3 Protection principle
CSC-160 series protection equipment applies modularization design idea. For different type, only
functions configuration of each protection function module is different. Instruction of equipment
software is carried on according to function module. Following introduction function included in
CSC-160 series equipment.

3.1 Structure of the protection program

Protection CPU software includes main program, sampling interruption program and fault process
interruption program.

As main program running normally, it will execute sampling interruption program once every
sampling interval time and distinguish collection of electric quantity, record wave and abrupt
startup and so on. Fault process interruption program fulfills discrimination of steady-state
quantity startup, protection logic, VT fail, CT fail, control circuit failure, UX phase and so on. If
the abnormity occurs, it will issue corresponding alarm signal and report. For severe alarm, it will
block protection output when sending signal, for common alarm, it will send signal and remind
running personnels of checking and handling.

3.2 Startup element

Protection startup element is used to open protection power supply of tripping output relay and
start the protection fault process program.

3.2.1 Phase current difference and zero sequence current abrupt startup
element
Criterion: △I>IQD or △3I0>IQD (equipment with earth fault protection)

Where: △I=| |iK-iK-T|-|iK-T-iK-2T| |,  means three different phases such as AB, BC and CA;

△ 3I0 means zero sequence abrupt current; IQD means startup setting.

When any abrupt quantity exceeds startup threshold for 3 times continuously, protection startup.
Abrupt current gained through this way can compensate unbalance current caused by frequency
change of power system.

3.2.2 Zero sequence current startup element

Equipment with earth fault protection includes this startup element.

It is a kind of startup element set to avoid inadequate sensitivity of phase current difference abrupt
startup element when long-distance fault or fault with large arc resistance happens. Criterion:

Zero sequence current >0.9*min(setting of earth fault protection stage I, II, III and IV), and the
element operated after 30ms.

-11-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3.2.3 Over current startup element

Equipment with over current protection includes this startup component.

It is a kind of startup element set to avoid inadequate sensitivity of abrupt startup element.
Criterion:

Any phase current>0.9*min (setting of overcurrent stage I, II and III), and the element operated
after 30ms.

3.2.4 Power swing detection element

Equipment with distance protection contains this component

It is a kind of element set to detect power swing under normal running status of the system.

Criterion: any phase current>setting of power swing current and lasting for 30ms.

3.3 Current differential protection

3.3.3 Startup element of current differential protection

1) Common startup component is same with section 3.2.

2) Function of weak source startup

The startup element is used for protection startup on weak source side. Criteria as follows:

a) Equipment receive startup signal from opposite-side;

b) Any phase differential current is larger than setting of phase current differential;

c) Phase voltage or phase to phase voltage is lower than 0.6 times of rated value of
corresponding voltage.

-13-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

If weak source side has no VT and can not provide voltage, protection on power side can select
function of “Start InterBlk Off” by control word. Therefore, protection on power side can not be
blocked by opposite-side startup element and trip fast.

3) Remote calling startup

The startup element is used to guarantee reliable startup of protection on remote fault sidewith
large resistance grounding and criteria are as follows:

a) Receive opposite side startup signal;

b) Zero sequence differential current is larger than operation value: ID0 > I0Z;

c) Both of the local side and opposite side have abrupt voltage (ΔUф>8V or Δ3U0 >1.5V).

current. ICap is actually measured capacitive current when running normally.

b) Zero sequence current differential protection

In formula: I D0=│(ÌMA+ ÌMB +ÌMC) + (ÌNA+ ÌNB + ÌNC)│ is zero sequence differential current.

sequence current differential protection

In the formula, I0Z is the setting of “I0 C/D” which is set according to sensitivity of internal high
resistance grounding fault;

Usually, grounding fault of line can be reflected correctly by phase current differential while zero
sequence current differential protection only operated as backup protection of grounding fault
through large arc resistance; therefore, tripping with delay time. The delay time can be set
(shortest 100ms). Operation of zero sequence current differential element can be set as permanent
tripping or three phase tripping by control word.

2) Current differential protection of three-side system

Configuration of current differential protection of three-side system is same with two-side system,
only difference is calculation method of differential current and restraining current:

a) Phase current differential protection

ID=│ÌM+ÌN+ÌT│ is for differential current. IB=│ÌM-(ÌN+ÌT)│ is for restraining current.

The formula supposes mode value of current on side M is largest.

b) Zero sequence current differential protection

I D0=│(ÌMA+ ÌMB +ÌMC) + (ÌNA+ ÌNB + ÌNC) + (ÌTA+ ÌTB + ÌTC)│ is for zero sequence differential
current.

IB0 =│(ÌMA+ ÌMB +ÌMC) – 〔 (ÌNA+ ÌNB + ÌNC) + (ÌTA+ ÌTB + ÌTC) 〕│ is for zero sequence restraining
current.

The formula supposes mode value of zero sequence current on side M is largest.

3.3.5 CT related discrimination of current differential protection

1) CT transformation ratio compensation on two sides of the line

When CT transformation ratios on two sides of the line are different, the current on two sides can
be consistent according to “CT COMP Ratio” of setting. For equipment with larger CT primary
rated current, compensation factor is set as 1; compensation factor of other equipments is set as
the largest value of primary rated current divided by CT primary rated current on the side.

2) CT failure detection

CT fail detection please sees following illustration: section 3.15 “failure detection and

-15-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

discrimination”-“CT fail detection”.

3) CT saturation detection

It applies fuzzy recognization to detect CT saturation. When CT saturation is discriminated, the

restraining factor will be increased automatically according to saturation degree.

3.3.6 Connector of current differential protection

Current differential protection can only operate when current differential connectors on both sides
(three sides) are enabled. Connectors on two sides are blocked each other. If connectors’ status on
two sides (three sides) is not consistent, the equipment will report “C/D Connt Err”.

3.3.7 Communication of current differential protection

Synchronization communication of equipments on two sides (three sides) is the key for normal
running of current differential protection. Synchronization of communication of equipment
includes two aspects: sample synchronization and clock synchronization.

3.3.7.1 Clock synchronization of current differential protection

1) CSC-160 series current differential protection can apply following communication modes:

a) Apply fiber channel at speed of 2Mbps.

b) Multi-connection the same direction interface G703 of primary equipment at speed of

64kbps.

c) Multi-connection 2Mbps (E1) interface of secondary equipment at speed of 2Mbps.

