Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 4

I. Lesson Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

● describe the main function of the major organs;

● communicate that the major organs work together to make the body function properly;
● practice habits to maintain a healthy body.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Major Organs of the Human Body

b. Science Idea(s): Importance of Organs - human has are organs, body parts with specific
functions, in your body that do the work needed to keep you alive. Your body's cells
and organs need things like oxygen and nutrients from your food (vitamins, minerals,
carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and water) in order to work properly and to help remove
toxins from your body.

c. Science Process(es): Observation

d. References: S4LT-IIa-b-1

e. Materials: Powerpoint presentation, pictures, ukulele, human organ model

f. Value Integration: Value and take care of their health and body.

III. Instructional Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory activities
1. Drill
a. Greetings:
“Good morning class.” “Good morning ma’am.”

b. Opening Prayer:
“Let’s all stand and start our
prayer.”

“Almighty Father, we praise and (Students are praying.)

thank you for this day. Watch over
us as we go about our works and
studies. Help us in every ways so
that we may become children you
want us to be. Amen.”

“Before you take your seats,

please pick up all the trash under
your chair and arrange your chair
properly.”

c. Checking of attendance:
“Do we have any absentees “None ma’am.”
today?”

2. Review
“Let’s have a short review about our “Sight, Touch, Hearing, Smell, and Taste.”
previous topic, what are the five
senses?”

“Very good!”

“What part of the body do we use to “Nose”

smell?”

“Correct!”

3. Motivation
“ Do you want to hear a song?” “Yes ma’am!”

“Listen carefully to my song and after

that you will have an activity. Do you “Yes ma’am.”
understand?”

(Teacher started playing the ukulele.) (Students are listening to the song.)
B. Science Activity

“I have here a picture and a box. This box

consists of the names of organs.”

“You will pick one name in this box and

paste it on the box that is connected to the
organ that you picked.”

“Do you understand?” “Yes ma’am.”

(Students started the activity.)

C. Discussion

“Now please sit down properly and listen

carefully.”

“Our topic for today is the major organs of

the human body.”
“This is Miley and she will help me to
discuss our topic more interestingly.”

“Major internal organs such as the brain,

heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines,
kidney, bones and muscles keep the body
healthy.

“What will happen if our heart is not

“You will die.”
functioning?”

“How can you say that you will die when “Because our hearts pump blood.”
your heart is not functioning?”

“Correct!”

“Each organ has main functions.”

“This is the brain, the brain is the most

complex organ of the body.”
“This is the heart, the heart is a muscular
organ about the size of your fist.”

“Heart pumps blood throughout the body.”

“Next is the lungs, the lungs are the

respiratory organs that enable us to
breathe through the process of
respiration.”

The primary functions of the lungs are:

“Pulmonary Ventilation, inhalation and

exhalation called breathing.”

“External Respiration exchanges gases

between the lungs and the bloodstream.”

“Internal Respiration exchanges gases

between the bloodstream and body
tissues.”

“This is the liver. It removes toxins

from the body's blood supply,
maintains healthy blood sugar levels,
regulates blood clotting, and performs
hundreds of other vital functions.”
“Next is the stomach. It is a muscular
J-shaped sac just beneath the
diaphragm.”

“The primary function of the stomach

is temporary storage of food, mixing,
and breakdown of food.”

“Intestines are extended from the

stomach to the anus. It has two parts:
the small intestine and large intestine.”

“The main purpose of the intestine is

to digest food. But the intestine is not
only there for digestion: it also
produces various substances that
carry messages to other parts of the
body, and plays an important role in
fighting germs and regulating the
body's water balance.”

“Kidneys are pairs of bean-shaped

organs.”
“It is responsible for the excretion of
the liquid waste(urine) and regulation
of salt and water in the blood.”

“Bones are composed of rigid tissues

that form the skeleton.”

The primary function of bone are:

1. To give shape and support to

the body.
2. Protect the internal organs like
the brain, heart lung, liver, and
reproductive organs.
3. Some of the bones are sites
where blood is produces.
4. Bones with the skeletal muscle
are also responsible for our
movement.
“Muscles are composed of tough
elastic tissues characterized by their
ability to contract.”

The primary function of muscles are:

1. Responsible for movement.

2. Body posture
3. Heat production

“All of the organs are working together

to make our body function properly
and to also maintain a healthy body”.

“I will also share some habits to

maintain a healthy body. I want you to
do this everyday.”

1. Exercise daily
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables
3. Think positive
4. Drink more water
5. Get enough sleep
6. Keep emotional balance
7. Do meditation
“None ma’am.”
“Do you have any questions?”
“None ma’am.”
“Clarifications?”

D. Generalization

“What is the function of the brain?” “Controls all the body activities.”
“Function of heart?”
“Pump blood throughout the body.”
“Pulmonary ventilation, External and
“Function of lungs?” Internal respiration.”

“Removes toxins from the body and

“Function of liver?”
maintains healthy sugar levels.”

“Temporary storage of food, mixing and

“Function of stomach?” breakdown of foods.

“Digest food”
“Function of intestine?”
“Excretion of liquid waste or urine.”
“Function of kidneys?”
“Support the body and protect the organs,
“Function of bones?”
responsible for movement.”

“Function of muscles?” “Body posture, heat production, and also

responsible for movements”

“To make our body function properly.”

“Why are they working together?”
“You'll get sick.”
“Correct! What will happen if one of the
organs is not functioning?”

“Very good or you will have a problem in

your body and health.
