Section 1: Overview
Introduction
Information is a key asset of all businesses. To achieve a sustainable competitive
advantage, utilities must be able to adapt quickly to change. Reduced time to
decision and action is critical for improving quality and productivity. This makes the
timely collection, transformation and distribution of reliable information a significant
issue. In today's business environment, one of the barriers to increased
productivity is aggregating data from a myriad of disparate sources, transforming it
into meaningful information, and presenting it to operations, maintenance,
engineering, and management in the context most meaningful to them. Information
Management functions are inherent to ABB's Industrial IT 800xA system.
Historical, process and business data is collected from available sources and
stored securely. The data is transformed into meaningful information, which is
presented to each decision maker in a manner that is easy to understand. This
provides support at every level in the organization to improve efficiency and
profitability.
Power Generation Information Manager (PGIM) offers a company-wide
architecture that performs these functions:
• Collecting, archiving and consolidating data from production facilities,
control systems, and commercial systems.
• Conducting remote diagnostics on numerous plant components.
• Visualizing and analyzing process parameters with a convenient user
interface.
• Making data available to other evaluating applications (e.g. for performance
calculation, operation schedule optimization, EXCEL reporting).
• Delivering process parameters, status variables and counter readings to
maintenance and financial systems.
PGIM is a product of ABB's IndustrialIT family, integrated in System 800xA and
designed for long-term protection of asset investment.

Architecture
PGIM Scanners collect process data from lower-level control systems, PLCs, or
other recording systems. The PGIM Server receives the data and stores detailed
information, such as Signal descriptions, current and historical values, event
messages. All this is accomplished on a millisecond basis over a period of several
years.
The PGIM Clients (Full and Thin) provide an advanced user interface. Clients
retrieve process data from databases, and then offer comprehensive functions for
evaluating process status information.
PGIM provides a flexible and scalable structure suitable for building any type of
solution; from single computer configurations to large-scale, distributed cross-plant
systems.
Clients can transparently connect to any connected PGIM server. Protection and
access rights are formulated in an access protection concept, which defines
several access levels and signal-specific rights. The system is fail-safe thanks to a
redundant design (incl. automatic synchronization) and with buffered control
system connections (backfill).

PGIM Scanners
The flexible architecture of the PGIM System allows for decentralized data
acquisition from a variety of instruments. In PGIM these instruments are called
scanners.
Preprocessing of data can take place in the scanners to implement counters on
quantity, operating hours and switching cycles. The scanners become powerful

Page 8 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361

data validation tools. You can compare values to preset limits, and then generate
messages to show errors and obtain the correct values.
The scanners are equipped with temporary storage buffers where data can be
stored when connections to the server are interrupted. In this way you can avoid
the loss of data when events like network problems occur. This mechanism allows
for the decentralized distribution of separate scanner computers.
High-capacity scanners are available for various control systems:
• ABB System 800xA with Integrated PGIM
• ABB AC800M/F (OPC)
• ABB Operate IT Process Portal (OPC)
• ABB Symphony (Melody, Harmony Infi90, Maestro-UX, Maestro-NT)
• ABB PROCONTROL P14
• ABB Freelance 2000 (OPC)
• ABB Contronik E, Contronik 3, Contronik P
• ABB Sattline (OPC)
• ABB MB300 Advant / Master (OPC)
• S5, S7, WinCC, Teleperm M, ME, MEA, XP
• Intellution iFIX
• Generic OPC Client
• Modbus and Modbus TCP (Master and Slave)
• GE Mark IV / Mark V / Mark VI
• IEC60870-5-104
• SQL/OPC HDA Scanner
• ACPLT/KS.
• ASCII-Data.
The Generic OPC scanner allows coupling to all control and acquisition systems
that utilize an OPC server. OPC is the industry standard for system coupling, and
most systems can utilize OPC. Additional scanners can be added at any time in
new locations.
All the necessary information (signal name, long text, measuring ranges, and
dimension) is either retrieved online or obtained by an export from the control
system. Configuration of the data is an easy drag-and-drop operation using the
PGIM SignalExplorer.
800xA Systems are connected with the PGIM integration package which
completely automates the configuration of the scanners and servers from the
800xA aspect system. No manual configuration as described above is necessary in
this setup. This easy to use solution can be used to connect any control system
which exists as a connectivity server package in 800xA.