2) Illustration of communication clock setting

a) Mode and speed setting of communication clock

The equipment can set clock speed as “2Mbps” or “64kbps” through differential control bit.

The equipment can set clock mode as “Inner_Clock” or “external clock” through differential
control bit.

CSC-163/7A and CSC-163/7B is single channel and sets clock mode and speed of channel A.

CSC-163/7T is dual channels and sets clock modes and speeds of channel A and B respectively.

b) Relevant illustration of communication

When applying dedicated fiber channel, settings of equipment on both sides are set as
“Inner_Clock”, i.e. using Inner_Clock of the equipment to send data and receiving clock is taken
from received data flow. In order to upgrade performance of differential protection, it is suggested
to apply speed of 2Mbps.

When protecting multiplexing PDH digital communication system 2Mbps (E1) interface, settings
of equipment on both sides should be set as “Inner_Clock”.

When protecting multiplexing PDH digital communication system 2Mbps (E1) interface, clock
mode setting of equipment is related with mapping manner of 2Mbps (E1) signal to VC12: when
VC12 applies asynchronous mapping manner, settings of equipment on both sides should be set as

-16-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

“Inner_Clock”; when VC12 applies synchronous mapping manner, settings of equipment on both
sides should be set as “Outer_Clock”. See table 3.

When protection complexing digital communication system with the same direction interface
64kbps PCM, settings of equipment on both sides should be set as “Outer_Clock”. Both applying
system synchronization clock, i.e. both sending clock and receiving clock of data are taken from
received data flow. It demands clocks of primary equipment on both sides should be set according
to requirement shown in table 4, or it will produce periodic sliding poise. When multiplexing the
same direction interface 64kbps, clock of protection should be set as “Slave-Slave” mode.

3.3.7.2 Sample synchronization of current differential protection

Current differential protection can be set as “Master” (1) or “Slave” (0) by control word for
synchronization of protection sample.

Current differential protection on two sides should be set as “Master” on one side while “Slave”
on the other side; for three-side system, it must be set as “Master” on one side while “Slave” on
the other two sides. The setting has nothing to do with channel mode.

Figure 8 Principle of sample synchronization

 Sketch map of sample synchronization please sees figure 8.

-17-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

 Each of the equipment can be set as “Master” or “Slave” in advance.

 In order to ensure synchronization of protection samples on two sides, set as: one side of a
“Slave” sends one frame synchronization requiring command, including sample number;
“Master” returns a frame data after receiving command sent by “Slave”, including sample
number of “Master” and corresponding information, for example, time and so on; after
receiving corresponding data message from “Master”, “Slave” can calculate communication
transmission delay and sample time difference t of the two sides. According to deviation of
sample time, “Slave” can confirm adjustment times. Through several micro-adjustment of
protection on sample time untill t  0 , samples of equipment on two sides fully
synchronize.

 The advantage of this synchronization method, when samples of equipment on both sides
synchronize and differential protection algorithm is finished, only need to unify sample
numbers of equipment on both sides to ensure the correctness of algorithm, without additional
compensation calculation for delay of communication. This is not only simple, but more
important is, the calculation process of differential protection algorithm independent of
communication transmission delay. This means differential equipment perform sample
synchronization by this means can adapt communication system when communication route
changes. The equipment can adapt transmission delay for 18ms caused by changes of
communication route and the synchronizations error is not larger than 1.

3.3.8 Illustration of frame checkout

Frame format of data communication please see table 5.
Table 5

When protection works normally, protection on two sides (three sides) perform data
communication. Protection on receiving side checks received data by CRC redundant circle check
code after receiving a frame of data. When CRC checks that one frame of data is wrong, it will
abandon the frame of data which equals 3ms delay of protection operation. When the received
data is checked correctly by CRC, the frame of data will be effective which is available for
protection calculation.

3.3.9 Remote transmission and remote tripping function of current differential

protection
1) Command of remote transmission

Equipment is equipped an optical isolated DI of “DI_TELE_ANSWER”. With assistance of

digital channel and making use of control word in every frame of data to transmit to opposite, after
receiving remote transmission command, the opposite protection does not trip, but output 2 pairs
of contacts for user to choose flexibly.

2) Remote tripping

-18-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

In order to make opposite protection tripping fast when fault occurs at bus and between
breaker and current transformer, the equipment provides a “DI_TELE_TRIP” DI terminal to
transmit operation signal of protection such as bus differential protection and circuit breaker
failure protection and so on.

When protection startup, the the DI of “DI_TELE_TRIP” is active, send signal to opposite. After
receiving “DI_TELE_TRIP” signal, the opposite will distinguish whether thecondition in setting is
met (startup or distance protection zoen II is in forward direction) and permanent tripping.

3.3.10 Testing method of current differential protection

1) Self-loop testing

Setting “Chan Inf” control bit of the equipment as 1 and setting as “Master” and “Inner_Clock”,
butt joint RX and TX of the equipment by tail fiber, perform single equipment self-loop to
simulate internal fault.

When the equipment is running normally, this function must be disabled.

2) Channel remote loopback test

In order to facilitate user carrying out the whole set of test with channel, the equipment
provides function of remote loopback test with channel.

When the equipment is running normally, this function must be disabled.

After setting differential setting of equipment on both sides according to practical running
situation, placing “channel circle” control bit of equipment on side M on 1, switching
connector in maintenance status on side M, short circuit fault simulation can be performed in
the zone on side M. at this time, equipment N receives sample message from side M and then
transmits it to side M.

3) If there is no connector in maintenance status enabled, 10 minutes later “channel circle”

control bit enabled, the equipment alarms “channel circle long term switching in” and remind
users the equipment is in status of “channel circle”. Then, it can also carry out equipment self-loop
and remote loopback test.

3.4 Pilot Distance and Pilot Zero Sequence Directioanl

CSC-160 pilot protection includes Pilot Distance Phase to Phase, Pilot Distance Phase to Earth,
Pilot Zero Sequence Direction, and Distance polygon characteristic.

CSC-160 pilot protection is applicable for two channel mode: permissive mode and blocking
mode.

3.4.1 Blocking mode

The epuipment can be set as blocking overreach mode, as using dedicated carrier, requiring single
frequency, the work frequency of two side carriers must be same, two side carriers can receive the
blocking signal from local side and opposite sideat the same time.

