinion, there are both positive and negative impacts
of advertising.
There are two main reasons why it could be argued that advertising has several benefits on our
lives. Firstly, advertising plays an important role in the economy. Companies need to tell
consumers about their products and services. Advertising informs us about the choices we have
and the use of the products. For example, Kelling ' cornflakes have a variety of flavours for
different ranges to offer for different age groups and now also for people want to lose weight,
thus giving consumers different choice to select from. So, without advertising, we would have
fewer choices.
Secondly, advertising is a creative industry that employs many people, therefore providing
jobs opportunities and income for many people. So, without advertising, there would be higher
unemployment rate.
On the other hand, it is understandable why some people might think that advertising is a
negative part of our lives. One problem is that advertisers often aim their marketing at the
young age groups. Children, for instance, can easily be influenced by advertisements. So this
put pressure on their parents to buy them things by pestering and nagging. Another problem is
that many advertisements manipulate people too badly. Capturing the minds of consumers is
the main intention of the advertisements. Thus by persuading people that buying a product will

40/ School teachers are more responsible for the social and intellectual development of
Teachers certainly play an important role in the development of children because students
spend a great deal of time at school. Teachers not only teach; they also act as the guardians of
their students. In addition to teaching alphabets and numerals, they impart crucial social
education. For example, teachers teach students how to get along with others. They teach them
to cooperate and compete with one another without hurting them. Since the school is a
microcosm of the world, it is the best place to learn social skills and teachers make this easier
The role of parents is equally, if not more, important. Parents are the first people that the child
comes into contact with. Actually, studies have shown that much of the brain development
occurs before the age of three. Teachers play little or no role during this period. Also, no one
loves the children like their parents do. Teachers are guiding lights and protect children from
bullying and other vices at school, but the affection that they get from their parents is the
ultimate security they need. Also, children are more likely to imitate their parents than their
teachers. Actually, by simply being a role model for their children, parents can shape their
character and career to a great extent. Parents also play a role in ensuring that the atmosphere
at home is conducive to learning. No matter how well the teacher teaches, if the home
environment is not suitable for learning, the children will not progress.
44
@ielts4arab
To conclude, there is no denying the fact that teachers help with the social and intellectual
development of children. However, the argument that they have a greater role than parents does
not hold much water because parents are the first and most important influence on children.
41/ The cost of international travel is decreasing, and tourism is increasing in many
countries. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the rising trend of tourism for
countries?
This is a true fact to consider that in the present-day world has become a global village and
people have chances to travel all over the world due to decreasing the cost of international
travel. Considering this, some analysts consider that the rising trend of the tourism needs to be
implemented in the potential countries. However, there are some pros and cons associated
There are some significant advantages of growing trend of tourism. First and foremost,
few decades ago only developed countries and rich people had the chance to travel worldwide;
however, due to the reduction of cost of air travel majority of middle and lower classes
nowadays can afford to travel all over the world or within their own countries for different
purposes. As a result, many developing countries can emphasise their tourism and can earn
from foreign tourists and that could be higher than the past. It can be demonstrated by a recent
survey in Sri Lanka that has more than 60% of total income received from tourism. Moreover,
Despite, the advantages discussed above regarding rising tourism there are some negative
effects which cannot be neglected without any careful consideration. Endangering culture,
tradition could be done from the excessive presence of foreign tourists and that could be a

