Sample SOP - Propagation

This document provides a standard operating procedure for plant propagation. It outlines the critical steps for taking cuttings from mother plants and rooting them, including using rooting hormone, mini rockwool blocks, and domed trays under lights. The procedure aims to produce healthy, strong cuttings for high plant yields. Key steps include taking cuttings at specific nodes, treating any pests, dipping stems in hormone, and sticking cuttings in rockwool before placing in labeled trays under lights. Following this SOP helps ensure a steady supply of vital plants for grow rooms.

DETAILED PROCESS: PROPAGATION

1. Put on clean pair of gloves before taking cuttings. If contamination occurs, change gloves.

2. We take cuttings after plants have vegged for 4 weeks. Take cuttings in veg room before those plants move
to their flowering room.

3. Do not take cuttings from new top growth.

4. Cuttings are to be taken between the top and middle of each plant.

Avoid removing any of the top growing points.

5. Using a scalpel or razor blade, count back 3-
4 nodes (with the top most leaves being node number 1) and make a 45 degree (diagonal) cut to remove the
cutting from the plant.

6. Place cutting stem-first into water to prevent loss of capillary action in the stem, so as not to disturb flow of
water to the plant.

7. Inspect each cutting for signs of pests. If found, submerge the cutting in the pesticide solution we use for that
specific pest. Reference document, ‘Pest Management Procedures’

8. Place small amount of rooting hormone, Clonex, into a shallow dish/cup.

9. Soak mini rockwool blocks in solution of RootShield. Refer to

RootShield label instructions for concentration specs.

10. Remove each cutting from the holding cup.

11. Take one rockwool block from soaking tub.  Inspect the stem of cutting and recut at 45 degrees if necessary

12. Dip/roll each cutting stem once in the hormone cup. Don’t overdo it as excessive rooting hormone can

actually impair rooting.

13. Stick the cutting stem into the hole in the top of the rockwool block.

14. Dip entire cutting in water/nutrient solution. Reference ‘SOP for nutrient and feeding solutions’

15. Place cutting and rockwool block in tray.

16. Keep strains separate by tray and identify tray’s strain by writing its name with a sharpie on 3” white labels.

17. Once the tray is full, place the clear, plastic dome over the tray and put under lights in veg room.

18. Discard any leftover hormone in the dish according to label and direction.