-19-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3.4.1.1 Equipment send signal

When the protection startup, the contacts of pilot sending-signal closed, and contacts of stop signal
open, the carrier send the blocking signal, if the protection discriminate the fault as internal fault
and forward direction, contacts of sending signal return, and contacts of stop signal closed. If the
fault is discriminated as reverse direction, contacts of sending signal will not return, till the whole
systme reset,

The equipment provides two delay times for confirming the channel signal, one is, each side is
permitted to stop signal till receiving signal for 5ms, two is, after local-side stopping signal, not
receiving the blocking signal for 8ms, the protection can operate.

To prevent the power reverse: to prevent mal-operation for loop power reverse, from reverse
direction to forward direction, to confirm stopping signal after 40ms delay time, after stopping
signal, the protection can trip if not receiving the blocking signal for 20ms.

3.4.1.2 Equipment and Carrier

Equipment provides two modes for cooperating with carrier, remote sending signal logic by relay
and by carrier. The mode can be set by conrol word.

If the remote sending signal is implemented by protection, remote sending signal, other relay
stopping signal, circuit breaker position stopping signal, channel self-checking manually and so on
are implemented by protection, carrier is contected with relay contacts of pilot sending signal,
relay contect contacts of carrier receiving signal output and alarm. Especially note, when the
control contacts of sending signal is opening, the carrier should stop signal immediately, which
need to be set for some type of carrier.

If the remote sending signal is implemented by carrier, carrier connect with the contacts of pilot
sending signal and stopping signal, the protection connect with receiving signal output of carrier.

3.4.1.3 Logic about pilot channel such as remote send signaland so on

When the remote sending signal is implemented by protection, remote sending signal ,other
protection stopping signal, circuit breaker position stopping signal, channel self-checking, channel
manual checking and so on are implemented by protection.

1) Remote startup sending signal

After receiving opposite-side blocking signal, if local-side TWJ not operation, then sending signal
for 10s immediately, if local-side TWJ tripping, then send sending signal with time delay 160ms.
Especially note, if sending signal is implemented by protection, remove the carrier loop of remote
sending signal.

2) Channel test

Channel test manually: kick the channel test key, when the DI of channel checking is active,
local-side send sending signal, local-side stopping signal after 200ms (after opposite-side
protection receiving local-side signal, sending signal for 10s by remote sending signal logic),
local-side protection receiving opposite-side signal till 5s, local-side send a signal for 10s again
and channel test finished.

Channel test periodically: users can select the fixed time everyday to do the channel test

-20-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

automatically by the control word, same as the channel test manually, but only for pilot protection
enabled.

Remote controlling channel check: for the integration automation station, remote controlling
checking for pilot channel can be performed through network.

3) Other protection operation stopping signal

When the DI of “BB/CBF OPTD”is active, relay stop signal immediately, regardless of theactive
time of DI, stopping signal for 160ms and then reture, and work well only when the protection
startup.

4) Circuit breaker position stopping signal

When relay do not startup, the DI of “CB OPEN” is active, after receiving opposite-side signal,
and after stopping signal for 160ms, sending a signal again. If the protectionstartup, three phase
circuit breaker position stopping signal is blocked automatically.

3.4.1.4 Pilot protection alarm

1) Receiving signal DI is active and carrier alarm signal is issued simultaneously, “ Pilot
CHAN 3DB” will be reported;

2) Receiving signal DI is active for a long time, report “Pilot RECV Err”;

3) In the process of channel self-checking, receiving signal has fault, report “Pilot CHAN Err”;

4) Carrier alarm signal is issued, report “Pilot CHAN Alarm”.

3.4.2 Permissive mode

Permissive mode can adopt kinds of channel mode, such as complex carrier channel, microwave
channel, complex fiber channel by photoelectricity transmission equipment and so on. For this
mode, each side protection need to only receive signal from opposite-side protection.

3.4.2.1 Illustration of equipment sending signal

For permissive mode, protection provides output contacts of sending signal, the protection connect
with the receiving signal contacts and removing blocking contacts of communication device.

At the normal running station, each side protection separately send channel monitoring signal to
opposite-side protection. When the fault is discriminated as forward direction and internal fault,
the contacts of protection sending signal closed, channel equipment not sending signal but
permissive signal to permit opposite-side tripping. When the local-side receives opposite-side
permissive signal, and the internal fault is discriminated, start to trip.

The special question of carrier channelpermissive mode is that protection mal-operationresulted

from channel blocking caused by the line fault, “remove blocking” logic maybe solve this problem.
The equipment do not consider the possibility of channel blocking caused by phase to earth fault,
remove blocking only is used for phase to phase fault. Local-side protection discriminate the
internal fault as phase to phase and forward direction, not receiving opposite-side permissive
signal, under the condition remove blocking function is enabled, if the DI of remove blocking is
active, protection trip. Remove blocking only is used for phase to phase fault and enabled after
120ms of protection startup.

-21-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3.4.2.2 Three phase tripping to send signal

Other protection operates to send signal and circuit breaker open to send signal are performed by
protection equipment.

1) Otherprotection operates to send signal

When the DI of other relay operation to stop signal is active, relay sends a permissive signal for
160ms and then return, this work only when protection startup.

2) Circuit breaker opening to send signal

When the protection do not startup and the DI of “CB OPEN”is active, at the same time receiving
permissive signal from opposite-side, send permissive signal for 160ms. After relay startup,
remove three phase tripping to stop signal automatically.

3.4.2.3 Protection equipment alarm

1) If the DI of receiving signal is active for a long time, report “Pilot RECV Err”;

2) Running normally, the DI of “blocking open” is active, report “Pilot Comm Alarm”.

3.4.3 Weak Infeed End (Permissive and blocking mode)

If one side of line is weak source or no source, if the fault occurrence with forward direction at
weak source side, the current at weak source side do not make the protection work correctly, so the
weak infeed end function should be enabled, cleart fault on time by power side tripping signal.

When the weak infeed end function enabled, the equipment can meet the requirement below:

1) Power side protection can trip fast for internal fault, when the protection startup and meet the
condition of the weak infeed end, if the weak infeed end tripping function enabled, the weak side
protection can trip.

2) Applicable for permissive mode or blocking mode, achieve the weak infeed end function.