PGIM Server
The central element of PGIM is the server. All relevant data is stored here such as
signal descriptions, current process data (real-time data), historical process data
(long-term storage) and event messages (Alarm & Events).
If data access/reliability demands are heavy, the server can be equipped with
redundant hard disk systems (RAID), or the server can be designed as a
redundant database.
PGIM is equipped with patent pending “Aggregate Caches” that allows data access
in a superior fast way where regardless from the time period a history access never
takes longer than about one second without loosing any information that was in the
original raw data.
All process data is stored with the acquisition time (milliseconds resolution!), the
physical value and detailed status information. The status information is retrieved
from the lower-level systems and also generated within PGIM.
The storage of values is conducted according to a field-proven tolerance-band
procedure. PGIM will always store raw values. For fast and dynamic processes the
tolerance-band storage method is a much more efficient method when compared
to equidistance storage methods.
The data stored in this way may additionally be compressed whenever necessary.
For data compression several different methods are available (min., max., average
value).
The PGIM database also allows you to input/collect future values. This data can be
used for fore-casting (e.g., load forecast for applications optimization Unit
Commitment).
In addition, the database offers the ability to add particular signal attributes (e.g.
cost center, mounting position). These attributes can be configured and evaluated
in applications like Excel.
With the integrated export/import tools available data is automatically and regularly
transferred to external media (archives). This ensures reliable long-term data
archiving. The online storage though is only limited by the hard disk volume
attached to the system.
PGIM provides an OPC server to provide applications with standardized access to
measured values and messages. Via programming interfaces (API) as well as
standard interfaces like OLE or SQL, data-bases are available for read and write
access. Values and signal descriptions can also be made accessible to other
programs as ASCII files.
Many direct interfaces to optimization applications exist, such as:
• Performance calculation/monitoring
• ERP Processor (transmission of counter readings or maintenance jobs to
SAP/R3-PM).
• Unit Commitment for applications optimization.
• PowerCycle as simulation and validation software.
• BoilerLife for boiler life monitoring.

Page 10 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361

• TurbineLife for turbine life monitoring.
• APIPro as maintenance tool.
• ANALYST an ABB vibration monitoring tool
PGIM Client
PGIM clients are networked computer systems that access data stored on the
PGIM server. Office computers allow convenient links to data within each area of
your business. An interconnected client-server structure minimizes the data flow
across the network, increasing efficiency. Various client functions are available to
facilitate data sharing.
Along with client applications within the local company network (Intranet), it is also
possible to operate the same applications outside the company network (Internet).
For that, PGIM uses standard protocols and standard mechanisms.
Two different clients are available with PGIM:
• PGIM Engineering Client (full client)

• PGIM Thin-Web Client

Document #: 9AKK104295D6361 Page 11

Specialized applications also provide support for PGIM client operation and
management.
The PGIM client manages logs, message evaluations, technical calculations,
process graphics and trend analyses within a Windows tree-structure. The
structure can be changed and adapted individually to create the optimum working
environment for each staff member. The navigator displays important information in
a user-friendly environment. Links to integrated applications facilitate interactive
data access.
Access Protection
PGIM offers an integrated access protection system. Staff members can be
assigned to one of eight user groups. For each group, a signal-related definition
specifies which signals will be accessible for read, write or configuration purposes
(change of parameters). The PGIM User Manager defines groups, staff members,
signals and rights.
SignalExplorer
The SignalExplorer is a centralized utility for fast and efficient configuration. A clear
user interface enables the configuration of trends, graphic displays, reports and
calculations.
The SignalExplorer presents all configured process data from all reachable servers
and scanners. Use it for configuration, signal acquisition, storage and evaluation.
Signals can be filtered and sorted according to codes. They can be assigned to
each application via drag-and-drop operations.

