reaction was found to be dependent on concentration of compound and KOH both.

SECTION D
The following questions are case-based questions. Each question has an internal
choice and carries 4 (1+1+2) marks each. Read the passage carefully and answer
the questions that follow.
31. Carbohydrates are polyhydroxy aldehydes and ketones and those compounds which on [1+1+2]
hydrolysis give such compounds are also carbohydrates. The carbohydrates which are
not hydrolysed are called monosaccharides. Other saccharides are oligosaccharides and
polysaccharides. Monosaccharides with aldehyde group are called aldose and those

mainly synthesized by plants during photosynthesis. Glucose has Pyranose ring
structure.

Study the above table carefully and answer the following questions.

(b) Why are values of Kf higher than Kb?
(c) 45 g of ethylene glycol (C2H6O2) is mixed with 600 g of water. Calculate the
freezing point depression.[Kf = 1.86 K/m, molar mass of ethylene glycol = 62
