Cse 209 Final

This document is a past exam for a Data Communication course taken by a student with an ID ending in X1. The exam contains 4 questions assessing different course outcomes. Question 1 involves error detection using CRC encoding/decoding and minimizing crosstalk in twisted pair cables. Question 2 covers synchronous TDM multiplexing and representing data using ASK, FSK, and PSK modulation. Question 3 discusses the differences between FHSS and DSSS and synchronous vs asynchronous transmission. Question 4 asks about issues with duplicate routing table entries and error detection limits in 2D parity codes.

Final Examination: Summer 2021
Course Code: CSE 209 │Course Title: Data Communication
Intake: 43th, Shift: Day

Marks – 40
[Answer all the questions]
CO2 1. (a) A sender wants to transmit data using CRC error detection and correction techniques. Now, Find [5]
the Code-word bits for CRC Encoder and Decoder. Assume, X1 is the last digit of your student ID.

Data-word:(6X1)16 Divisor: 𝑋 3 + 𝑋 + 1 Augmented Data-word : 000

[Hints: Convert Data word in binary and wrapped into 4 bits data]

(b) How the crosstalk is minimized in case of twisted-pair cable? Explain with proper diagram. [5]

CO2 2. (a) In Synchronous TDM, four 1X1X20 bps connections are multiplexed together. A unit is 1 bit. [5]
Here, X1X2 denotes last two digits of your ID. Now, find the followings.

i. The duration of 1 bit before multiplexing

ii. The transmission rate of the common link
iii. The duration of a time slot

The duration of a frame.

(b) Show ASK, FSK and PSK with necessary diagrams for the data (X+1*10)10 [X represents [5]
last digits of your ID].

CO3 3. (a) “Frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) is better than the direct sequence spread spectrum [5]
(DSSS) at high-frequency as well as higher-bit-rate”. Is the statement true or false? Clarify your
opinion.

(b) A station wants to transmit 10 X1X2 characters in which each character is encoded as 8 bits. Here, [5]
X1X2 denotes last two digits of your ID.

i. Find the number of transmitted bits for synchronous transmission.

ii. Find the number of transmitted bits for asynchronous transmission.
iii. Analyze which one is best and why?

CO4 4. (a) Suppose, a routing table in a datagram network have two entries with the same [5]
destination address. If, you want to send a data using this routing table, will you face
any problem? Justify your answer

(b) Justify- why four errors can not be detected in two dimensional parity check code with proper [5]
example and explanation.
