Tag Question

1. Subject or pronoun---------- I, we, you, he, she, they, it, there


2. If the sentence is affirmative, answer is negative
If the sentence is negative, answer is affirmative
3. Short form is used (negative): am not = aren’t; will not = won’t; shall not= shan’t
4. Sentence with auxiliary verb:
(am/is/are/was/were/have/has/had/can/could/may/might/shall/should/will/would/
need/ dare/ought to/must)
They have done well, haven’t they?
5. Sentence without auxiliary verb:
Do / does/ did----
Did-------past tense
Does----present tense + sub. 3rd person. Singular num.(he, she, it)
Do-------others present
He works hard, doesn’t he?
He went to London, didn’t he?
6. Let’s or let us.---------------shall we?
Let’s have some fun, shall we?
7. Others imperative----------------- will you?
Kindly, do me a favour, will you?
Let me sing a song, will you?
Never tell a lie, will you?
8. Everybody, everyone, somebody, someone, anybody, anyone, nobody, no one, none,
plural subject----------------------they
Every mother loves her child, don’t they?
9. Something, nothing, anything, everything, thing(1), animal(1), baby----------it?
Nothing comes out of nothing, does it?
10. Hardly, scarcely, seldom, few, little, rare-------------------- negative
A barking dog seldom bites, does it?
