Uninterrupted Power supply (UPS) system is the heart of a data center’s electrical system. It normally
corrects and eliminates nuisance in the electrical sine wave input from the grid. Unfortunately, the power
delivered from the utility isn’t as steady as you’d like it to be. Brief power outage, power sags and power
surges/spikes can cause more than just a hassle-they can cause damage into the IT equipment. UPS can correct
and modify output power from a distorted into perfect like sine wave. Electrical fluctuations, surges and other
electrical turbulence will be absorbed and managed by the said UPS equipment. The UPS and all associated
equipment and components shall be manufactured in accordance with the following applicable standards:
The above-mentioned product standards incorporate relevant compliance clauses with generic IEC and
EN standards for safety (60950), electromagnetic emission and immunity (61000 series) and construction
(60146 series and 60529). For more details, see below: • IEC 61000-3-4
• IEC 61000-4-2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11
• EN60950

A Fan coil unit (FCU) contains a fan which draws the air in a space into the unit then blows it over a
cooling or heating coil. The air comes out of the FCU either cooler or hooter than before, they are used in some
office buildings and typically specified where there are small spaces requiring individual control.
TIM Data center enforces the used of clean agent as a fire suppression system that is environmentally
friendly and doesn’t produce threats in human health. Most used are the FM200 fire suppression system,
which has the advantage of safe for human health and electronic equipment. It discharges gas that uniformly

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) should be considered as essential part of Data Center Security as
handled by Facilities and Security Team. Data Centers are expected to have a ‘very high-security operation’. In
addition to the normal access control and electronic security you would expect in data center, a good CCTV
system can help back up the essential audit trails you need to determine who’s been coming and going of Data
CCTV cameras serve two purposes, it defers unauthorized persons, and it will perform a recording to
establish what has happened and this recording can be viewed as a fact. Recording of CCTV cameras is highly
recommended and ideally takes places on digital recorders to be able to easily archive and eliminate a single
point of failure.
In the world of Data Center, security is the most important infrastructure element outside the server
cabinets and hard drives themselves. Access control is the one thing separating vast amounts of valuable data
from the wrong hands. Therefore, these organizations should be sure to practice the most cutting-edge security
techniques available to foil any would-be thieves. Also, handled by Facilities and Security Team
Data Center Doors can be secured in various ways; key locks – should have proper key management
procedures; Electronics lock – each employee or authorized personnel has a specific RFID Card which is also
being monitored on a certain computer monitoring for the outgoing and incoming individuals. TIM-BRC has
installed 5 Door access control for the ground floor; 5 door access control for the second floor; 9 door access
This procedure applies monthly during no-load testing and with load testing.
3. Check battery terminal voltage (must not be less than 25.5 V DC)
3. Start by pressing the generator ON button. The Generator will crank and run Note: Oil pressure must not
Bear in mind that the ATS will not respond just in case power failure occurs in-line with the testing. Both
controllers must synchronize accordingly meaning they must be in the same operational mode. If your gen-set
controller is in “manual mode” at sudden power fluctuation or power outage, it will not respond to ATS as your
ATS is in “automatic mode”. You still have the UPS to continuously power your loads without interruption
while your gen-set is preparing to supply. In this case you just have to switch the gen-set main circuit breaker
Note: Do not turn it to auto-mode from manual mode while in operation because the engine will stop and recycle
its run again in another operational mode which is auto-mode therefore adding down-time to emergency Power.
a. Engine re-cranking consecutively at shorter interval might damage your engine starter.
d. Frequency must be 60 Hz
e. Voltage – 380 Volts line to line and 230 Volts line to neutral
WARNING! Always check power availability in the ATS control panel before proceeding to avoid
double change-over of power. If normal power returns, wait if the electrical loads are powered up so that you may not
proceed to manual transfer. Don’t forget to switch the Genset panel lock into active position first.
the power setup of UPS system transfers from Battery mode to Normal operating mode.
Note: Once generator Fails to Start, Data center Engineer on-duty must be able to resolve unit issue for
less than 15 minutes. UPS power units can provide back-up power of 15 minutes during full-load capacity. If
not, Electrical System must be transfer to redundant unit to assure continuous operation on Data center
Common issue:
1. Check charger if unplugged: It will take time to full charge if this instance happens, personnel
2. Check Fuel Status: Fuel level must be in normal condition and must have enough capacity to
a. Start Fuel pump to transfer fuel from the common day tank to generator unit fuel tank.
b. Proceed to unit transfer if level is to risk, or issue encountered during refueling generator
tank
3. Check Radiator level: below water level indicates that unit generator has insufficient coolant for
oil system and generator heat transfer for cooling system. Refill “distilled” water.