Trend Analysis
The PGIM Trend Analysis tool provides a graphical representation of the PGIM
database. It features an unlimited number of signals, automatic scaling, and user-
enabled legends. You can apply database functions like average value, max., min.,
differential and integral representation.
You can also shift signals in time in order to compare processes.
With the Trend Analysis tool each user is able to create a customized trend
diagram with ease.

Page 12 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361

Curves can be flooded and shifted in the X and Y direction to produce an accurate
representation. They can also be expanded and compressed. A different color can
be assigned to each signal for visibility. Control elements on the Trend Analysis
screen facilitate navigation when you evaluate curves.

Any number of measuring pointers can be inserted to display measured values.

The differential time can be inserted between the measuring pointers. This allows
you to read information like the start-up and shut-down periods.
A powerful feature of the Trend Analysis Tool is that you can start other
applications directly after selecting a signal. It is possible, for example, to branch
from the curve display directly to the IndustrialIT Plant Maintenance Management
API PRO, and then to automatically open the master record of the corresponding
measuring point.
The direct access of messages relevant to the time-range in the display is possible
though the use of the PGIM EventManagement module.
Process Graphics
You can easily create high-capacity process graphics to promote efficient
engineering practices. Clear graphic displays not only represent process values,
but also calculated results.
Calculation parameters and laboratory values such as material data can be
entered manually into the system. This gives you the flexibility to override
information from the display.
It is also possible to start an external program from the curve display application
(e.g. a maintenance tool) via a mouse click. The name of the selected measuring
Document #: 9AKK104295D6361 Page 13
point can be automatically passed to an application. This allows you to automate
the navigation to any associated applications.

Microsoft Office Integration

With the Office Integration feature of PGIM, you can generate ad hoc, hourly, shift,
daily, monthly and yearly reports. You can also produce accounting and
maintenance reports. Data is presented in the same familiar format that everyone
works with daily. The PGIM Excel add-in objects provide access to process
variables, historical data and calculated results.
Wizard guidance assists with report building. Special functions allow signal-
dependent inquiries of the database signals. These functions take into account the
signal qualities and relationships. For example, you can explore the integral
formation of a flow rate as a function of the switch-on/-off signal of a pump.
PGIM provides an assistant within Microsoft Excel, which facilitates access to the
process database. You can view signal descriptions, including specific user
attributes. You can also access so called aggregate states such as min., max.,
average; integral and differential, etc. In PGIM these Excel functions are used to
create reports. Current and historical process data can be summarized in these
logs, then printed and stored. The system also allows the user to include events
from event historian in his Excel sheet.
Logs and Reports
PGIM reports are automatically activated on a regular schedule. But you can also
activated them by events or generate them on a manually based regarding your
requirements.
Microsoft Excel is used as the front-end software for creating the layout of each
report.

Page 14 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361

Using the PGIM Full Client you can access data from all locations that are
equipped with. Inquiries can also be submitted by the WebClients referring to
standardized templates that get either executed on schedule or at the moment of
inquiry.
The integration of PGIM logging with Microsoft Excel opens the data to all Office
applications. Any generated or stored logs can be easily processed and transferred
electronically.
As an Excel application, laboratory data can be written into the database via a
manual input log. Data such as the results of fuel analysis, which is required in
calculations and reports, can be obtained from Excel.
Report templates are available for most common reports such as shift, day, week,
month, year, maintenance and trip reports.
Counter
Along with the ability to determine subsequent operating times, switching
frequencies and quantities in logs, PGIM is equipped with a counter module that
allows you to acquire variables online.
Counter readings have great importance for state-oriented maintenance. For
technical reasons, however, counters cannot be generated in the lower-level
systems (control systems, PLCs, etc.). For this reason PGIM supplies a module for
the continuous calculation of switching cycles, operating hours, quantities, etc.
Counters can be reset at any time to a defined value, for example after
maintenance activities are complete. The counter signals are available in the PGIM
database for further processing.