detrimental fact. Environmental damages and mixed cultural influences are hard to tackle
In the end, undoubtedly, increasing worldwide travels has immense benefits to the society;
42/ In some countries, young people at the age of 18 are considered adults and can drive
a car, vote and get married, while other countries don't allow it. What age do you think
In many countries the age at which one is considered a legal adult is typically 18, but in some
other countries one's legal adulthood only starts when he or she turns 21. What defines a legal
adult is the ability to legally work, participate in contracts, vote, marry, give sexual consent,
and join the military. However, I personally think that the proper age of being an adult should
be 21. In this essay, I am going to explain the reasons for this stand.
First, although one might assume that most 18-year-olds have reached maturity, research has
shown that adolescence actually extends into the early 20s. An 18-year-old's mindset is not
fully maturing. They are young adults on their way to explore the world, to experience and to
learn new things. Thus, some of them try to act cool like women and men when they do not
even know how to handle responsibilities as adults. For example, they go clubbing and drinking
but never learn about the consequences. Accident statistics in many states in the U.S. showed
Second, in reality, most young adults are still in high school when they are 18 years old and
they do not have a job. Therefore, they are not ready for all of the physical and mental
challenges that go along with being an adult such as raising a family or supporting themselves.
For many parents, the term legal adult does not mean their children possess certain adult
46
@ielts4arab
characteristics. For example, being an adult implies being able to make mature decisions,
participate in civic matters, have self-control, and be responsible. Some 18-year-olds simply
lack these characteristics and need further time to develop them. It is quite clear that when
children turn to 21 years old, they have already been in colleges and have had some life
In conclusion, 18-year-olds are not matured enough to be considered adults. The best age
43/ Some people think that the only way to judge someone’s success in business is by the
amount of money they make. Is this a true indicator of the success of a business and in
Many people strive hard to be successful in business. There are many indicators of a successful
business. A business that reaps more profits is generally thought to be more successful, but in
Firstly, it must be agreed upon that making money is one of the primary motives behind starting
any new business. Every individual wants to make a good deal of profits out of his investment.
Also, a company’s annual profits are very important to pull in other investors into that business
and thus achieve its expansion and growth. So, there is no question about money being one of
the indicators of success. Having said that, money is not the only measure / indicator of success.
There are other important indicators of a successful business. First comes employee
satisfaction. A business may make huge amounts of money but if its employees are unhappy,
it is worthless. Also, employee unhappiness will eventually lead to the failure of a company.
Secondly, earning name and fame is more important than making money. There are many
businessmen who earn respect in the society irrespective of their business turnovers. This is

@ielts4arab
because of the trust they have built over years. Last but not least, customer satisfaction is also
To conclude, even though profits are an important indicator of success, in my opinion, the
reputation and goodwill that a company enjoys are equally if not more important. After all,
only a business that earns the loyalty of its employees and customers can stay profitable in the
long term.
44/ The restoration of old buildings in major cities around the world costs enormous
amounts of money. This money would be better spent on providing new housing and road
many cities. Some people believe that the same amount may be utilized for other infrastructure
projects instead of the above. I disagree with this view. In this essay, I shall explain why the
budget to be spent for preserving and maintaining old buildings and monuments of cities should
not be curtailed.
The road side buildings in old cities are usually stone structures that represent the culture and
heritage of that place. Many of them are in poor condition. Even so, in my opinion, they should
be restored because these buildings are strongly attached to the history of the city. If they are
demolished, a part of the history will also die out and it is a national loss. On the other hand,
maintaining buildings of historical value in good condition is a great way to bring tourism to
the city. The tourism generates new employment opportunities and revenue. A part of this
revenue may be utilized for new infrastructure projects like better highway connectivity, new
housing schemes etc. These infrastructure projects may also provide a hassle-free experience
to the city tourists. For example, good metro train connectivity to the oldest part of heavily
populated city will ensure better infrastructure and it will promote tourism as well.
48
@ielts4arab
Having said that, those buildings that are beyond repair should definitely be demolished and
new structures should be built in their place. Allowing them to stay in their dilapidated state
To conclude, old structures and monuments tell us about the history and time-journey of the
city. Their maintenance and preservation shall enhance the reputation of the city and create
employment opportunities and revenue. Even so, buildings that cannot be restored should be
destroyed.
45/ Some people say that giving a smaller amount of money weekly to children will help
them become more capable as they grow older. Do you agree or disagree?
Many people think that giving some money to children on a weekly basis will assist them in
becoming more capable when they grow older. I personally disagree with the statement and
Firstly, by giving a small amount of money to children regularly we are not teaching them
about being independent. It is a fact that children are learning many things from their parents
in the early age and parents must do their best in becoming a good role model for them. By
giving money to children routinely, these parents are teaching their children that they do not
have to work hard or do something important to earn money. They will learn that someone
will give them some money every week which they could spend on. For example, I can recall
some of my cousins who regularly get a good amount of money from their parents and yet
they have not build up any habit of being independent or any sense of saving money for the
rainy days.
Secondly, the money could be misused by the children as they could spend it for buying
inappropriate stuff. It is undeniable that children are not yet mature and do not have the
49
@ielts4arab
wisdom in managing their own money. They might purchase things which might be
inappropriate for them, especially in third world countries where children are allowed to buy
cigarettes or alcoholic beverages. Many teenagers, for example, get money from their parents
and spend those for buying drugs or cigarettes which eventually harm their future rather than
In conclusion, some people believe giving children a small amount of money each week
would help them in becoming more capable when they become adults. I do not agree with the
statement as I believe that it could spoil them and the money could be misused. I agree if
parents would teach children to earn some money by having a part-time job during the
summer holiday, therefore they will appreciate their income and spend it wisely.
46/ The internet allows us to stay connected with each other no matter where we are. On
the other hand, it also isolates us and encourages people not to socialise. To what extent
It is a fact that internet technology has helped people in connecting with their relatives and
friends without the boundaries of distance and cost, but many people think that the
technology has made people become less socialized and more individualistic. To a certain
extent, I would agree that the internet has negatively affected to people's social life, but if we
use the technology in a wise and appropriate manner, it has a lot of positive functions.
On the one hand, it is true that many people are having social life problems these days, due to
the existence of internet and information technology. Almost everybody have their own
mobile phone nowadays, and they can use it for browsing, chatting and online gaming. With
all the attractive and entertaining applications, many people like to play around with their
50
@ielts4arab
gadget for hours and abandon their social life. As a result, it has been reported that many
families are having communication problems these days due to they have less time for an eye
However, it can be clearly seen that the problem has risen due to the improper and
indiscipline act of users themselves. If the internet is used in the right purpose and in the
appropriate portion, it would bring many benefits for mankind. Firstly, internet technology
has truly changed the way individuals and corporations interact and correspond. With
electronic email and chatting facilities such as yahoo or google, people could communicate
and connected with other people in a more efficient and effective way. Secondly, the internet
could also be used to expand people's networking. Social media sites such as Facebook or
twitter could be used to connect people from different areas, maintain friendships and even it
could be used for online businesses as well. Therefore, it depends on of the users themselves
In conclusion, although online technology has become a problem for some people's social
life, others disagree about it. To a certain point, I do believe that internet could be a treat to
our social life, but if people use it wisely and appropriately then I do believe that it has a lot

