GENMATH

This document contains a learning activity sheet for an exponential functions lesson in mathematics. It includes an introduction to exponential functions which have the form f(x)=bx where b is the base and x is the exponent. The objective is for students to understand key concepts of exponential functions through writing, modeling, and visualizing using precise mathematical language. The lesson contains activities for students to classify examples as exponential functions, equations, or inequalities. It also contains activities for students to solve exponential equations and inequalities. The document provides keys to correct the activities.

EXPONENTIAL FUNCTIONS

NAME:

GRADE & SECTION:

TEACHER:
I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
In addition to linear, quadratic, rational, and radical functions, there are
exponential functions. Exponential functions have the form (𝑥) = 𝑏𝑥, where 𝑏 > 0
and 𝑏 ≠ 1. Just as in any exponential expression, b is called the base and x is called
the exponent.
Exponential functions occur in various real world situations. Exponential
functions are used to model real-life situations such as population growth,
radioactive decay, carbon dating, growth of an epidemic, loan interest rates, and
investments.
II. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
Understand the key concepts of exponential functions and communicate
mathematics through writing, modeling, and visualizing, using precise
mathematical language and symbolic notation.

LESSON 1. Introduction to Exponential Functions

LESSON 2. Exponential Functions, Equations and
Inequalities

An exponential equation or inequality can be solved for all x values that satisfy the equation or
inequality. An exponential is not ‘solved’ rather, it expresses the relationship between two
variables (such as x and y), and can be represented by a table of values or a graph.

ACTIVITY 1: CLASSIFY ME!

Direction: In your answer sheet, determine whether each given is an exponential function,
exponential equation or exponential inequality or none of these.
LESSON 3. Solving Exponential Equations and
Inequality
ACTIVITY 2. SOLVE ME!
Direction: Solve and show your solutions.

1. 3𝑥+1 > 3

2
2. 9𝑥 = 3𝑥+3

ACTIVITY 3. SOLVE ME 2.0!

Direction: Solve and show your solutions

NOTE: (EXCLUSIVE for STEM, GAS 1, HUMSS 1 and ABM 1, and OPTIONAL to
other sections.
KEY TO CORRECTION
ACTIVITY 1.
a. None of these
b. Exponential function
c. Exponential function
d. Exponential equation
e. Exponential Inequality
ACTIVITY 2.
1. X > 3
3
2. X=1 or X=
2

ACTIVITY 3.
1. 1≤𝑥
