Work Experience:
Took on small automation and design projects from various clients of the company. This included an
automation fixture for a concrete packing and stamping process; Automation fixture and machine design for a
fabric folding and strapping application using a Cobot (collaborative robot arm); Designing tooling for
spinforming lathe machines; Designing sanitary station with 6 conveyor toilets.
• Used Solidworks and NX 12 for parametric modelling of components of automation fixtures and machines
placed in assembly layouts to allow customer to easily review and edit sizes as desired.
• Designed an entire custom strapping machine for a unique PVA strapping configuration using stepper motors,
pneumatic clamps, and cylinders. Coupled with a large automation fixture using a Cobot and pneumatic clamps
fold a fabric in a specific orientation.
• Designed precision tooling for CNC spinforming lathes that utilize hydraulic actuation and various bearing
configurations to allow metal forming with rotary tools.
Designed, consulted, and prototyped a Cannabis harvesting machine. Working together with a programmer
and a project manager, I was the lead designer who was brought in to quickly design a concept and bring it to
life. The design was a tabletop machine for carefully and quickly debudding delicate Cannabis flowers for the
purpose of automating the harvesting workflow while maintaining high quality buds.
• Used hand sketches and Solidworks to design and test 3D printed concepts. After proving concepts, detailed
design and machine drawings were completed to prototype the machine.
• Extensive work with GD&T precision fits for quick-change roller mechanism and mechanical iris mechanism
with well thought-out manufacturability using lasercut parts, off-the-shelf components, and some precision
machining.
• Sourced capacitive sensors, strain gauges, force sensitive ink sensors, and PCB manufacturers for building a
sensor board to detect and pressure-map various part of the Cannabis plant.
• Designed the machine for cleanability using stainless steel, brass, PVD coated materials, food grade silicone,
and polypropylene plastic.
• Designed quick and ergonomic changeability mechanisms using bayonet mount which included moving
electrical connections. Roller quick-change mechanism used sleek sliding mechanisms which included plunger
locks and precision sliding fits to lock rollers in place or unlock and remove them.
• Sourcing for parts and manufacturers in local regions to produce locally made prototype.
• Drafting standards and templates were created for the company based on German DIN ISO standards.
Worked on a large EPC project for a critical medical application in the nuclear industry. Project involved design
for retrofitting the application onto CANDU reactors.
• Completed preparations and/or approvals of design documentation, technical specifications, applicable codes
& standards, engineering change orders, requisitions, and weld procedures.
• Extensive work with CSA W59, W47.1, ASME III, ASME V, ASME IX, AWS D1.6, and other associated standards.
• Reviewed weld procedures, Liquid Penetrant Inspections, Ultrasonic Inspections, Visual Inspections, welder
qualification tickets, PQR, WPS, and WPQ.
• 3D modelling with Autodesk Inventor for purposes of concepting and stress analysis.
• Ensured designs comply with applicable company, technical, and regulatory standards.
• Adhered to on-time/on-budget criteria associated with project commitments and customer success.
Heavy machinery design for copper mining automation. Design work using Solidworks on different machines
for a copper and cathode processing line. Mechanical design on copper stripping machine, transfer cars,
copper/cathode wash, corrugated press, and with a main focus on copper sampling station. This included a
punch press, with a custom indexing table punching samples through copper sheets.
• Involved pneumatics, frame design, safe guarding, chain drive with SEW motor, conveyor system, and
structural analysis.
• Meticulous measurements, design, ANSI geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) were on point,
resulting in a smooth assembly of the sampling machine.
• My work included the standard BOM, OEM selection, FEA, bending analysis, sourcing, and lifting strap
drawings for shipping. I was also doing R&D for processes and new machines for the copper mining industry,
building and testing mechanisms for approval of project kick-off.
Using Solidworks to design & detail machines, weld fixtures, assembly stations, and tooling used in automated
GMAW and spot welding for automotive assembly lines.
• Bill of Materials, cycle time charts, OEM selection for pneumatics, ANSI Dimensioning, and GD&T.
Given only a conceptual idea, I developed a plastic injection molded product that assembles with snap-fit joints
and connects to any standard 5-gallon bucket for the purpose of increasing the yield of Cannabis with the
'screen of green' growing method. This growing method is known to increase yield at the cost of plant mobility
and accessibility. The product I have developed, rectifies those challenges.
• Designed to be easily plastic injection moulded with polyethylene plastic. 3D printed the prototype with
market-ready precision where the design was then filed for patent.
• Developed marketing and business plan, cost projections, BOM, and coordinated with suppliers,
manufacturers, and investors.
Using pre-existing blueprints and machine drawings, I designed a custom CNC spinforming lathe. Mechanical
production of headstock, spindle, pulley drive, frame, slides, and tooling were resulted from careful methodical
designing. Machining, fabrication, and welding drawings were all made for the manufacture process.
• Extensive ASME GD&T with high precision fits as well as complete BOMs while contacting a plethora of
suppliers for bearings, bushings, belt drives, motors, hydraulics, etc.
• Extensive work with bearings and spindle designs, machine frame design, pulley drive design, machine
lubrication systems, gearbox design, linear motion rails, lubrication systems, tool changers, precision
fabrications & assembly, coupling mechanisms, and safety guarding.
• Advanced hydraulic calculations for cylinder selections and hydraulic circuits. FEA, stress analysis, and safety
guarding were also done for the machines. Spare parts lists made for every project.
• Heavily took on project management with mechanical design. Communicating with the machinists, project
timelines, drafting machine drawings and welding drawings, and communicating with customers.
• Implemented protocols for increasing efficiency of builds & reducing company mistakes, saving time &
money.
Designed & commissioned a steel drum crushing machine. Completed every detail of this project including CSA
inspection, product liability insurance, user manual, FMEA, FEA, assembly manual, advertisement brochure, bill
of materials, profit-expense analysis, and shipping oversea from China to Canada.
• The machine uses a hydraulic press to crush standard 55-gallon steel drums (or smaller) with 65,000 lbs of
force. Stress analysis was used to find optimal dimensions of the machine frame to maintain an economic cost
while withholding the hydraulic force with a 2.5 safety factor.
• Built a relationship with a reputable hydraulics manufacturer in China to help build and ship the first
commissioned product to the customer.
