Reported Speech

Reported speech is used to mention something that another person said or that was heard from someone else. When using reported speech, the tenses of the original direct speech need to be changed depending on the tense. For example, present simple would change to past tense, present continuous to past continuous, and future with "will" would change to "would" plus the verb. Verbs like "said" and "told" can be used to introduce reported speech, with "said" followed by "that" and "told" followed by an object pronoun. Other verbs like "describe" or "explain" can also introduce reported speech. Time expressions may need to be changed as well, and the subject should be changed to remember

explain, mention, recommend, report, speculate, state or suggest.

Also, according to the sentence, you can use time expressions as Tonight, that night, yesterday,
the day before, etc.