3.4.3.1 Specification about the operation logic when the weak source side do
notstartup
When the weak source side protection do not startup, weak source side feedback conditions as
below:

1) At least one phase voltage or phase to phase voltage is less than 0.5Un.

2) Having receiving signal (permissive mode or blocking mode).

When meeting above conditions, weak source side protection stop signal (blocking mode) or send
signal (permissive mode), to ensure that power side protection can trip fast for internal fault.

3.4.3.2 Specification about operation logic when the weak source side
protection startup
The conditions of weak source side protection stop signal (blocking mode) or send signal
(permissive mode):

1) At least one phase voltage or phase to phase voltage is less than 0.5Un.

2) Protection does not trip for forward direction and reverse direction.

-22-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3) Having receiving signal (permissive mode or blocking mode).

4) Startup time less than 150ms.

When meeting above conditions, weak source side protection stop signal (blocking mode) or send
signal (permissive mode). If the weak infeed end tripping function enabled, after weak source
sideconfirm the signal, the weak source side protection can trip.

3.4 Distance protection

3.4.1 Phase selector

Three-phase tripping is applied for 110kV and below transmission line. Phase selector of the
equipment is used for distinguish fault condition of actual system and enable the different distance
element to perform the correct tripping and fault location.

When the different type of fault happens in different system, the characteristic of current and
voltage is different. For different characteristic of faults, various phase selection principles is
applied for the equipment to to meet the requirementof different system. At the fault initial stage
after abrupt current element startup, the abrupt current phase selector is applied. If the abrupt
current element does not startup or 20ms later of abrupt current element startup, the symmetric
component phase selector is adopted. When fault happens and characteristic of current is not clear,
combine with low voltage and impedance phase selector.

3.4.2 Distance component

1) Configuration of distance protection

Distance protection of large current grounding system includes three zones of phase to phase
distance protection and three zones of phase to earth distance protection, and distance protection
of small current grounding system includes three zones of phase to phase distance protection.
Enable or disable each zone of distance protection is controlled by distance protection connector.

2) Distance direction element

For the close-in short-circuit or three-phase short circuit, distance protection applies memory
voltage to distinguish the direction (voltage before fault happening shift two cycles to compare
with current after fault happens). For asymmetric fault, distance protection applies negative
sequence direction element to discriminate. Negative sequence direction component please see
figure 9.

3) Distance measurement component

Distance measurement component calculates impedance value of corresponding loop by real time
voltage and real time current. Impedance calculation applies combination of differential equation
and Fourier filter to calculation six kinds of impedances, i.e. ZA, ZB, ZC, ZAB, ZBC and ZCA.

4) Operation characteristics of distance protection

Operation characteristics of distance protection are polygon characteristics (see figure 10), where
independent setting R can meet different requirements of long and short lines, improve the ability
of short line of transition resistance and the ability of long line to avoid overload impedance.
Appropriate selection for upper border and declining angle of polygon can increase the ability of
the protection to avoid overreach in case of external fault.

Figure 10

Setting of small rectangle operateion zone is used to ensure reliability of distance protection
operation when close-in fault happens.

5) Trip selection of distance protection

According to the requirement of system, “Z_PP Trip N_A/R On” and “3rUp Trip N_A/R On” can
be enabled. If phase to phase fault and fault in range of zone III happens, distance protection
issues permanenttripping command to avoid enlarging influence range of fault.

3.4.3 Asymmetric and symmetric fault starting component during power swing
Distance protection zone I and II of the equipment can be selected by control word with power
swing blocking or without power swing blocking. When selecting “with power swing blocking”,
zone I and II are only enabled within 150ms after startup of abrupt current startup element (zone II
is fixed). And later, distance protection zone I and II are enabled by asymmetric and symmetric
fault component.

1) Asymmetric fault component: fault or power swing can be discriminated by characteristic

of zero sequence and negative sequence current. the criterion is:

|I0|>m1|I 1| or |I 2|>m2|I 1|

In order to avoid unwanted operation of protection caused by unbalance output of zero sequence
and negative sequence current when power swing system removed, protection operates with 50ms
delay.

2) Symmetric fault component: discrimination component of impedance change rate (dR/dt).

The protection makes use of some characteristics of three-phase fault appeared in process of
occurrence and development, for instance, impedance do not change after fault happens while
changing gradually in power swing and so on, to discriminate three-phase symmetric fault during
power swing blocking. Three-phase fault operation time and the degree of power swing
characteristic of protection takes on inverse time characteristic.

3.4.4 Transitional fault

In the beginning of single phase to earth fault occurrence, which is not in the range of zone I, after
the time of power swing unblocking (0.15s for the protection), develop to phase to phase fault. At
that time, the common phase to phase distance protection can only depend on zone III to remove
fault or asymmetric fault component and symmetric fault distance component during power swing
blocking, the delay is inevitable. The equipment will calculate and memory fault distance of single
phase grounding in the beginning of fault happens. Later, if later develop to phase to phase fault,
three kinds of phase to phase impedances will be calculated immediately. If any phase impedance
is in zone II and fault distance is close to single phase to earth fault, it will fix the zone II
immediately, therefore, ensures fault clearance mentioned above by d zone II with time delay.

3.4.5 Parallel line successive tripping function (only enable 300ms after
startup)
3.4.5.1 Parallel line successive tripping function with two-side source

It is performed by operation of distance zone III of adjacent line. See figure 11.

M L1 K1 N
AC DL1 DL2 AC

DL3 L2 DL4

Figure 11

Fault beginning with ZIII operation of DL3. When DL2 is opened by instantanous stage tripping, ZIII
of DL3 will return immediately and send an “acceleration signal” to ZII of DL1 at the same time. ZII
of DL1 receives “acceleration signal” and ZII acceleration operation to trip DL1 when the following
acceleration condition is met:

1) Parallel line successive operation connector enabled;

2) In zone ZII of the distance protection;

3) No acceleration signal received at the beginning of fault happen and then receiving
acceleration signal from another line of the same side;

4) The line ZII doesn’t return after a short 20ms delay when it meets condition 2).