Document #: 9AKK104295D6361 Page 15

Event Management
The Event Management module can be used on PGIM to analyze disturbances
based on process messages. Event Management offers an extensive array of
analysis possibilities, such as message filters in alarm/event lists, and frequency
statistics for defined time-ranges.
An EEMUA 191 Alarm Analysis package as an option is in preparation.
The view of messages can be set individually, and you can customize the view at
any time using menu-driven commands. Messages can be viewed in a list format
or in an alarm page format.

The direct call of messages from the PGIM trend display allows for fast disturbance
analysis in a process plant.
By inserting manual messages you can ex-change information with other Event
Management users, much like using a logbook. The additional information, user
IDs and time-stamps are automatically recorded in the sys-tem.
Messages can be acknowledged on the alarm page. All messages along with
additional information can be stored in the long-term archive. Message acquisition
is implemented via serial connections or network connections. The Event
Management can be connected to each individual control system instead of a log
printer. In this way Event Management is easily available to different control
systems. The messages can be sorted, filtered and re-formatted. Colored
identification of different message priorities creates an easily surveyed list.
Statistical evaluations are integrated with the message client to improve the search
for the cause of disturbances.
The PGIM Event Processor links and evaluates messages. You can custom
configure the binary logic that links messages to results. These links of messages
are used for the generation of new messages, for the start of applications, for the
transmission of SMS messages, or for the modification of PGIM database signals.
Page 16 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361
Alarm Management
PGIM Alarm Management is an add-on to the PGIM EventManagement. It is used
to analyze in detail the alarm behavior of a plant and to give hints and
recommendations towards a better configuration. PGIM Alarm Management
provide reports as required by the EEMUA 191 guideline.
The application is designed as a web portal and typically is hosted together with
the PGIM WebServer.

Administration
With PGIM administration tools, system administration procedures become
transparent. Starting from the Automatic Installation various tools accurately
indicate the current state of the system. You can access information and settings
directly from the administration screens.

PGIM Aqua
PGIM AQUA includes additional functionalities specifically tailored to the water
industry have been developed for PGIM. The functions are modeled on the
German ATV M260 specification for “Acquiring, displaying, evaluating and
documenting operational data of sewage treatment plants”.
These include:
• Entering laboratory and substitute values
• Automatic archive correction after manual entries (recalculation)
• Templates for daily, monthly and annual reports
• Templates for maintenance reports
• Malfunction analyses
PGIM Shiftbook
This is an electronic version of an electronic shift log based on PGIM.
During the operation of a plant, a large number of events occur that need to be
documented. In addition, operators have to document what actions are being
performed. This documentation is obligatory in many plants. In the past, this was
usually done in paper form.
Retrieval of information about past events was rather time-consuming — an
analysis of the information for optimizing the operation, the workflow or the safety
measures nearly impossible.
Functions offered by the Shiftbook application:
• Recording of manual shift book entries
• Generating automatic shift book entries which are initiated by process
signals
• Diagnostic functions
• Transfer of maintenance-relevant shift book entries to the Maintenance
Management System
• Statistical reports
• Distributing reports by e-mail
• Shift handover reports
• Simulation and to-do lists
The system is highly tight to the PGIM database and profits a lot from the
capabilities to document automatically.

If you plan to run reports or the PGIM WebServer on a PGIM server computer
please make sure to add enough provision to the computer hardware, e.g. instead
using a Pentium D use a Intel Quad Core CPU and faster disks. In any case this
function is limited to small systems only.
Also have in mind that systems which improve the reliability of the computer such
as RAID disks typically slow down the computer performance. In contrast PGIM
redundancy improves the performance or the overall system due to integrated load
balancing!

