Harmonic SystemManager

• Harmonic SystemManager is the system’s Network Management Server.


• The SystemManager acts as the administrative hub of an Harmonic Spectrum media
server installation.
• Its streamlined and intuitive browser-based user interface allows users to make rapid
adjustments to system configurations, integrate additional components and identify fault
conditions.
• The SystemManager's fault reporting and alerting capabilities can head off issues before
they become critical. It provides both facility wide control, as well as active monitoring and
alerting.

• The SystemManager consists of the SystemManager application that runs on the


SystemManager Hardware Platform
• The SystemManager application consist of :
– Background application that communicates with MediaDirectors/ ContentDirector over Ethernet
– Web server that provides a user interface for configuring, monitoring and upgrading MediaGrid and
Harmonic video server

• Beginning from SystemManager v5.4 onwards, a license is required to run


SystemManager application
• Licensing is via FlexLM
• 6 Key Services used by SystemManager PC for Harmonic:
– Harmonic/FlexLM License Manager
– Harmonic SystemManager
– Portmap
– SNMP Service
– NTP services (optional)
– vDHCP services (optional)

• SystemManager maintains a database file called “manager.oda” in


“D:\Omneon\manager\omdb\” folder
• The database file contains the details of the hardware components managed by the
SystemManager as well as a copy of the Spectrum configuration settings.

Accessing SystemManager GUI

Two ways:
• On SystemManager PC, launch Internet Explorer URL
– http://localhost or http://x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the SystemManager PC
• On other Windows PC on the network, launch Internet Explorer URL
– http://x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the SystemManager PC

Accessing SystemManager GUI

• At the login screen, click “Log In”

• Enter login credential:


– Username = administrator
– Password = omneon

• Select the “Servers and Switches” to see MediaGrid components and status

• For the SystemManager have the correct status display, need to configure for the
“Access Control” with the filesystem login credential (omneon/usm)

Go into individual equipment to see its status

• By Click on the equipment link

Check cluster information as well

• Click on Cluster name.