3.4.5.2 Successive acceleration function of protection on load end for one side source of parallel line

Side M without power supply, which means load end. When the fault happens at location K, ZIII of
DL3 cannot operate; therefore, it can not meet the conditions of successive acceleration operation
mentioned above. But, the current change monitored by protection on load end before and after
tripping of opposite side DL2 to perform acceleration function. At the beginning of fault
occurrence, current direction of DL3 flows from line to bus, ZIII of DL3 can’t operate; after DL2
trips, the current monitored by protection of DL1 and DL3 will increase abruptly compared to fault
initial stage, according to the following criteria:

1) Parallel line successive acceleration connector enabled; control word bit “double line load
end” enabled;

2) Distance protection of the local side (DL1) in zone ZII ;

3) No acceleration signal is received sent by another line (DL3) of the same side;

4) Phase current increases to above 4 times of initial fault currentwthin 300ms;

5) Another line (DL3) of the same side has current (threshold 0.1In);

6) ZII of the local side meets the conditions mentioned above and doesn’t return with 40ms
delay.

At this time, distance zone II of the local side will accelerate to operate and trip DL1.

-26-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3.4.6 Asymmetric fault successive acceleration function

When asymmetric fault happens, asymmetric fault successive accelaration function can be
performed based on current disappearance of no-fault phase when three-phase tripping of near
fault side. See figure 12.

A B C A B C
DL1 DL2
Ih

AC K2 AC

Figure 12

When asymmetric fault happens on location K2 of the line terminal, no-fault phase flow load
current Ih. After the acceleration protection of side N trips DL2, three-phase tripping DL2, no-fault
phase current Ih is removed. Therefore, protection of side M can apply current disappearance of
non-fault phase of the same side to confirm the CB of opposite breaker tripped to accelerate
operation of distance zone II of the same side to operate and trip DL1.

Conditions of asymmetric fault phase successive acceleration operation are:

1) “Asymmetric successive acceleration” functions in setting enabled;

2) In distance zone II of the same side;

3) Current of one phase changes from with current (larger than 0.16In) when fault happens to
without current (smaller than 0.08In);

4) Distance zone II of the local side meets condition 2) and doesn’t return with short time
delay of 40ms.

At this time, distance zone II of the local side accelerates to operate and trip DL1.

Note: If distance zone II cooperates with distance zone II of next level line, the equipment should
disable the asymmetric fault successive acceleration function.

3.5 Overcurrent protectionafter VT failure

Distance protection will be disabled after VT failure, for the equipment equipped with distance
protection, two stages of overcurrent protection after VT failure is equipped. The protection
without direction and voltage blocking, in which is enabled automatically if the distance
protection connector is enabled after VT failure.

3.6 Earth fault protection

Earth fault protection includes four stages of earth fault protection and one stage of earth fault
acceleration protection (optional). Enable or disable the four stages of earth fault protection is
controlled by earth fault protection connector.

-27-

Operation criterion of zero sequence forward direction components:

18°≤arg(3I0/3U0) ≤180°(figure 13), and 3I0> setting of earth fault stage I, II, III and Ⅳ

Thereinto, direction determination of zero sequence directioncomponent adopts calculated 3I0

(summation of three phase currents) and calculated 3U0 (summation of three phase voltages).
When the calculated 3U0 is smaller than 1.5V, the zero sequence direction component will be
blocked. Operation threshold is based on the comparison of the minimum between {calculated 3I0,
external 3I0} and setting.

According to the requirement of system, “3rUp Trip N_A/R On” can be enabled by control word.
If enabled, earth fault protection stage III and Ⅳ will block reclosing function when operate.

3.7 Overcurrent protection

Overcurrent protection includes three stages of overcurrent protection and one stage of overcurrent
acceleration (optional). Enable or disable three stages of overcurrent protection are controlled by
overcurrent connector.

According to demand of system, you can select “3rUp Trip N_A/R On”. At that time, overcurrent
stage III closes down reclose when operated.

3.7.1 Operation conditions of overcurrent protection

1) Forward direction of overcurrent element (with or without direction can be enabled or
disabled by control word);

2) Overcurrent element meets the voltage condition (with or without voltage blocking can be
enabled or disabled by control word);

3) Overcurrent element meets setting;

4) Overcurrent element time delay elapse.

3.7.2 Overcurrent directioncomponent

Overcurrent direction component is 90°connection mode and starts according to separate phase.
Current protection of each phase is controlled by corresponding direction component. shown in
table 7. Range of operated area is -90°~ 30°( positive based on current lags voltage angle).

3.7.3 Voltage blocking of overcurrent protection

When any Uφφ of UAB, UBC and UCA is lower than the setting of voltage blocking, enable the
blocked current protection stages to ensure no mal-operation happens under the no-fault
condition, for instance, electric machine inverse charge and so on.

3.8 Overload protection

Overload protection and overload tripping can be enabled or disabled by control word.

If overload tripping is not enabled, the protection will alarm according to “overload time” in
setting when overload current is larger than the setting. If overload tripping is enabled, the
protection will alarm overload with 30s and trip according to “overload time” in setting when
overloaded. The overload protection trip permanently and block reclosing function.

In addition, when current is larger than setting of power swing current setting for 30s, overload
alarms.

3.9 Low frequency load shedding

Enable or disable low frequency load shedding function is controlled by low frequency connector.

The component adopts UAB hardware frequency measurement method to calculate frequency,
operation precision reach to 0.02Hz, and the UBC software calculate frequency for monitoring.
Once the inconsistency of frequency measurement of software and hardware is detected, alarm to
remind the engineer with time delay confirmation, and block low frequency load shedding to
guarantee the reliability of low frequency load shedding operation. The operation conditions are as
follows:

1) Frequency < setting of low frequency load shedding;

2) Positive sequence voltage U1 > voltage blocking setting of low frequency load shedding,

-29-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

and negative sequence voltage U2 < 5V;

3) df/dt < slipping difference blocking setting of low frequency loading shedding [distinguish
fault situation, electric machine reverse charge and active power vacancy, if blocked, need
frequency recovery (f > 59.5Hz) to enable low frequency load shedding];

4) Circuit breaker closed (TWJ distinguish) or has current (current of any phase larger than
0.1In, enabled or disabled by control word);

5) Time > max(setting of low frequency load shedding, 100ms).

Low frequency operation when all conditions mentioned above are met and then permanently trip
and block reclosing. VT failure block the component till voltage recovers.

3.10 Low voltage load shedding

Enable or disable of low voltage load shedding is controlled by low voltage load shedding
connector.