Details on Sizing and Layout
PGIM Server
An unlimited number of PGIM server (pairs if redundant) can be used with each
System 800xA. At a maximum you can use as many PGIM servers (Server pairs if
redundant) as you have independent Connectivity Servers.
One PGIM server can also serve many 800xA systems at the same time as long as
the described performance outline is not overrun.
The connection to the 800xA system is established through one single connectivity
server (a pair of connectivity server if redundant) per used PGIM server (pair if
redundant).
Software additionally to the described above:
• With redundant networks RNRP
• No 800xA software required on this node
Max number of Tags
The definition of Tag within PGIM is one single measurement value (also called
signal or alphanumeric). It is not a whole MSR with lots of properties and
measurements.
Maximum number of Tags: 20.000 per 800xA-PGIM Server. In non 800xA systems
the amount of signals/server can be as high as 100’000. The recommendation is
not to exceed 50’000 signals/server in order to provide enough provision for
applications.
Maximum Signal-Recording Rate
PGIM only records signals in the case of a value change that means if a defined
tolerance (in 800xA this can be configured in the log template) band is passed.
The maximum possible signal-recording rate relates to the sum of all changes of all
tags per second. Typically a power plant unit with well defined dead bands (0.1%-
0.5% dead band and 0.5-1 seconds scan rate) with PGIM takes about 30-50
GB/year disk space on the server. The reason for this very good rate is the
distributed processing of the PGIM system, where the scanners already decide if a
value has changed outside the tolerance band and only transport those to the
server that have changed. The throughput of this distributed system is therefore
extremely high (depending on number of scanners ~ typically 150’000 values/s).
On the server side make sure that the maximum middle continuous record rate
(which is not the raw data rate!) does not exceed 1000 values/sec because this
relates to a recording volume of about 1’200 MB per day on the hard disk (or 440
GB/year).
Dead bands of 0% can be configured, typically for manual inputs, but should be
avoided for process values from the DCS system. There is no benefit in recording
meter drifts!
The maximum permitted peek record rate is not limited, because the records first
get written in memory and afterwards in temporary file buffers. These buffers are
located on the connectivity servers. The buffers are getting cleared to the PGIM
database where there is an artificial throughput limit of 15’000 values/sec to assure
client requests to get fulfilled.
Page 22 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361
Maximum Event-Recording Rate
The maximum permitted continuous middle event rate should not exceed 10
Events/sec. Since this means 864’000 events/day, or about 1GB of disk space/day
the following rule applies:
As a recommendation the maximum continuous data rate should no exceed about
100 k Events/day since the database does simply get too big and working with it
becomes slow. If the system needs more events, check the daily load with the
EventExplorer statistic function and consider to blacklist the nuisance events.
The maximum peek recording rate for events is not limited because they are
buffered in temporary files on the connectivity server.
The clearance of the buffers to the PGIM database is limited to about 100
events/sec.
This means: In case of a burst of e.g. 10’000 Events in 10 sec. That the values will
be available after 10’000/100 = 100 seconds.
Events are written to the PGIM SQL Server database by the Event Importer
service. Normally we have one Event Importer per PGIM system. It is not
recommended to run more than 5 Event Importer into one database. The reason is
that the Event Importers are heavy SQL client users which reserve server tables
for exclusive write-rights.
Connectivity to the 800xA: Data Collection on the Connectivity Server
The data collection of PGIM is handled by one single connectivity server (or a pair
of connectivity servers if redundant). This is also the case for system, which have
more than more than one (pair) of connectivity servers.
Background: Why not install the PGIM software on all connectivity servers?
Tests have show that there is no benefit for installing more than one server in any
terms. And installation is much easier when only using one server
The PGIM Application Server
In each PGIM 800xA environment one computer is necessary for:
• Configure reports
• Schedule reports
• Configure technical calculations
• Schedule technical calculations
• Where the external archiving is executed using the ExImport tool
• The PGIM WebServer to serve 800xA workplaces with reporting
capabilities.
Requirements to this PGIM application server in terms of hard/software/operation:
• Hardware can be a normal workplace computer
• This computer does not need any 800xA components but the installation is
also possible on 800xA workplaces.
• It is important that for each PGIM user windows permission are given. That
means e.g. the execution of Excel Add-Ins.
Document #: 9AKK104295D6361 Page 23
• The software for this application server consists out of a full PGIM client
with Navigator, SignalExplorer, Trends, GED-Displays, Reports)
• The PGIM server must not be used as application server
• The application server needs to schedule reports and calculations, for this it
is necessary that this computer is running 24h.
• PGIM Reports are now scheduled by a service. therefore it is not necessary
any more that a is logged in permanently.
Under this consideration which computer can be used?
All 800xA workplaces, which are configured according to the rules above. Typically
the computer of a shift-leader is a good proposal. It is only allowed to have one
application server per PGIM 800xA system.
Recommendation:
Offer an extra computer if possible which is only used for PGIM applications. For
large amounts of reports.
Other option: each computer in a reachable network can be used to do this job.
If office users need ThinWebClient functionality with PGIM trends and PGIM
graphics, consider to install an extra (beside the applications server) PGIM
WebServer for this application in a DMZ.
Reports
Use the PGIM WebServer with ThinClient support for the integration of PGIM
Reports.
For Event analysis install a PGIM Event Client on those 800xA workplaces where
this is applicable.
From 800xA aspects can be configured in such a way that the reports can be
viewed very comfortable.
800xA workplace operators cannot generate new protocols in terms of time/date
adjustments. It is not possible to configure complete reports.
EventExplorer
For viewing and analysis of the long-term event history stored in the PGIM server
the PGIM EventExplorer application can be installed and used on all 800xA
Clients.
Pre-configured aspects can accomplish call up of the EventExplorer from 800xA
operator stations.
Archive ExImport
For the export of PGIM data to an external medium (e.g. MO, DVD, external hard
disk storage, etc.) the PGIM ExImport tool needs to be installed on a separate
computer. The recommendation for this is to use the Application Server.
As an alternative, but not recommended is to install the PGIM ExImport on one of
the redundant PGIM Servers.
It is not allowed to setup the ExImport tool redundant. This is also not necessary
because Im- and Exports get automatically started after going online again with
following up on the downtime with spaces.