4. Check Pressure indication: High pressure remarks indicates sludges accumulated on fuel filters
and screens. This warning does not have first level restoration and MUST proceed with generator unit
transfer.
If Unit Fails to stop and auto power transfer is affected, proceed with the manual transfer procedure (2.1.1.2
Generator Manual Power Transfer).
1. Turn-off Generator Circuit Breaker. Isolate generator unit from data center power system
2. Manually press generator stop button. Electrically stop unit operation using control
system button.
3. Manually press Emergency Stop button. The biggest red button on generator control
interface is the unit emergency stop. This procedure is being done if unit doesn’t stop
using soft power. The purpose of this button is to cut all power unit auxiliary control
4. Reset Emergency button. Twist Emergency button to release lock of the switch and
5. Key in generator switch. Generator key is only available on the Data center engineer on
position or setup.
Note: Building and Data center has separate generator units and has its own ATS to be able to supply
power on building electrical system such as common areas (e.g., FCU, Lighting loads, Offices)
1. Open ATS enclosure Panel. Building ATS uses Air circuit Breaker (ACB) on both emergency and normal
side.
2. Press RED button on normal side ACB. This procedure isolates system from the connection of incoming
utility power.
3. Press BLACK button on Emergency side ACB. Allowing power input to be supplied by emergency
generator unit.
Note: Building Generator has only one unit availability. On duty personnel must ensure that it is always
A. Normal: UPS inverters continuously powers the critical AC load. The rectifier/chargers derive power
from the mains AC power supply source converting this to DC power to supply the inverters, while
simultaneously float/boost charging the battery system. Power supplied by the UPS inverters is, to within
B. Battery: Upon failure of the mains AC power supply source, the critical AC load is powered by the
inverter, which gets, without interruption, power from the battery system. There shall be no interruption
in power to the critical load upon failure or restoration of the mains AC power supply source. Upon
power walk-in. Following the short power walk-in period, the rectifier powers the inverter and
simultaneously recharges the battery through the battery converter. This shall be an automatic function
C. Off-Battery or Frequency Converter: When the battery system is taken out of service for maintenance or
the UPS is used as a frequency converter, it is disconnected from the battery converter and inverters by
means of external disconnect breakers. The UPS shall continue to function and meet all of the specified
steady-state performance criteria, except for the power outage back-up time capability.
D. Bypass: If the inverter fails, or the inverter overload capacity is exceeded, or the inverter is manually
turned off by user, and at this time the inverter is synchronous with the bypass, the static transfer switch
shall perform a transfer of the load from the inverter to the bypass source with no interruption in power
to the critical AC load. If the inverter is asynchronous with the bypass, the static switch will perform a
transfer of the load from the inverter to the bypass with interruption in power to critical AC load. This
interruption must be less than 15ms (in 50Hz), or less than 13.33ms (in 60Hz). The static bypass shall
maintenance bypass which can be installed in the Maintenance Bypass Cabinet-MCB). If the UPS needs
to be maintained or repaired, after the inverter is turned off and the load is transferred to bypass, the
internal maintenance bypass or external maintenance bypass can be turned on and the UPS can be shut
F. Parallel: For higher capacity or higher reliability, the UPS outputs (3ph/4w) can be directly paralleled
together; parallel controllers in every UPS automatically share the load. The largest parallel capacity is
up to four times the nominal load of each unit composing the system.
G. Regen Mode: The UPS system shall have the ability to perform self-test for full rated capacity without
using any external load banks. In this mode, UPS rectifier, inverter and static bypass shall be tested up to
full load capacity without any failure. Power consumption in this mode shall only be full load losses of
UPS.
H. Source Share mode: A part of the critical AC load is supplied by the mains AC input, and the remainder
of the critical AC load is supplied by battery. The ratio of the input and the remainder of the critical AC
load are supplied by batteries. This mode is mostly used in generator mode when a smaller generator
UPS shutdown procedure is only allowed upon the approval of the Management and during
Procedure
1. Turn the UPS into Static Bypass Mode by pressing "Inverter Off”
-If the UPS is Liebert UPS the Inverter Off must be pressed simultaneously with the other UPS in the
bank.
Procedure:
4. If the UPS is now on Normal Mode. You can now transfer the loads.
UPS system maintenance is under the service maintenance agreement of Emerson Network Power as (OEM).
Since the full maintenance of the UPS is under OEM, facilities should actively monitor the system metrics as per
informed by UPS interface display. Power management and activities can be seen in the selection screen. Below are
2. Air-conditioning equipment must be 24/7 operational to sustain cooling requirements for UPS.
