III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

Teachers’ Activities Students Activities

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

Let us ask for the guidance of the lord.

In the name of the Father, of the Son, of the
Please lead the prayer Jovelyn.
Holy Spirit, Lord thank you for today for

taking care of us. Bless us all Lord every day

in Jesus name. Amen.

2. Greetings

Good morning class. Good Morning Sir!

Before you take your seats, please

arrange your chair and pick up the

(Students arrange the chairs)
trashes. Thank you

Let me remind you first our class rules.

a) Raise your hand if you want to

answer.

b) Respect each other.

c) No using cellphones unless I

required you to use.

Obey and follow Sir.
What are you going to do these rules?
3. Checking of Attendance

I will check your attendance according to

your seat plan. Are you in your proper

Yes, Sir.
seat right now?

4. Collecting of Assignments
(Students will pass their assignments)
Pass your assignment forward.
Yes, Sir.
Are all papers in?

5. Review

Now we start, can anyone recall what our

previous lesson was?

Sir, our previous lesson is all about functions
Okay Rezel.
and relations.

Very good.

It was said that relation is a set of ordered pairs

in which every ordered pair consist of x and y

function is a relation where each element value

that range. While Function is a rule that pairs

each element in one set, called domain, with

exactly one element from a second set, called the

range.

Before we proceed to our lesson for today. Let us

unlock first the words that we might to encounter

during our class discussion.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Unlocking of Difficulties

 Functions- is a rule that pairs each

element in one set, called domain, with

exactly one element from a second set,

called the range.

 Operations on functions- let f and g be

the function; the sum of f and g; the

difference of and g; the product of f and

g; and the quotient of f and g.

2. Motivation

Class please give me your mathematics

Yes, Sir.
hugot for the day when I call your name,

but if you failed to provide atleast one,

you need to answer my question.

Girls is like a mathematics sir.

Because they are difficult to understand.

Now Mr. Tubat, could you please give

me your mathematics hugot for the day?

( Mr. Tubat will sit down)
Why?

Very good Mr. Tubat, please sit

Me and my crush is like a asymptote.
down.
Because we’re always approaching but never
touching.

How about you Ms. Malagar?

And why? (Ms. Malagar will sit down)

That’s nice Ms. Malagar, please be Sorry will but I don’t have a mathematics
hugot for the day.
seated.

Now it’s your turn Mr. Jalani. 5x2 – 3 sir.

Now Mr. Jalani what is the product of Our topic for today is all about Operations on
Functions
(2x2 + 2) and ( 3x2-5).

Based on your answer Mr. Jalani

(Mr. Jalani will sit down)
what is our topic today?

Very good, Mr. Jalani please sit

down.

3. Presentation of Topic

And now let’s proceed to our lesson for

today is about operations on functions.

Here are our objectives for this lesson. (a)

Define operations on functions, (b) To

add, subtract, multiply, and divide (Students will listen)

functions. (c) solve problems involving

operations on functions; and (d) Apply

the operations on functions in real life (Students will look the PowerPoint
Presentation)
situations.

4. Discussion

Now class, kindly look at the PowerPoint

Presentation.

Okay thank you.

Functions behave exactly as one would

expect regarding the four basic

operations of algebra (addition,

subtraction, multiplication, and division).

when functions are combines by these (Students will listen)

operations, though, the domain of the

new combined the elements that were

shared by the domains of the original

functions. Below are the formulas for

combines functions.

1. ADDITION OF FUNCTION

 Their sum, denoted by f + g, is the

function denoted by (f + g) (x)= f(x) +

g(x)

Example: Use the following function

below.

 g(x) = x2 + 2x- 8

 v(x) = x2 + 5x + 4

1.1 find the sum of v(x) and g(x).

Solution:

a. (v + g) (x)= (x2 + 5x+4) (x2 +2x – 8)

(Tabuada will answer)
= x + 5x + 4 + x +2x– 8
2 2 (f+g)(x) = f(x) + g(x)
= 4x – 5 + 2x
= 2x2 + 7x – 4 = 6x- 5

Now class, please solve this example.

(Mr. Tabuada will sit down)
4x-5 and 2x.

Any volunteer from the class?

Yes, Mr.Tabuada

Very good, Mr. Tabuada please be

seated.

2. SUBTRACTION OF FUNCTION

 Their difference, denoted by f- g, is the

function denoted by (f- g) (x) = f (x) –

g(x)

Example: Use the following function

below.

 f(x) = x + 3

 p(x) = x – 7
(Ms. Plaza will answer.)
Solution: (p-f)(x) = p(x) - f(x)
= 4x – 5- 2x
(p – f) (x) = (2x – 7) – (x + 3) = 2x- 5

= 2x – 7 – x – 3

= x – 10
(Ms. Plaza will sit down)

Could you please solve this example Ms.

Plaza 4x-5 and 2x.

Very good Ms. Plaza please be seated.

3. MULTIPLICATION OF FUNCTION

 Their product, denoted by f . g, is the

function denoted by (f. g) (x) = f(x). g

(x).

Example: Use the following function

below.

 f(x) = x + 4

 p(x) =2x – 5
(Ms. Jasmin will answer)

(f. p) (x) = (x + 4) (2x – 5) (f. p) (x) = (x + 3) (2x – 7)

= 2x2 –5x + 8x –21 = 2x2 –7x + 6x –21

= 2x2 – 3x – 20 = 2x2 – x – 21

Now, it’s your turn Ms. Jasmin please

(Ms. Jasmin will sit down)
answer the example and use the

following function below.

 f(x) = x + 3

 p(x) =2x – 7

Very good Ms. Jasmin please be seated.

4. DIVISION OF FUNCTION

 Their quotient, denoted by f/g, is the

function denoted by (f/g) (x) = f(x) / g(x),

excluding the value of x where g (x) = ≠

0.

Example: Use the following function

below.

 v(x) = 9x2 + 5x + 4

 g(x) = 2x
Solution:
Solution:
(v/g) (x) = v(x)/g(x)
(v/g) (x) = v(x)/g(x)
= 4x-5/2x
= 9x2 + 5x +4 / 2x

Could you please answer this example in

your activity notebook and use the

following function below.

 v(x) = 4x - 5

 g(x) = 2x

IV. EVALUATION

Now class, group yourselves into four. Each group kindly get a long bond paper or a

whole of yellow paper and answer the following:

1. Let f(x) = 3x and g(x) = 2x – 3, find the following function.

a. f + g

b. f – g

c. f. g

d. f / g

V. ASSIGNMENT
In a whole sheet of yellow paper, using the same functions in our activity 1, Evaluate

the following:

a. (f+ g) (3) c. (f . g) (- 2)

b. (f – g) (6) d. (f / g) (0)