Section 2: Ordering
Price Book Structure
The price book “System 800xA for Power Generation 2009.xls” includes on price
lists for ordering the latest version of the PGIM product:
Price List: PGIM

Ordering Details
PGIM can be ordered for two different kinds of systems:
1. as an integrated 800xA historian
2. as a stand alone information management system
The systems are priced the same.
This document will give you the ability to find the right components that are
necessary for your use case.
PGIM Server license
Every PGIM system consists out of one or many Basic PGIM servers. For
redundancy you need at least two server licenses since you are going to install a
redundant pair and each server needs one license. PGIM supports 1oo2
redundancy with synchronization and load balancing.
The base server consists out of the ability to store and historize the licensed
amount of binary and analog values. There is no time limit in terms of “how long
can values be stored” associated with the license, this only depends on the amount
of disk space available to the server.
The Server also has the ability to store Event Messages. There is no limit on the
number of event messages other than the disk space of the server associated.
Each server comes with 1 client license for events, trends, graphics and Excel add-
in. This license is typically consumed by the server itself and can only be used
here. The archiving function (ExImport tool) is included in the server license.
800xA Integration Kit for all 800xA systems
The PGIM 800xA Integration Kit needs to be ordered for every integrated 800xA
PGIM system. It includes the licenses for a certain amount of PGIM Clients used
for system functions only and it comes with an 800xA Event Collector service that
is needed to read events from the 800xA system. If you are ordering mixed
systems you also need to order this component.
Number of history logs
Choose the number of history logs that your system needs for logging values
(analog and binary values). All values are treated the same by the server, therefore
there is no differentiation between analog and binaries necessary.
History logs are available in packages of 100, 1’000, 10’000 and 15’000 logs. Each
package can be ordered in multiples to match the needs of the system, e.g. 20’000
logs can be composed by 1x15’000 and 5x1’000 logs. If multiple servers are
Document #: 9AKK104295D6361 Page 25
ordered in one system, then the total amount of history logs for all servers can be
ordered using the highest rebated packages. E.g. you need 5 servers with together
50’000 logs then you can order 3x15’000 + 5x1000 logs to accomplish your system
needs.
For single server (non redundant) PGIM configurations, use Single Logs, for
redundant PGIM server configurations use the Redundant Logs section. The
amount of logs orders reflects the system amount of logs, e.g. when you need
redundant PGIM servers with 10’000 logs then you need to order two PGIM
servers and 1x10’000 redundant history logs.
Events are messages not values – please refer to the section Event Management
and see above comment. There is no extra charge for a specific number of event
messages stored. This only depends on hardware disk space.
Clients: Historian Display and Reporting Options PGIM
In this section you can order PGIM Clients for events, graphics, trends and reports
based on Excel with the PGIM Excel Add-in.
In PGIM there are basically two different kinds of Clients available:
• Full Clients, also called Engineering clients
• Thin-Web Clients based on MS Internet Explorer
The full PGIM clients come with a package consisting of the PGIM Navigator, the
trend display and a graphics package incl. a display builder. It also includes the
license for the Excel Add-in. With the full client you can view and engineer your
own views and displays.
The Thin-Web Client is based on MS Internet Explorer. In contrast to the Full Client
