Discussion Assignment

In the discussion forum, you are expected to participate often and engage in deep levels of
discourse. You are required to post an initial response to the question/issue presented in the
forum by Sunday evening and then respond to at least three of your classmates’ initial posts. You
should also respond to anyone who has responded to you.

o Analyze the readings for this unit.

o Determine which type of active-learning, inquiry-based approach (e.g.,
collaborative work, case studies, think-pair-share) could work well in a classroom
and explain why you think so.
 Tell us how you will engage your students by using the inquiry-based
approach
 Support your explanation with examples.
o Respond to three of your peers by developing a shared understanding of what
constructivism looks like in an ideal classroom.

Your initial discussion should be a minimum of 250 words in length and not more than 750
words. Following the APA standard, use references and in-text citations for any sources.

Collaborative learning approaches (n.d.) defines a collaborative/ cooperative learning style as one that
involves students working together on projects or assignments in a class size small enough to guarantee
everyone's participation. Students in the group may collaborate on a shared task or work independently
on individual activities that contribute to a common final product. This is further echoed by Laal &
Ghodsi (2012) in saying that in collaborative learning, a group of students work together to solve a
problem, finish a task, or produce a product. It is a type of active learning that involves everyone
therefore can work well in a classroom environment. Collaborative learning helps students who are
weak to learn from their peers.
