Physical Factors in The Learning Environment Report

The document summarizes observations of a classroom's physical learning environment. It notes that the traditional row seating arrangement makes it difficult for the teacher to see all students and for some students to see presentations. While the classroom is free of congestion, there are few teaching materials and no learning center. However, the teacher effectively reviews past lessons and connects new content to prior knowledge. Procedures and routines are also well-taught, though the seating could be improved to benefit more students.

Physical Factors in the Learning Environment Comment Sheet.

1. The teacher is able to see all students at all times (students’ desks are arranged so
teacher can see everybody from instructional areas).
 Student’s seats are not properly arranged making it impossible for the teacher to
observe all students from instructional areas. The sitting arrangement the teacher
has in her class is the traditional row sitting arrangement.
2. Teaching materials and supplies are readily available (students have direct access to
supplies)
 There was not much material used to teach math or language arts.
 Teaching however engaging material is needed to involve all students’
participation in learning and make lessons attractive and fun.
 Teacher does not have a library nor, a learning center for her class to use.
3. Instructional aids reinforce the content of lessons previously taught and are
effectively displayed for students.
 Before starting a lesson, the teacher performs a quick review of the previous
lessons taught on that specific subject and she also keeps connecting previous
knowledge through her lesson.
4. High-traffic areas are free of congestion (students’ desks are away from cabinets
and other frequently visited areas).
 Even though the class is small for the number of students the teacher managed to
have her high-traffic areas clear however the sitting arrangement is to congest.

5. Students are able to see instructional presentations (students are seated close to the
teacher and instructional activity, the teacher teaches from different areas of the
class, and instructional materials are easily accessible to students)
 Due to the class seating arrangements some students sitting behind the class
cannot properly see the whiteboard or presentations displayed in front of the class.
 Teacher cannot see all students and it was observed that the teacher does not
move around the class, she keeps in the same spot.
6. Procedures and routines are actively taught in the same way that academic content
is taught (classroom routines and procedures are established)
 Teacher keeps encouraging students to follow classroom routines and procedures.
It was observed that students use hand signals to communicate with the teacher,
and when arriving in the class it is done in a mannerly way.

Physical Factors in the Learning Environment Report

Physical factors in the learning environment are important in the development of a

student's education, particularly in primary school. The way a class is set up or how a teacher

delivers a lesson determines whether or not a student develops learning skills. Students will not

be motivated to develop an enthusiasm for learning if a teacher does not provide a well-designed

classroom. A teacher must carefully design the classroom in a way that students will feel

comfortable and safe. The main goal of this observation is to collect important information that

will help me become a better teacher. I was required to complete a checklist of important details

that are expected from a teacher and a classroom setting. During the observation, I noticed that

the teacher has some strengths but also some weaknesses in the classroom physical factors. In

this report, I am going to carefully display all the information obtained after conducting the

observation.

During the observation, I noticed that the classroom seating arrangement is very different

from what I had been taught. According to (Effective Classroom Seating Arrangements2023)

there are many seating arrangements that can be used in a classroom for different activities. The

teacher here uses the traditional seating arrangement, with students seated in rows. This seating

arrangement makes it difficult for the teacher to maintain control over all the students. This

seating arrangement also makes it difficult for students to see or access materials, particularly

those in the back. Due to the seating arrangement, I was able to observe that students from the
back have a difficult time seeing presentations held at the front of the class, yet the teacher is

unable to move around the class and teach from different areas.

Nevertheless, the class is small I was able to observe that the high-traffic areas are free

of congestion making it easier for students to enter or exit the classroom or visit the teacher.

Teaching materials are very important in a classroom; however, in this class, I did not see many

materials being used to supplement lessons, nor did I see learning materials; the teacher does not

have a learning center, and the library is not well stocked with enough books. (Magnuson , 2010)

states that a learning center is very important because here is where students learn in a dynamic

way by taking advantage of all resources provided there. Furthermore, the teacher is well-versed

in the subject matter; she always reviews previous knowledge information before beginning a

new lesson to prepare the students' minds; and, throughout the lesson, she connects previously

taught information. When it comes to procedures and routines, I've noticed that students are

encouraged to stick to proper procedures and routines during class time. I noticed that all

students used hand signals to avoid class distractions, Proper procedures were also observed in

most of the students the entering of the class is done in a mannerly way as well as the completion

of in-class activities.

Finally, this observation has been extremely beneficial to me. Observing another teacher

taught me a lot of things. This observation has also taught me things that I will need to put into

practice when I enter a classroom as a professional. This observation reminds me that when I

teach, I must not only teach but also maintain a high level of classroom behavior. This can be

accomplished through good classroom management, which includes procedures, routines, rules,

and class arrangements, as well as the manner in which a teacher should deliver lessons and

assess students.