the thin-Web Client includes the ability to view Events from the PGIM event server.
The Thin-Web Client does not need any installation on client side. But you need to
install a web server, please refer to the overview sections above for tech. details.
When using this option you need to have at least on Full PGIM Client license on
the web server for data access and engineering. The licenses for Thin-Web Clients
and for Full Clients can not be mixed.
PGIM Client licenses are floating licenses – the number indicated is for concurrent
users. Each client computer can consume max 1 client license, regardless of the
number of PGIM displays (events, graphics, trends, Excel) opened. Terminal
servers consume clients per logged-in user.
In each order starting from the 10th Client you will get a discount of 20%. This also
applies to expansion licenses: if your expansion order is below 10 clients you will
not be able to order discounted client licenses.
PGIM Full Client licenses are also consumed by PGIM system components. The
following system components are consuming client licenses:
• PGIM Server
• PGIM Event Importer
• PGIM WebServer
• PGIM CalcServer
• PGIM ExImport
• PGIM Counter
Page 26 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361
• Any component that accesses the PGIM Database directly
These extra clients need to be taken into account when ordering a system – they
are not for free but depend pretty much on the system layout.
When ordering a PGIM Flavor 2 system (800xA integrated) you will receive a
limited number of client licenses together with the 800xA integration package.
These licenses are only valid to ensure system function on 800xA system nodes
and are not permitted to be used on office/workplace computers (only PGIM
system computers are allowed to run them). Violating these rules will impose
system malfunction!
PGIM Counter
The counter module is licensed once for a complete system and can be used in as
many instances as necessary. It always needs a ScanManager on the same
machine though which also holds the license. The counter module is redundant by
a active/passive switch-over. Note: be aware that in case of a switch-over only the
function but not the current last value is passed to the now active counter. This can
lead to deviations. The PGIM Counter belongs to the PGIM Tool-kit.
PGIM Standard Reports
The PGIM reporting package includes the Excel Add-in data access, the report
templates and the PGIM Advanced Reporting Scheduler. Each reporting server is
licensed by instance; this means it needs to have an extra license for each
reporting server. The reporting can not be constructed redundant. Parallel usage is
permitted.
In general, all PGIM systems need to have this option when you plan to do
reporting.
Auto RAS Dialer
The PGIM AutoRasDialer is a component to automatic dial into other networks
over phone lines. It is licensed by system and belongs to PGIM tool-kit.
EventManagement
The PGIM EventManagement is part of the PGIM Server license. Clients to view
the collected and stored Events need to be purchased as standard extra clients.
The stand-alone Alarm/Event Client is use to view, filter, analyze, etc. the stored
events.
Every system that is using Alarm/Events functions should have at least one client
for usage with the Event Server. If using a PGIM WebServer, you need at least one
full client to engineer the filters for the Thin-Web Clients.
800xA workplaces can use the PGIM Event Explorer without purchasing an extra
license.
For connecting non 800xA systems to the PGIM event management, you can
either use the OPC AE Scanner or a serial connection. Multiple connections to
different control systems are supported. The necessary components are included
in the EventManagement Tool-Kit and can be used in multiple instances.
The Event Processor is part of the PGIM Tool-Kit and can also be used system
wide.