It is a hard decision making that parents send their children to boarding school or day school.
Both ways have their own disadvantages and disadvantages. In my view, I prefer to choose
51
@ielts4arab
It is of benefit to children if they are sent to boarding school. Living away from home can
cultivate children’s independence abilities. Children will face many detail problems, such as
laundries and cleaning the dormitories, when they are in boarding school. And that is good to
their future life. For example, some Chinese students are really hard to adapt themselves to a
new environment in their future life due to the over-protection by their parents. Besides, there
are many strict rules that students have to obey in boarding school. Usually, they are forced to
go to bed in a regular time and get up early to keep them healthy. It is worth mentioning that a
great many extra curricula activities such as sports and volunteers can enrich their knowledge
Some people hold the alternative view that living with parents will be easier for parents to
monitor their children’s developments. Students are vulnerable to everything that might have
a negative effect on them. Some students use drugs in the absence of parents’ monitor.
However, parents cannot control their children’s thoughts and it is inculcating children moral
values in their early age that can lead children towards the right paths in their life. What’s more,
it is undeniable that those who live with parents are less strong in their hearts when they are
confront with difficulties. They used to seek the help from others rather than trying to solve the
problem by themselves. Many students choose to suicide because of the short ability of bearing
the pressure.
In my view, sending teenage students to boarding school is a practical method to nurture their
all-around developments. And those young children in primary school need to be with parents
as they are still naïve and need the monitors from their parents.

