TRUSS DESIGN DATA:

General:

I. The design of purlin sizes are based on analysis of bending members as a

simple beam. The length of the purlin coinciding the bay length is taken as the
span length needed for the single span beam formula.

II. Plus and minus signs signify pressure acting toward and away from the top
surface of the roof, respectively.

III. Since the purlins are continuous 0over a number of trusses, it is conservative to
assume that purlins are simply supported at the trusses. (J. McCormac and S.
Csernak, 2012)

IV. Sag rods are provided at one-third points of the span of purlins, e.g. from truss
to truss. ENCLOSURE CLASSIFICATION 1. Ao > 1.10 Aoi

In addition to being advantageous in reducing moments about the web
axes of purlins, sag rods can serve other useful purposes. First,they AB of T:
can provide lateral support for the purlins; second, they are useful in AB = T / ϕ0.75Fu
keeping the purlins in proper alignment during erection until the roof

deck is installed and connected to the purlins.
(Structural Steel Design, 5th Ed., Mc Cormac, P. AB = (20.994kN) / (0.75(0.75)(400))

ф = 0.75 L1 = 51.53 mm ≈ 55 mm
t = 6 mm -1.6 Rsr = 0.45Fut
t = 4.40 mm (Max. size of weld) Rsr = 0.45(415)(4) L2 = LT - L1
Rsr = 0.76 kN L2 = 72.4773 - 51.53
Use 3.00 mm size of weld фRsr = 0.57 kN L1 = 20.95 mm ≈ 25 mm
FOR DIAGONAL CHORD
L50x50x8 For Shear Strength of weld:
Thickness: 8.00 mm
Pact(max)= 58.4953 N Rn = 0.707(w)Fnxx
Y1 15.24 m Rn = 0.707 x w x 0.60Fu
Rn = 0.707 x 3 x 0.60(415)
Electrode: Rn = 0.528 kN
E70XX Therefore:
Fy 485 MPa For the design strength: фRn = 0.40 kN < фRs = 1.16 kN Safe
Fu 415 MPa фRn = 0.40 kN < фRsr = 0.57 kN Safe
ф = 0.75

Gusset фRn = 0.75Rn

Plate: Note:
Grade of Steel A36 фRn = 0.75(0.528) Because of the equation above, therefore
Thickness 4.00 mm фRn = 0.40 kN Weld shear strength controls.

For shear at base metal:

Solve for length total of weld, LT:
t = 4 mm (thickness of gusset plate controls) LT =
ф = 1.00 𝑃𝑢/█(ф𝑅𝑛@)
Rs = 0.60(Fy)(t) LT = 147.72 mm
Rs = 0.60(485)(4) From equation:

Therefore; Rs = 1.16 kN L1 + L2 = LT → eq. 1

t = 5mm, min of 3mm фRs = 1.16 kN L1y1 = L2y2 → eq. 2

By solving simultaneously:
From: L50x50x8 For Shear Rupture strength:
L1 +
(𝐿1(15.24))/(50−15.24
) = LT
t = 8 mm -1.6 ф = 0.75 L1 = 102.69 mm ≈ 105 mm
t = 6.40 mm (Max. size of weld)
Rsr = 0.45Fut
Rsr = 0.45(415)(4) L2 = LT - L1
Use 3.00 mm size of weld Rsr = 0.76 kN L2 = 147.7154 - 102.69
фRsr = 0.57 kN L1 = 45.03 mm ≈ 50 mm