OPC Server
PGIM offers four different kinds of OPC servers:
• OPC DA 2.0 on the Scan Manager (highest performance)
• OPC DA 2.0 on the PGIM Server database (enriched properties)
• OPC HDA
• OPC AE
OPC Servers are licensed by instance.
The PGIM OPC HDA interface has been construed for max performance with
800xA and not for 100% compatibility with the standard. The compatibility mode of
PGIM HDA server therefore does not fulfill the OPC specification in all parts.
PGIM Connect
Only available with 800xA: For redundant (parallel) configuration only one licenses
per CS pair is necessary.
Scanners and Scan Drivers
A PGIM Scanner consists out of a Scan Manager (which is a program) and at least
out of one Scan Driver which implements the connected protocol. One Scan
Manager can hold multiple drivers and multiple instances from each scan driver.
Per computer that runs a Scan Manager you need to have an extra Scan Manager
license (license by instance).
Scan Drivers are licensed by system means you only need to purchase each driver
once in a system regardless how many instances you are using. Scan drivers only
include the PGIM software part. If 3rd party hardware/software is necessary then
this needs to be ordered extra. It is never included.
For 800xA connectivity order the required amount of connectivity server, typically
two in case of redundant connectivity servers per 800xA system and PGIM server
(pair if redundant).
PGIM Technical Calculations
Technical Calculations (CalcServer) are licensed by the Performance Calculation
package offered with the OPTIMAX product suite. It is not part of PGIM product
and has its own price list. Technically it has been improved and uses the same
setup procedure and connection as before.
PGIM Aqua
PGIM Aqua is use for waste-water (sewage) plants and is available in two different
configurations:
1. the AQUA Application
2. the AQUA Package
The Aqua application consist out of the PGIM Counters, the reporting package with
extra M260 reports, the Aqua calculation modules together with the CalcServer
and the Aqua faceplates. This package needs to be combined with other standard
PGIM components.
The Aqua Package is used for small PGIM AQUA applications and has a price
advantage. It includes beside the standard AQUA Application a PGIM Server
Page 28 Document: # 9AKK104295D6361
(without history logs) a ScanManager (without Scanner Tags) with one Scan Driver
and two Full PGIM Clients.
PGIM Shiftbook
The PGIM Shiftbook is licensed by number of Shiftbook databases that it covers.
Each database needs to have its own license. Only servers are licensed and
include an unlimited number of clients. One license covers one Shiftbook
database.
For connection to the PGIM database a process interface in necessary.
For connection to a maintenance system such as SAP PM or API Pro an extra
maintenance interface is necessary. Consider that SAP and API PRO requires
extra application knowledge that needs to be in your organization.
For integration of the PGIM Shiftbook in 800xA a special integration package is
available.
Hardware
Please refer to the release note for current recommendations on hardware.
