Introduction 1
This manual describes how to set up the POSPac™ MMS Geoid Converter Tool software.
About the POSPac MMS Geoid Converter
Tool software
The Geoid Converter software is used to convert ASCII Geoid files to Binary Geoid files in Applanix
DAT format. The manual is an important part of the system. It should remain with the system for use
by those who operate and maintain it.

Starting the Geoid Converter
To start the Geoid Converter software:
1. In the POSPac MMS software, select Tools / Geoid Converter:

1. In the File field, specify the input file to be converted. Click to browse for the required file.
The following dialog appears:
2. From the Files of Type list, select the appropriate extension. There are two format types for the
input of an ASCII file:
Option Description
Text file This file consists of three columns, Latitude, Longitude, and Height, which are
separated by spaces or comma. To set the order of these columns, see Step 9.
This input text file is the same format as the one accepted by the POSGNSS
Makegeoid.exe utility.
NGS ASCII Files These files can be downloaded from
www.ngs.noaa.gov/PC_PROD/GEOID03/index.shtml. When the NGS ASCII file is
loaded, some of the options in the converter become unavailable.
3. In the Datum field, add a name that sufficiently describes the datum of your project. The name is
added to the header of the converted file.
4. In the Geoid Name field, add a name that describes your Geoid file.
5. In the Country field, add the country name of your project. The country name is added to the
header of the converted file.
6. In the Skip lines field, specify the number of lines to skip at the beginning of the file.
7. In the Latitude group, select one of the following options:
Option Description
Positive North Positive sign is for north readings.
Positive South Positive sign is for south readings.

8. In the Longitude group, select one of the following options:
Option Description
Positive East Positive sign is for east readings.
Positive West Positive sign is for west readings.
9. In the Columns field, select how you want the data to be ordered. The options are Latitude,
Longitude, and Height.
10. In the Folder field, select where you want to save the converted file. By default, the geoid files
are saved to C:\ProgramData\Applanix\Geoids.
11. Click Convert. The status bar shows the conversion status of the file:
12. Once the file has been converted, click Close to return to the POSPac MMS software.

Converted files
The conversion process generates two files:
• JPG file – This file is a color‐coded photograph that represents the Geoid:
It is named Geoid_<Geoid name>.jpg, for example, Geoid_Test.jpg, and is stored in the Output
folder that you specified.
• Geoid File –This DAT file is a binary Geoid file converted from the input ASCII one. It is named
Geoid_<Geoid name>.dat, for example, Geoid_Test.dat, and is stored in the Output folder that
you specified.
