PHYSICAL SELF
Refers to the body
The concrete and tangible part of your “self” that can be directly seen and examined You are identified as “you” because of your physical characteristics They are unique to you ONLY and no others
PRACTICES TO KEEP YOURSELVES PHYSICALLY FIT, YOUTHFUL
AND NATURALLY GLOWING: Children would need guidance from their significant others to realize that they should not only be concerned of their physical self, as they should value a much higher goal that lasts and that is, the formation of their positive self-identity, self-image, self-concept and self-esteem.
1. Self-identity
- How you are known
- Adi an imo name, status, profession, place of origin, school, where you reside, etc. That is your personal self-identity.
2. Self-image
- Idea about your abilities, appearance, and
personality - As you stand before the mirror, what do you see? What are your skills? All these tells your self- image. The idea that you have about yourself.
3. Self-concept
- Collection of an individual’s thoughts, feelings, and
beliefs - Active, dynamic, and adaptive. - Kung ano tingin mo sa imo sarili. And also an response san other people about you. Like you can say Jungkook is a caring and accommodating person. That is his self-concept. - Your self-concept may change because of your experiences. Can be your trauma, the environment you are in, an imo beliefs that changed overtime due to a certain circumstance. What you hear from other people, and their influence too contributes to the formation of self-concept.
4. Self-esteem
- How much you appreciate, value, and like yourself
- If your attitude towards your physical self is positive, then your self-esteem is positive. People with high self-esteem can establish better work relationship than those with low self-esteem.
FACTORS AFFECTING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
1. Heredity
It influences all aspects of physical appearance such as height,
body structures, color of the eye, hair, intelligence, diseases, and etc. These genetic factors can adversely affect the growth of the child.
Also, there are two biological factors that contribute to a child’s
growth and development.
a. Nutrition - Prior to birth, an diet and overall health san
mother plays a role in the child’s development. Kung nainom liquor or alak an babae habang buntis, it may affect the development of her child. b. Gender - It plays a factor in cognitive maturation (growth of a child’s ability to think and reason) in that boys tend to develop and learn differently from girls. Research suggests that boys have lower level of school readiness than girls. Boys can also be physically stronger than girls
2. Intelligence
When you feel certain emotions, you do your best to understand
and explain it. You are aware of how your actions and emotions impact not only yourself, but, other people as well.
Like for example an trend sadto na nagmahal, nasaktan, gumanda.
That specific feeling na nasaktan nagtrigger sa imo brain na mag-make a move. Iton na gumanda. It contributes to your self-development.
Diri siya an smart or matalino academically. Intelligence is your
awareness about your own feelings tas you are able to explain or makaka-isip ka move to address your feelings.
3. Environment
a. Geographical influence - Living in a healthy and loving
community plays a role in a child’s overall attitude and personality. They will further grow up as a loving, good, and nurturing people. Unlike if as a child they were exposed with violence and chaos. b. The parent’s socio-economic status - No matter how often we say that we are all equal. Mayaman man o mahirap, still no doubt that the parent’s socio-economic status determines many things about the child’s early development. A child who is born with a golden spoon on his mouth and opportunities presented on his feet is far different from a child who is forced to work his ass off at an early age to survive impacts his later success or failure in life. c. Accidents and incidents that children experienced may also affect their physical development. Kids that have been exposed to repeated trauma could become hypersensitive to physical contact. You can notice them flinch or cry even if mag-attempt ka la na hawakan sira or magharani ka. Physical and sexual abuse could lead to many physical health problems. Such experiences may affect their beliefs, growth and development.
