INTRODUCTION
This lesson is intended for you to derive elements from traditions/ history of a
community for one’s artwork. You will analyze how traditions/ history of a community
affect the creation of an art.
After going through the lesson, you are expected to discuss the elements used in
an artwork from the traditions/history of the community where it was created, describe
and illustrate the connection/relationship of the artwork to the lives of the people, tradition,
history, culture, beliefs and practices in their community, and recognized the vital role of
tradition and history in the creation of the arts and crafts of Luzon.
At the end of the module, you should be able to:

Ati-Atihan Festival - name Ati-Atihan means
"make-believe Atis. " It has been known as the
wildest among Philippine fiestas. The Ati-
Atihan is a festival in honour of the Santo
Niño The festival
is held on the third week of January everyyear,
on the second Sunday after Epiphany in
Kalibo in the Aklan province on the island of
Panay.
The Ati-Atihan also bears a deep religious
significance. The pahilot, a faith-healing
tradition, is held during the festival where a
Catholic priest rubs the devotee's body with
the image of the Santo Niño, with thebelief that
it heals both the body and soul.
