Integrated Distribution Transformer Test System
Integrated Distribution Transformer Test System
Integrated Distribution Transformer Test System
INTRODUCTION
IDTS – Integrated Distribution Transformer Test system is specifically designed to test distribution
transformers with two primary objectives; to increase the testing throughput and to make very precise
routine test measurements. Fully automated test system minimizes the need for changing the test
connections for different tests and different transformer ratings. This eliminates manual intervention,
avoids human error and minimizes test duration. IDTS system is designed with user friendly software,
equipped to conduct tests with a single mouse click after completing the test connections.
FEATURES
Integrates all routine tests within a common platform
Highly accurate measurements
Short throughput times due to elimination of multiple instrument transformer re-wiring
Remote range selection and computer aided processing
High operating convenience reduces the learning process and minimizes the faulty operations
Intuitive windows operating software helps getting familiar with the system very fast
Assured documentation quality with precise test report

Main Components of IDTS
SFC is specifically designed for testing of distribution transformers as it provides variable output voltage
& user selectable frequency between 50-200 Hz. SFC equipped with customized and highly efficient
control & software along with sine filtration circuitry, provides high power quality output by eliminating
high frequency distortions produced by fast switching semi-conductors (IGBTs).
SFC is based on AC-DC conversion using Rectifiers and DC-AC conversion using high speed IGBT based
technology with special filter technology. The power electronics including IGBT gate drivers is housed in
forced air-cooled cabinet. SFC allows single phase testing without changing its connection and allows
independent setting of voltage and frequency in both single and three phase modes.
IDTS involves 3 phase step up transformer with high frequency screens between core & LV winding and
LV & HV winding to eliminate high frequency noise coupling and is designed for use with wide supply
frequency range between 50 – 200 Hz. This is designed for use at low flux density and low impedance with
multiple off-load taps on HV side depending upon the range of transformers to be tested.
The capacitor bank is designed for use on the LV side of step-up test transformer whose kVAr rating is
automatically selected using isolating contactors arrangement. The kVAr rating is so selected that it
provides maximum flexibility, desired power at desired voltage rating with minimum differential power
that is required to be fed from SFC and is adequately protected against unbalanced currents as well.
The measurement of losses in transformer is an indispensable quality verification process. Using proven
state of the art current comparator technology and standard voltage dividers, TLM series of transformer
loss measurement system is designed to meet the needs of distribution transformer manufacturers by
providing very precise and accurate power loss measurement systems.
TLMS offers an exceptional operating convenience as all measuring procedures are software supported.
Time is saved because the precision high voltage current comparator and standard voltage divider requires
no manual range selection thus risk of selecting wrong voltage or current range is eliminated.
Options:
IDTS provides the option of conducting PD Test on dry type distribution transformer by adding the PD
Filter to the SFC and HV Filter on the HV side of the step-up test transformer. Since the acceptance level
of the PD for dry type transformer is low, user will additionally require the RF Shielded room and
engineering package from KVTEK which will provide details on how to do the earthing of the test lab, how
to isolate the test area from rest of the factory and how to provide power isolation for the PD test lab.