Criteria are:

1) Current of any phase (IA, IB and IC) > 0.04In or circuit breaker is in closing status (TWJ
position distinguish);

2) UXX > 30V (all of the three line voltage must meet the condition), and negative sequence
voltage U2 < 5V;

Note: UXX is line voltage. The lower limit of 30V for the consideration that when voltage is lower
than 30%Un (line voltage is 100V), the system is collapsed. And also distinguishes from VT fail.

3) d(UKK)/dt < blocking setting of low voltage load shedding voltage sudden-change;

In the formula: UKK = (|UAB|+|UBC|)/2);

Voltage sudden-change blocking criterion is used to avoid mal-operationof low voltage load
shedding, under conditions such as fast decrease of bus voltage when short-circuit fault happens of
the system or voltage abnormity caused by load feedback and so on.

4) UKK < voltage setting of low voltage load shedding;

Note: UKK = (|UAB|+|UBC|)/2;

5) Time > max (time setting of low voltage load shedding, 100 ms).

Low voltage load sheding operates when all of the conditions mentioned above are met and then
permanently trips and block reclosing. The low voltage load shedding is disabled automatically q
when VT failure.

3.11 Three phase auto-reclosing

Enable or disable three--phase reclosing with one shot function is controlled by reclose connector.

Startup of reclosing: it can be started through protection and inconsistence of circuit breaker

-30-

position.

Reclosing function can only be enabled after “charge” finished to avoid many times reclosing.
One charge counter is set, applying the mode of fast discharge and delay charge. When the
discharge condition is not met, the counter will begin to count with charge time lasting for 15s.
While the discharge condition is met, charge counter resets. After charge of the equipment is
finished, liquid crystal of panel displays “charged”.

Reclosing mode can be selected by control word. Available modes are “No synchronization
check”, “Line without-voltage bus with voltage check”, “Bus without voltage line with voltage
check”, “Line and bus without voltage check”, “Synchronization check” and “Adjacent line with
current check”.

When reclosing with synchronization check, voltage on both sides nneed to be larger than 0.7
times of rated value of corresponding voltage. Angle difference of two sides is within range of
“reclose synchronization angle”.

When reclosing with no-voltage check, “Line without voltage bus with voltage check”, “Bus
without voltage line with voltage check” and “Line and bus without voltage check” can be
combined for using with “or” relation. Threshold of no-voltage is 0.3 times of rated value while
threshold with voltage is 0.7 times of rated value. If both line and bus have voltage, switch to
synchronization check automatically.

When reclosing withsynchronization check or test no-voltage check, the equipment must connect
with line reference voltage Ux. The magnitude and phase of line reference voltage Ux is identified
by protection automatically, without setting by user.

When reclosing with adjacent line with current check: when the line terminalof parallel line is not
equipped with line reference voltage equipment while can not get Ux, the equipment can connect
with one phase current Ix of adjacent line. Adjacent line with current is used as distinguish
condition for reclosing.

3.12 Circuit breaker failure (CBF) startup current element

The circuit breaker failure startup current element can be enabled or disabled by control word.

When current of any phase is larger than the setting of CBF startup current, the CBF startup
current element operates. Contacts of CBF startup current relay and protection operation are
connected in series to start circuit breaker failure protection. Or contact of CBF startup current
relay is used for busbar protection to discriminate dead zone between CT and breaker.

3.13 Inverse time characteristic protection

Only need to set K, R and Iset to perform various types of inverse time characterisitc curves,
including standard inverse time characterisitc, extreme inverse time characterisitc, and very
inverse time characterisitc and so on.

3.14 Slow reclosing function

Reclosing start time is provided, which can be set (longest 6min can be set) for the situation that
when fault tripping to the protected line, protection whole system reset reclosing fails caused by
long time of voltage recovery with small substation on the other side of the system and cannot
meet the voltage requirement of synchronization check and no-voltage check in a short time.

3.15 Abnormity detection and discrimination

Perform the following detection when protection does not startup.

3.15.1 CT failure supervision

1) Zero sequence current of CT failure sideis larger than setting of earth fault protection stage I,
II, III, IVfor 12s while the phase current of CT failure is smaller than 0.06In (In is secondary rated
current). When CT failure is discriminated, block the zero sequence startup element. after 100ms
of zero sequence current return, zero sequence startup element recover to be normal.

2) When differential current of two normal sides is calculated larger than 0.15In for 12s, alarm
to report “differential current for long time”. If the current of CT failure phase is smaller than
0.06In at the same time, it is considered as CT fail.

Block or enable current differential protection can be selected after CT failure.

Logic of differential current for long term is same as CT failure.

3.15.2 VT failure supervision (large current grounding system criterion)

. . .
1) Summation of three phase voltages is not zero and U A  U B U C  7V. It is used to

detect VT failure of one phase or two phases;

2) Voltages of all three phase are smaller than 8V and current of any phase >0.04In or circuit
breaker closed (detect TWJ). It is use to detect voltage failure of three phase.

When conditions above are met, distance protection will be blocked immediately. After
confirmation for 1s, alarm and report “VT fail” or “VT three phase voltage failure”; when voltage
recover to be normal, report “VT recovery to normal” after 10s confirmation and then enable
distance protection.

-32-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

3.15.3 VT failure supervisionof line reference voltage

When the reclosing function enabled and the equipment is set as synchronization check or
no-voltage check mode for reclosing (Line without-voltage bus with voltage check, line with
voltage bus without voltage check, line and bus without voltage check), and, if no CB open DI is
activeor line has current (current of any phase>0.04In), which means the CB is closed. If it is
smaller than 0.3 times rated value of Ux, the system will report “line Ux abnormity” after 10s
confirmation; when the line voltage recover to be normal, VT abnormity signal of the line recover
with 10s delay.

3.15.4 Broken dection of control circuit

When the system runs normally, both TWJ and HWJ do not operate. It will report “control circuit
broken” with 10s delay. Control circuit broken result in reclosing discharging.

3.15.5 Circuit breaker status detection

If three-phase has no current and TWJ oeprate, which is considered that the line is not running.
Enable the manually switch-onto-fault acceleration component; if the line has current but TWJ
operate, it will report “TWJ abnormity” with 10s delay.

3.15.6 3I0 polarity self-supervision

Discriminate whether the polarity of injected 3I0 is connected reversely by comparing the
. . .
amplitude value and phase of calculated 3I0( I A + I B + I C )with injected 3I0.