medicine. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and
52
@ielts4arab
Nowadays, animals are widely used in many areas. Some people think it will be unnecessary
to use them in the near future. I disagree with this idea to a certain extent. While it is true that
animal products can be replaced by synthetic products in the clothing industry, humans will
We do find a lot of ways to avoid using animals. First many types of alternative foods, invented
by scientists, taste like meat but are made of soybeans. So people who eat these fake meat
dishes can remain vegetarians and still get all the nutrients they need. Using animals for
medical research is indeed cruel and immoral. After all, we do not have the right to kill other
forms of life for our benefit. Fortunately, the use of animals in medical research and trials is
decreasing rapidly. In the clothing industry, also, it is now possible to avoid using animals. For
example, synthetic fur and synthetic silk look as good as the real thing and their production
Even so, it is nearly impossible to stop using animals altogether. For example, fish and meat
are an integral part of many cuisines around the world. They are major sources of vitamins,
minerals and proteins. Meat substitutes are usually expensive and hard to find in many markets.
So, if people are told to stop using animal products, they may fail to get adequate nutrition.
Likewise, it is impossible to perform medical research without using animals. Of course, this
practice is unethical and scientists are working hard to minimise the use of animals, yet there
is no justification for stopping the production of some crucial drugs just because their testing
involves animals.
In summary, we need to respect animals’ right to live and reduce their use for purposes of
vanity; however we cannot avoid using them for meeting our nutritional requirements or

they are six or seven years old. Others believe that is important for young children to go
to school as soon as possible. What do you think are the advantages of attending school
Children are born proactive in the present generation, hence every parent is quite enthusiastic
to make their child grow faster. It is the responsibility of the parents to send their children to
school at the right age. It can be believed that sending children to school is more comfortable
rather than keeping them at home. In my opinion, a child definitely gains something more if he
consider this as an instance children gain much knowledge visually than the technical way of
implementation. Even a child with an average IQ can also understand what is happening around
him. Moreover, education is a part of life which does not have an end. So, every parent thinks
Some people think that children should stay with the parent until they are at least six or seven
years old because children feel forcible and uncomfortable at a very young age without them.
But, the education system is changing more rapidly, the way of thinking and behaviour of the
parents has to change according to the system. Furthermore, completion of studies may make
the student get into corporate companies and mould to the outside world at a very young age.
To summarise, I personally believe that children should be sent to school at a young age since,
in today’s world, competition plays an important role. Everything goes on ‘First Come First

50/ Nowadays in many countries young people leave rural areas to study or work in cities.
What are the reasons for this? Do the benefits of this outweigh the disadvantages?
Migration from rural areas to cities has become more prevalent due to the availability of better
universities and job opportunities there. While some people argue that the disadvantages of this
phenomenon outweigh the merits, I believe that this development is beneficial in many ways.
There are two main reasons which urge people to leave their rural villages and towns and move
to the cities. The first reason is that most of the universities are located in the cities and these
universities attract the ambitious students who want to earn higher degrees. The second reason
is that the job market in the cities is more active and therefore, it is much easier for professionals
to find jobs there compared to the rural areas where the economic activities are limited.
There is no doubt that there are several disadvantages to this migration such as the exponential
population growth in the cities which hits the cities’ infrastructure severely and also this
migration leaves the rural areas abandoned and demotes some necessary professions such as
farming. But, on the other hand, moving to cities has two major merits for the individuals and
The major advantage gained is the remarkable increase in the numbers of the university
graduates which ultimately increases the society’s education level. The second merit is that
cities allow more people to have better jobs and enhance their financial conditions.
In conclusion, most of the people in rural areas tend to move to big cities for reasons related to
their career and their education. Although there are some disadvantages to this issue, we cannot
deny that the individuals and society are benefiting much from this phenomenon.

51/ Some parents believe that reading entertainment books is a waste of time. In their
opinion, children should only read serious, educational books. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own experience.
Books are called the treasure of knowledge. Presently, some parents opine that reading books
providing amusement to the children is worthless and it leads to wastage of time. In contrast,
Reading academic and other meaningful books is advocated by them. In my view, offspring’s
must have freedom to read recreational books along with academic books. This essay intends
to discord with the given statement firmly and some logical points will be discussed in
upcoming paragraphs.
There are numerous points to endorse my point of view. First and foremost, entertaining books
based on stories can be a massive source of inspiration for pupils. Lessons taught by such books
can have life changing impacts on them. Taking a real-life example into consideration, in my
profession. This book had some great motivational stories. One of them with the title of ‘union
is strength’ was the story of an old farmer who had four sons who were quarrelsome and lacking
unity. But farmer brought unity among them with the help of few sticks. This book seriously
inspired me towards the value of unity and the importance of such entertaining books is thus
very clear.
Further emphasising on my point of view, children may get frustrated or bored if they are
forced to read only educational books. This will sure curtail the interest of adolescents towards
reading. Needless to say, they should be free to read some recreational books so that they do
not lose their interest or reading habits. Last but not the least, reading interesting and
entertaining books can assist children to get rejuvenated and remain psychologically fit. Hence,

