COLLEGE DEPARTMENT
3. After recently modifying your lesson plans to include in-class small team
assignments you notice Genevieve with her head on her desk while her
partners are working through the problem. After asking her if something
is wrong, she replies that group work is a “waste of time” and thinks that
“teachers should actually teach during class.” How will you respond to
the situation?
- I will talk to her and I will explain to her that the group work is part of
the lesson that we tackle. Instead of group work, I will do it in pairs so that
each of them can participate during the work assigned. Also, I will add
activities that might catch her attention. In that way, she may participate in
the assigned task.
4. It is the beginning of class, and you have just handed back the first
exam. One student raises his hand and argues that the test questions
were not like what they did in class. Now the rest of the students are
joining in and complaining that the test wasn’t fair and that you didn’t
prepare them well enough. What is your action on this?
- I will smile at them and collect the questionnaire I handed in and make a
different one. I will just have a quiz in the meantime through this I will also
know what did they really learn in my lessons.
5. Kyle covertly bangs on the bottom of his desk, making distracting noises
while you are teaching. When you ask him to stop, he looks innocent and
claims he is not doing anything. And yet when you go back to teaching,
he continues the noise again. What do you do?
- I will walk around the class while still talking to them and if Kyle will do
it behind my back I will walk beside him and stand there while randomly
asking questions to my attentive students until he will no longer do it. After
class I will call his attention and talk to him if ever he has a problem may it be
a personal family problem or in my class.