3.15.7 Self-supervision of current and voltage phase sequence

Compare the phase of three-phase current and voltage when the system without abnormity to
discriminate whether phase sequence is wrong connection.

3.15.8 Self-supervision of protection equeipment

Perform self-supervision of equipment hardware when the system has no abnormity, including
A/D, RAM, EEPROM, ROM and hardware frequency measurement circuit, etc., also including all
hardware circuits, such as digital input, digital output, analog input and so on, as well as online
supervising therelated power supply vlotage.

4) Consider that maybe the power swing occur: can enable the function of “1.5s Z3 SPD On”.

5) Manual closing in distance zone III to prevent unwanted acceleration trip resulted from
impedance into distance zone III caused by inrush current when energizing non-loadedtransformer.

with 200ms time delay, or it will trip with accelerationimmediately.

6) If the impedance lies in distance zone I and II when manual closing, tripping with acceleration.

7) If “A/R SPD Z3 On” is enabled, it is same with illustration 5).

8) When distance protection connector is enabled, if VT failure, it will block distance protection
and enable two stages overcurrent protection after VT failure automatically. After VT recovery,
enable distance protection automatically.

1) Enable or disable reclosing is controlled by reclosing connector.

2) Reclosing is three-phase auto-reclosing. Selcetion mode is controlled by control word.

Available modes are “A/R SYN On”, “A/R L_NV B_V On”, “A/R B_NV L_V On”, “A/R L_NV
B_NV On”, “A/R CUR On” and “A/R NO_CHK On”.

3) When six control words above are all set as 0, equipment defaults as no-check mode.

4) “A/R L_NV B_V On”, “A/R B_NV L_V On” and “A/R L_NV B_NV On” can be
combined to use. When they combines, their relation is logic or. For example, both “A/R B_NV
L_V On” and “A/R L_NV B_V On” are set as 1, it will reclose when “A/R B_NV L_V On” or
“A/R L_NV B_NV On” meets conditions. When both line and bus have voltage, it will switch into
synchronization check mode automatically.

5) When synchronization check or no-voltage check for reclosing, the equipment must be
connected with line reference Ux. The magnitude and phase of line voltage Ux is recognized by
protection automatically, without setting of user. If the the difference of magnitude and phase of
line reference Ux with Ux recognized by protection is large when running, the equipment will
report “Line UX Err”.

equipment and so on are consistent with requirement of order and whether they are consistent and
well equipped with types, names and quantities regulated by packing list.

3) If there is any problem, please contact with manufacturer in time.

-43-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

5 Setting
Setting list of CSC-160 series consists of equipment parameter and protection setting. Definitions
of equipment parameters of CSC-160 series are same. Protection setting contents of different type
equipments are different.

5.1 Setting specification

Setting spcification of CSC-160 series gathers as follow. Please refer to it according to specific
protection configuration and setting list selectively.

And please also refer to above illustration of function and logic diagram.

1) Equipment parameter

a) When “VT Fail Detect Off” is enabled, do not detect VT failure, in runing state it is must be
set as “0” (VT Fail Detect On).

b) For single tripping coil Z1 series, enable the control circuit 1 borken self-detection;

For double tripping coil Z2 series, both of the control circuit 1 broken self-detectionand control
circuit 2 broken self-detection can be enabled.

c) CT ratio: value of current transformer primary side/secondary side in primary power system
is mainly used to calculate distance from fault location to protection installation (type of distance
protection is available). Setting value is 1000 divided by practical CT ratio, for example, if CT
ratio is 800/5, then setting value is 800/(5*1000).

d) VT ratio: the value of voltage transformer primary side/secondary side in primary power
system is mainly used to calculate distance from fault location to protection installation (type of
distance protection is available). Setting value is 1000 divided by practical ratio, for example, if
VT ratio is 110/0.1, then setting value is 1100/1000=1.1.

2) Abrupt current setting

The setting should guarantee the sensitivity of fault phase current under smallest running mode.
Considering that the equipment is equipped with zero sequence or overcurrent startup components,
usually, it is suggested to set as 0.2In.

3) Current differential protection

a) When running normally, “Master” bit selected by differential protection should be 1 for one
end and 0 for other end, i.e. on one end is “Master” and while the other end is “Slave”.

b) When protection applies dedicated optical fiber channel, settings should be set as
“Inner_Clock” and communication speed is suggested to select 2Mbps.

When protection multiplexes digital communication system, setting please refers to relevant
illustration in section 3.3.7.1 current differential clock synchronization.

-44-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

c) “Channel circle” function of differential protection is test function. When running normally,
it must be disabled, i.e. when running normally, corresponding control bits should be set as 0.

d) Setting of phase separate differential protection: it is set larger than 2.5 times of capacitive
current and checked according to the standard that the sensitivity of internal fault occurs in
smallest running mode. Equipment on all sides of line should be set to comply with the same
primary current converting to secondary.

For short line, because the capacitive current of the line is small and sensitivity of differential
protection is high, the setting of phase separate differential protection can be increased properly.

e) Setting of zero sequence differential protection: this setting is set according to avoid the
largest unbalance current when the external fault happens, and guarantee the sensitivity of internal
fault with large arc resistance grounding. Equipment on all sides of line should be set to comply
with the same primary current converting to secondary.

f) Time setting of zero sequence differential protection: it should be longer than 100ms.

g) Setting of phase separate differential protection after CT failure: this setting is set according
to avoid largest load current when normally running. Equipment on all sides of line should be set
to complyi with the same primary current converting to secondary.

Note: if “BLK C/D CT_Fail Off” is selected, if the external fault occur at failure phase
after CT fail, differential protection will operate according to “I_PH C/D CT Fail”
setting. Therefore, it will lose choice! So please set the setting item according to the
demand of system.

h) CT ratio compensation coefficient

CT ratio compensation coefficient is set as largest value of primary rated current divided by
primary rated current of CT on the side.

For example: CT ratio on side M is 1200/1. CT ratio on side N is 800/5 and CT ratio on side T is
600/5. If the compensation coefficient on side M is set to 1, then that on side N is set to
800/1200=0.6667 and that on side T is set to 600/1200=0.5.