To recapitulate, undeniably, academic, general knowledge and history books are of great
importance; however, we cannot underestimate the value of entertaining books. It is, therefore,

Most families in the developed countries own at least one car. The situation is not much

public transport is declining. It is true that almost all of us want to own a car. Busy highways
are also considered to be a sign of a developed economy. However, an increase in the usage of
When more and more cars hit the roads, there is an increase in vehicular pollution. The quality
of air in cities is already bad. An increase in the number of cars will make the situation even
worse. Atmospheric pollution can lead to global warming. When average temperatures rise,
they cause drastic changes in weather patterns across the world. What’s more when the quality
Although technology has significantly advanced in the last few decades, cars and other vehicles
are still run on fossil fuels like petrol and diesel. These are not renewable sources of energy
and are getting used up fast. In many countries fuel prices are already pretty high. A further
depletion in the reserves of fossil fuels will make petrol and diesel costlier. In such a scenario,
even public transport systems will be unaffordable. This will badly affect the poor.
An increase in the number of private cars also leads to more accidents. Countless lives are lost
in accidents every day. This is clearly an indication that our existing infrastructure is incapable
57
@ielts4arab
Since cars are a status symbol, it is not easy to dissuade people from buying them. However,
governments can encourage more people to depend on the public transport system by
upgrading their quality and reliability. If trains and buses arrive on time, more people will
depend on them. Carpooling is another option. People who work in the same office can share
car journeys. By doing this they can not only reduce their fuel expenses, but also make the
In conclusion, a rise in the number of private cars leads to several problems. However, the
governments can improve the situation by making public transport systems more reliable.
53/ Many people believe that companies and individuals should pay to clean up the
environment in proportion to the amount of pollution they have produced. To what extent
It is often argued that people should be charged in accordance with the amount of pollution
they produce. While I accept that certain organisations should be penalised for this, I believe
There are several reasons why the giant entrepreneurs should pay for contaminating the land.
Having penalised with a specific amount of money factories will help the government to raise
money which can be used in a variety of long-term and rationalised measures to mitigate the
pollution from the earth. This will also deter them from producing more garbage and
pollution. Take London as an example, where governments have invested recently a hefty
amount of money in public transportation, in particular, local buses which have been
designed to be much more efficient than the older ones. So, these vehicles discharge fewer
combustible pollutants into the air. Also, these self-centred companies sometimes exploit
natural resources such as forests, water land and agricultural lands, beyond all their limits just
to increase the profit. If these companies are not obliged to share the amount of money,
58
@ielts4arab
which is required to curb pollutions, they will become more short-sighted (or greedy) in
terms of making more money without even caring about the impact on climate change and
environment.
However, I would argue that every individual should not be liable to pay recommended fine.
It is unrealistic that we can stop people from polluting the universe merely by imposing
charges. Because people need electricity to enjoy technologies, a farmland to grow crops and
Furthermore, if people from devastated backgrounds are charged more for the impact they

opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your
experience.
Medical surveys are often conducted to make an assessment of the health problems that affect
the government and private companies; however, individuals should not be allowed to conduct
them.
It is good for the public when the government sponsors such surveys. When medical surveys
are conducted by the government, the findings will be unbiased. Also, the recommended
treatment options will be more effective and affordable. Unlike private companies,
59
@ielts4arab
governments are not focused on making a profit. Consequently, the findings of their surveys
are more likely to benefit the general public. For these reasons medical surveys on serious
health problems / ailments such as cancer or mental health disorder should only be conducted
by the government.
Private companies, on the other hand, are profit-driven. They need to promote their products
so they may tamper with the results. Therefore, we cannot fully trust these companies. For
example, when a toothpaste company conducts a survey, the finding will invariably highlight
the goodness of their product. Therefore, private companies can perhaps be allowed to conduct
surveys in the cosmetic field where it is not a question of life and death. Also, customers who
want to enhance their appearance will probably not mind having to pay more. But allowing
them to conduct surveys on serious health problems can have disastrous consequences.
As for individuals, well, they are not eligible for conducting health surveys. Since they lack
the funds, infrastructure and resources to conduct authentic surveys, they should not be allowed
to conduct them.
To conclude, since health surveys play a crucial role in helping a community stay healthy, they
should be promoted. However, surveys on serious health problems should only by conducted
by government agencies because surveys conducted by private companies are more likely to
be biased.
55/ The international community must act immediately to ensure that all countries
reduce their consumption of fossil fuels such as gas, oil and coal. To what extent do you
Increasing consumptions of fossil fuels have resulted in the emission of the greenhouse gas
which is one of the causes of issues relating to environmental damage in recent years.
60
@ielts4arab
Therefore, some people suggest that all countries should take actions urgently to lessen the
usage of the harmful energy. From my personal view, I agree with the statement to some extent.
First of all, it cannot be denied that fossil fuel is one of the major contributors to global warming
and climate change. Indeed, the burning of oil and coal produces tonnes of carbon dioxide per
year, and it is one of the greenhouse gases that enhance radioactive forcing and contribute to
global warming. The rise in temperature of the Earth has associated with numerous of adverse
effects such as melting of polar ice caps, flooding of low-lying areas and rise to the sea level.
Secondly, fossil fuels are generally considered to be non-renewable resources because they
take millions of years to form. If the utilisation of mineral fuels is not reduced and controlled,
it could be exhausted and people may soon run short of fossil fuels while scientists have not
found an alternative energy source. As a result, the price of fossil fuels has also increased
However, there might be some concerns about the reduction of mineral fuels utilisation. One
among of them is that the approach will lead to failure to maintain well-balanced social order.
In fact, manufacture industry, transportation and even home heating require powers, which are
generated through fossil fuels. Accordingly, detrimental consequences might impact to the
development of the entire the world if we cut down the use of fossil fuel immediately. More
than that, some alternative powers such as nuclear, solar and wind power have not been applied
widely due to reasons like climate condition, high cost or safety requirement. It could take
scientist many years developing these energies to be perfect substitutes for fossil fuel.
In conclusion, in order to tackle environment problems and avoid the growing scarcity of
natural energy in the future, the reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels should be

56/ How important is the dress code in our lives? Do you consider that dressing
appropriately is important or are you of the opinion that everyone should be able to wear
Whether dress code is important or not is a debate that is going for a long time. As far as I am
concerned, I think the dress code is important and should be followed especially in schools
and offices. The way person dresses up gives a lot of indications about their attitude and
Firstly, having a dress code gives you the feeling of unity and togetherness. Many times
having a dress code could make people forget their differences and work towards a common
goal. For example, all the sports team and government organisations such as police and
armed forces have same dress or uniform, which instils the feeling to being part of the team
and working for a common goal. Many schools have dress codes, which is very vital to make
the student understand that the in spite of differences in their cultural and financial
background, they are equals and will only be evaluated based on merit.
Dress codes are also important in offices, especially in customer facing roles. When a person
interacts with the clients, he or she is representing the company and dressing appropriately is
essential. Different companies have different styles of work which represented by their dress
code. For instance, a financial institution generally has a formal dress code, since it gives the
impression of being attentive and serious towards their work. Suppose if a person dresses in
torn jeans with loose fitted T-shirt and loafers, I am sure clients would not be comfortable
giving their money to such hands. Similarly, if you work in fashion industry, you are
expected to be funky and experimental and not wear formal clothes. So, it is important to

It is commonly believed that money brings happiness. However, it is a debatable fact that
wealthier persons are happier, and happiness is directly related to the money. According to me,
money plays a vital in gaining happiness, but a person feels joyful because of several reasons
To begin with, money is important to satisfy the basic needs for survival. Nowadays, we require
rich person can obviously afford to visit various places around the world, which makes one
happier. Moreover, today, for spiritual or philosophical guidance one needs money. In few
cases, one may obtain joy by helping the needy people by giving a handsome amount of
donations. In this way, one might get happiness. Therefore, one may consider that, ‘Money is
the existing God’ in today’s world and one becomes happier when one has money. However,
Some others may argue that money could be useful to purchase the required things,
nevertheless, one cannot buy happiness. For example, the happiness in the eyes of a mother
when she gives birth to a baby cannot be bought by money. Next, real happiness is directly
linked to the soul satisfaction. One can get exuberant joy without money as if by participating
in charity work and so on. Hence, it is clear that one cannot relate happiness with money.
Money can buy a luxurious house but cannot guarantee joy. Happiness comes from a satisfied
soul and sound body while money can ensure the materialistic joys.
63
@ielts4arab
To summarise, one may consider that money is very crucial in achieving happiness and some
sort of people may also consider that ‘money makes the mare go’. However, what I believe is

