—REVISION NOTICE—
This revision introduces the new and improved test Kit
FT51010-100 and replaces all previous issues which must be
discarded.
Purpose:
To announce the availability of the new and improved Turbine Package Electrical System Test Kit
FT51010-100.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Accurate calibration of the control system is one of the most cost effective maintenance procedures
you can perform on your gas turbine packages. Solar Turbines Incorporated now offers a new and
improved portable electrical system test kit to make these testing procedures easier, faster and more
accurate than previously possible. Using Solar’s proven FT51010-100 test kit ( Figure 1), equip-
ment can be kept at peak efficiency, with extended life and reduced operating costs. Notwithstand-
ing its impressive capabilities, this new and improved test kit is one-fifth the size and one-fourth
the weight of the conventional instruments it replaces. At the same time, its rugged construction
tolerates rough handling while retaining laboratory instrument accuracy. The test kit is designed to
Test Kit
The FT51010-100 kit is comprised of 3 key, state-of-the-art, hand held instruments: (1) a Docu-
menting Process Calibrator, P/N 51010-1, (2) a Signal Source and Calibrator, P/N 51011-100, and
(3) a Relay Counter, P/N 51012-100. The complete kit also includes a power supply/battery pack, a
cable kit, pressure modules and other accessories housed in a rugged, reusable shipping container.
The Documenting Process Calibrator provides highly stable and accurate signal sourcing and mea-
surements under the harshest field conditions. It can be used to measure any parameter in the tur-
bine system including DCV, DCA, pressure and temperature. In addition, it can be used to stimulate
DCV, DCmA, resistance and thermocouples.
The Signal Source and Calibrator can be used to stimulate as many as 7 inputs simultaneously,
such as frequency (sine or square wave), DCV or current. These inputs can be changed instantly
to simulate turbine speed control and vibration monitoring systems, and measure any parameter in
the turbine control system. The Relay Counter permits rapid checkout and accurate setting of all
relay timers, both solid state and pneumatic.
Advanced Features
This turbine package electrical system test kit can perform the functions of many instruments such
as a digital thermometer, a thermometer calibrator, 2 audio frequency function generators, a pres-
sure meter, a frequency counter, 3 voltage sources, up to 5 DC current sources, a digital multimeter
and relay timer calibrator.
Although designed to troubleshoot and calibrate control systems on Solar gas turbine packages, it
also can be used on other gas turbine packages. The test kit is powered by a portable power supply
(included) that converts AC power to 12 volts DC. The kit also contains rechargeable battery packs
that allow operation when no other power is available.
Testing Capabilities
Solar’s FT51010-100 test kit simulates all turbine sensory inputs to the control system. Even when
the turbine is shut down, the testers can start, operate and shut down the control system to allow
calibration during simulated operating conditions. When the turbine is running, the testers can ver-
ify the functional operation of all control system components.
The test kit performs the calibration by simultaneously providing frequency signals to the gas pro-
ducer and power turbine speed control boxes, and temperature signals to the temperature control
box. It also displays the voltage output of the main fuel actuator control, which becomes the basis
for the turbine speed and temperature topping adjustments. All signals and measurements can be
read easily from the big LCD display at the top of each instrument for quick and precise adjustment.