4) Pilot distance and pilot zero sequence direction protection

a) In control word, weak infeed endr function and weak infeed end to trip function only can be
used for weak infeed end, not power side.

b) Channel check time mode is XX.XX,if everyday check time is 16:30,so the setting 16.30 can
be set, different check time should be set for different equipment of two side.

c) Pilot distance protection can select “Z2_PP StopSig On” or “Z3_PP StopSig On” for stopping
signal threshold. When the phase to phase or phase to earth fault occur, comparing phase to phase
or phase to earth impendance with stopping signal threshold to discriminate the stopping signal
conditions.

d) Pilot zero sequence protection can select “3I0_2 StopSig On” or“3I0_3 StopSig On” or “3I0_4
StopSig On” for stopping signal threshold.

-45-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

5) Distance protection

a) Resistance setting of phase to phase distance protection

It is used for phase to phase distance zone I, II and III. When phase to phase fault happens, arc
resistance is not too large. So “R_PP” should no be too large.

b) Resistance setting of phase to earth distance protection

It is used for phase to earth distance zone I, II and III. It should be considered comprehensively
according to avoid load impedance and the ability to clear phase to earth fault through large arc
resistance.

c) Please set the reactance setting according to the characteristic of impedance polygon.

When perform the setting calculation, if the XDZ ZZD

setting of phase to earth or phase to phase

distance protection is ZZD, the setting of
direction X of quadrilateral characteristic can
d
be convertedbased on ZZD. See figure 25.
Calculation formula is:
RDZ
Cos d
XDZ=(Sind+ )×|ZZD|
8 Fiugre 25

d in the formula is positive sequence

impedance angle of the line.

d) Zero sequence compensation factor of reactance, resistance

Zero sequence compensation factor of reactance is: Kx=(X0-X1)/(3X1);

Zero sequence compensation factor of resistance is: Kr=(R0-R1) / (3R1).

In the formulas, R1 and X1 present positive sequence resistance and positive sequence reactance of
the line while R0 and X0 present zero sequence resistance and reactance of the line.

e) Setting of power swing current

Setting of spower swing current is set according to avoid largest load with certain tolerance. It is
used to discriminate whether the power swing happens.

6) Earth fault protection

a) If the earth fault protection stage I, II, III and IV is enabled without direction, there is no
influence of VT fail.

b) If “VT_Fail 3I0_1 DIR Off” is selected, when VT fail, earth fault stage I with direction will
switch inot zero sequence overcurrent. Earth fault stage I will trip with time delay of max (time
setting of earth fault stage I, 200ms). Trip and block reclosing.

If “VT_Fail DIR 3I0_1 Off” is selected, when VT fail, earth fault stage I with direction function

-46-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

disabled.

c) If “VT_Fail 3I0_234 DIR Off” is selected, when VT fail, earth fault stage II, III and IV with
direction will switch into zero sequence overcurrent. Earth fault stage II, III and IV will trip
according to corresponding time setting. Trip and block reclosing.

If “VT_Fail DIR 3I0_234 Off” is selected, when VT fail, earth fault stage II, III and IV with
direction function disabled.

d) Considering the demand of unbalance current produced when avoiding breaker closing: no
matter earth fault stage II, III and IV enabled with acceleration, after manual closing, they will
delay at least a fixed 100ms; when “SOTF 3I0_1 DE On” is enabled, earth fault stage I trip with
100ms delay time after manual closing.

7) Overcurrent protection

a) When overcurrent protection stage I, II and III without direction and voltage blocking,
operation will not be influenced by VT failure.

When VT fail, overcurrent protection stage with direction and voltage blocking can switch to
“VT_Fail DIR U_BLK Off” or “VT_Fail DIR U_BLK OC Off” (enabled or disabled by control
word). If overcurrent direction stage selects “VT_Fail DIR U_BLK Off”, after overcurrent
protection triping, it will block reclosing.

b) If the voltage blocking function of overcurrent for some stage is enabled, when any phase to
phase voltage is lower than the setting value, it will enable the stage of overcurrent protection.

8) Overload protection

a) Overload is enabled or disabled by control word. Current setting is set according to avoid
largest load with certain tolerance.

b) If the function of overload tripping is not enabled, alarm with time delay set in setting.

c) If the function of overload tripping is enabled, overload alarm time will be fixed as 30s. It
will trip according to overload time setting.

9) Reclosing function

a) A/R SYN Angle: angle difference between voltage of bus and line for synchronization
check mode.

b) “A/R L_NV B_V On”, “A/R B_NV L_V On” and “A/R L_NV B_NV On” can be
combined to use. When they combines, their relation is logic or.

10) Other function

NoFault Fast Reset On: when load changes frequently (such as electrified railway, large scale
smelting electric cooler and so on), the function can be enabled. Non-fault fast setting reset
function is only applicable for the condition of distance protection without power swing blocking.

11) Security setting

-47-
CSC-160 series numerical line protection equipment Manual

Security settings listed in table means the recommended setting value of corresponding setting
when some function is not in use.

Note:

1) In presents secondary rated value of CT (1A or 5A).

2) “Reactance value per km of line” in protection setting is primary value and other
settings are all set as secondary value.

5.3 Enable or disable illustration of protection function

When current differential protection, distance protection, earth fault protection, overcurrent
protection, parallel line successive operation, low frequency load shedding, low voltage load
shedding or reclosing is not in use, the corresponding connector can be disabled.

Note: CSC-160 series provide two modes of connector, i.e. serial connection of soft and hard
connector mode and hard connector mode (connector on screen), factory default configuration is
serial connection of soft and hard connector mode. If only soft connector needed, then enable the
corresponding hard connector on screen (connect +24V power supply). If only hard connector
needed, enable all corresponding connector or change factory default configuration by project
designer of our company.

Serial connection of soft and hard connector mode can enable or disable the soft connector via
monitoring background system.

Applying serial connection of soft and hard connector mode, the soft connector can be enabled or
disabled in menu OpConnt-OpSoftConnt.

In menu OpConnt-ViewConnt, the engineer can view the enabling situation of connector. The
first list is name of connector. The second is the status of soft connector and the third is status of
whole connector.

When overload protection and fault startup component are not in use, the engineer can set the
control bit which is used to enable or disable the function.

When phase separate differential and zero sequence differential protection is not in use, the
engineer can set the current as 30 In and time as 20s.

When some stage of earth fault or overcurrent protection is not in use, the engineer can set the
current as 30 In and time as 20s.

When some stage of distance protection is not in use, the engineer can set reactance to 0 or the
same with other zones and time to 20s.