believe that sport is no more than a leisure time activity. Discuss both views and give your
own opinion.
Nowadays, there has been a positive trend that sport has gained popularity in society. However,
others think that sport is just a leisure activity. In my perspective, both views have credibility
First of all, it is an undeniable fact that there are some reasons why sports is essential to the
society. One of the reasons is that people can become healthier than ever before. By playing
sports frequently, people can release toxic elements from off their body in order to help the
government to save money which is allocated for health insurance's residents. For example, the
number of obesity and heart attack, today, has decreased significantly throughout the world
Another reason is that young generations are able to cultivate a good habit. With the rapid
games and chatting through social media as well. If parents encourage their children to do sport
instead of playing games at home, children can improve their social interaction with peers.
However, there are opposing arguments saying that sport is nothing more than a leisure activity.
It is true that sport can be counted as a leisure activity because not everyone has the abilities
and potentials to become professional sports players. Therefore, people generally consider it
64
@ielts4arab
as a simple activity for relaxing their mind and body during holidays. Apart from this, many
families see sport as the way to strengthen the sense of belonging to the relatives especially for
children because parents' time is spent more to do job tasks and put less care on them.
All things considered, although some people believe that sports are merely some leisure
activities, I still think that sport plays an important role in the society because it has brought
59/ Some people argue that competitive sports are good for bringing together different
people and cultures. Others argue that these sports can cause problems and increase
conflicts between nations. Discuss both points of view and give your own opinion.
Competitive sports attract audience from different nations and cultures. While some believe
that such occasions promote unity among people of different cultures and nationalities, others
fear that they lead to the escalation of tension among people. In my opinion sports always
spread love and foster brotherhood among people irrespective of their nationality.
Every year teams from different countries play competitive sports in global tournaments. The
popularity of these events make people visit stadiums to watch them live. People supporting
their national teams are root for their team’s victory. Even then they respect their opposition
team and their supporters. People enjoy the competitive nature of the game and simultaneously
interact with their opponents. This interaction between the people of different cultures is of
mutual respect and admiration. FIFA Football world cup, for instance, sees stiff competition
between arch rivals and their supporters are seen enjoying the game with their counterparts.
Thus, it is evident that people of different origins come together to enjoy and amalgamate at
these events.

There are, however, many people who are wary of competitive sports and its after effects. They
opine that competitive spirits in the high stake games raise tempers of the supporters of the
losing team. As the emotions run high during such games there is every chance that serious
altercations can occur between supporters of different teams. Sometimes emotional outburst is
so phenomenal that tensions can even lead to a diplomatic crisis between the two nations. An
India Pakistan cricket match, for example, is watched with fervor by the people of both the
nations. It is always feared that this game might raise conflicts between two nations and
In conclusion, in my opinion, frequent exposure to such competitive games eases the pressure
associated with them and creates the atmosphere of bonding and affection between people with
different backgrounds.
60/ Some people believe the aim of university education is to help graduates get better
jobs. Others believe there are much wider benefits of university education for both
individuals and society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Higher education plays a pivotal role towards an individual's professional life. Many people
are of the opinion that the role of university education is to merely facilitate a graduate's job
hunting endeavours. Others believe that besides this, the beneficial ramifications a university
Firstly, it is obvious that the primal objective of any university is to award a successful
candidate with a professional degree. Although a degree may not guarantee a job, it is,
nevertheless necessary to have one, as employers would not want to hire an individual
without the right kind of qualifications. Hence, if a university is able to increase job prospects
66
@ielts4arab
of its graduates, people are naturally inclined to believe that this is the only task a university
is supposed to fulfil.
On the other hand, many believe that a degree is just one of the many advantages a university
can offer. Such as professional character development; the importance of which moves in
tandem with that of a mere degree. Of course, both are important, but without the former, a
graduate may not be able to earn a place for himself in a professional setting. The main
reason the supports this claim is that employers seek not only the right qualifications of a
potential employee but also how well he or she can adapt to the work environment of that
particular firm.
Having analysed both views, it seems that besides helping the graduates to find better jobs, a
university can do much more than that, such as instilling professional attitudes in the
graduates that can facilitate not only their job prospects but also make them contribute
towards the welfare of the overall society. It is expected that the developing universities give
the aforementioned advantages equal weight to that of a merely helping to improve job
61/ Many people are involved in sports when they are young but stop once they are adults.
Why do many adults stop doing physical exercise? What can be done about this problem?
Physical work out is essential to maintain a healthy life style. Despite that, a lot of people who
used to do sports as children quit exercising when they grow up. This essay will analyse some
of the reasons for this worrying issue, as well as propose solutions that may trigger people to
To begin with, quitting working out as adults has a number of reasons; firstly, beyond a shadow
of a doubt, kids are more active and energetic than adults. Also, children consider sports a game
67

