Lesson Plan - Math 5

This lesson plan teaches students how to calculate the area of a circle. It reviews finding the circumference of circles with different radii. It presents an example of calculating the area of a tablecloth needed for a round table with a 40 cm radius. Students practice calculating the areas of circles with different radii or diameters. The lesson evaluates students' abilities to calculate circle areas and solve word problems involving finding circle areas using different radii.

Mickey wants to know if the tablecloth that she wants to buy will fit their round table in the dining room.
The table’s radius is 40 cm. What is the area of the tablecloth that will fit the round table?

What is being asked?

How will you find the area when the radius is given?
What should be the area of the tablecloth needed for the round table?

IV. DEEPENING
 Amanda has a circular pond in her yard. What is the area of the pond if its radius is 4 meters.?

 If a circle has a diameter of 10m, what is its area?

. 10m

V. GENERALIZATION
How do you solve for a circle’s area when radius is given? When diameter is given?
VI. APPLICATION
Solve the following problem.
1. Find the area covered by the circular bed with a radius of 90 cm.
2. Emil will photo collage by filling a circular cardboard with pictures. The cardboard has a diameter
of 40 cm. What is the area of the cardboard?
3. The high- and middle-class families both built a circular pool on their vacant lot. The pool radius
of the high-class family is 6 meters and that of the middle class family is 4 meters. Find the area
of the two pool.