that they enjoy doing. therefore, working out is extremely exciting for them. Secondly, as
people grow older, their life gets busier and they have less time to exercise. Take for example,
when an adult gets married, not only he spends a lot of time at work, but also, he has to spare
time for his family obligations. Finally, some people are not aware of the healthy benefits of
physical exercise.
Nevertheless, there are potential ways to solve this problem. Primarily, the media has a great
role in promoting physical exercising with all its concomitant health benefits. For instance,
exercising can cure many debilitating diseases such as diabetes. Furthermore, more television
programs and talk shows should emphasize exercising and entice people to do it more. Another
important measure that should be taken, more social events that include games and physical
activities for adults should be held, also, if the winners' prizes are enticing enough, more
To conclude, it is evident that there are several causes of adults quitting doing sports, of most
importance, is lack of time and energy. However, if people became aware of hoe working out
62/ Some people think that only staff who worked in the company for a long time should
be promoted to higher positions. What is your opinion on this? Give reasons and relevant
Promotions help boost the morale of employees. Higher positions earn higher salaries and
hence everyone wants to be promoted. Some people feel that only those employees who have
worked for an organization for several years should be given promotion. I don’t agree with this

@ielts4arab
Employers often believe that employees who have spent a lot of years in an organization are
more likely to be loyal to it. They tend to reward this loyalty with promotions and rises. I am
not against promoting senior employees. However, in my opinion, new hires too should be
Just because someone has spent ten or twenty years in an organization, it does not mean that
they are the most competent. Sometimes new employees deliver better performance than
senior employees because they possess more skills and qualifications. What’s more, a ‘new
If competent employees are denied promotion because they don’t have years of experience in

an employee’s eligibility for promotion. This includes their qualifications, special skills and
domain expertise. Promotions and rises encourage employees to work harder. If they are denied
promotion in spite of their hard work and eligibility, they might just quit.
63/ Some people think it is more important to spend time in developing a successful
career while others think it is more important to spend time with friends and family.
Nowadays, many people hold the view that career development is more important due to the
fierce competition in the modern society. At the same time, there are people who opine that
those who live in the fast-paced life should slow down and spend more time with family and
friends. In this essay, I will examine both sides of the debate before arriving at a conclusion.
To begin with, there is no doubt that career development contributes to the improvement of
people’s living standard and sense of fulfilment. It is possible to say that a person who tends to
69
@ielts4arab
devote more time on his/her job pursues more financial return. The main reason for this is that
financial security now has become extremely vital to a family—a household not only has to
bear the daily expenses that are continuously rising, but also pay the exorbitant tuition fee of
its children. In addition, a prestigious job brings an individual a sense of fulfilment including
However, others have the opinion that it is necessary for people to dedicate more time to their
friends and family, since the fast pace of life somehow leads to the disintegration of families
and relationships. For example, parents who pursue money and career are more likely to neglect
their children and the elders in their family; college graduates who seek better job opportunity
choose to migrate to metropolises that are far away from their home.
To summarize, there is no easy answer to this debate. On balance, however, we have to admit
that both career and family play a significant role in our lives. Hence, it is important for us to
