Solve Problems and Make Decisions:

1. Analyze the situation well.

“I am going to present a video clip.

Then you are going to analyze the
situation.”

“In the video presented, what is the

problem of the pig?”
“To get food and eat.”

“Very good.”

“Decisions often fail because key

factors are missed or ignored from the
outset. So, before you can begin to make
a decision, you need to fully understand
your situation.”

Start by considering the decision in the “He could stay and wait.”
context of the problem it is intended to “He could get out and find food in the
address. You need to determine whether garbage pile.”
the stated problem is the real issue, or
just a symptom of something deeper.

“In the video, the pig thought that his

problem is his hunger. When in fact, the
problem is where he can get food.”

“What was his goal now?”

“Great, thank you.”

Solve Problems and Make Decisions:

“It will take time before he can eat.”
2. Examine your options.

“So, what are the options of the pig?”

“Before making any decision, it’s

imperative to gather all the data that “There might be no food in the garbage
is associated with the problem and the pile.”
reason for the needed decision.”

 Do not jump to a quick decision.

 Weigh all options.
 Consider the consequences each
decision will bring; now and in the
future.

“How did the pig weigh all the options?”

Alternative Solution is a solution that
entails the use of any design, material

or method of construction that differs

completely or partially from those in
the acceptable solution.
“Very good, thank you. So, it depends on
the farmer to decide what time he’s
going to feed the pig.”

“But what if he goes out and search on

the garbage pile? What can be the (Students’ answer may vary.)
problem?”
“Create a noise until the farmer notice

“Look for food near the area.”
3. Look for alternatives.

“In the third step, you are going to

create or look for alternative
solution.”

“But what is an alternative solution,

can someone read the presentation?”

“Thank you. So, an alternative solution

or plan is different from the one that
you already have.”

“Can you give me an alternative solution

based on the video clip I’ve presented?
The pig options are to stay and wait or
go out and search on the garbage pile.
If both don’t work, what can be your “He took risk and search in the garbage

“Brilliant ideas, thank you.”

“Good solutions are not possible without

alternatives because if the plan A
didn’t work, you can apply your plan B.”

4. Select best solutions.

Once you've evaluated the alternatives,
the next step is to make your decision!

“For the last step, you are going to

select and make your decision.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“What is the outcome of the decision-
making process of the big?”

“Very good!”

E. Application

“Now we are going to have an activity, I

will be presenting different scenarios.
Then, you are going to make a decision
based on the problem. Are you ready?”

Directions: Analyze the scenario and (Students will answer the activity)
come up with a solution or decision to
resolve the problem.

“You may open your microphone or use our

chatbox if you want to answer.”
“Are you ready?”

“Okay, let’s start!”

1.What will you do if you are

being bullied by your
classmates?

show. You may now start.”

F. Generalization

“What is the biggest decision you ever

made in your entire life?”

1. You can always change your mind

about a decision you’ve made.

2. Deciding is a process, not a

static, one-time event.
“We are constantly re-evaluating in
light of new information. A decision may
not have had the consequences you
expected. So, you can start the process
over again.”

3. There’s a big difference between

decision and outcome.

“You can make a good decision based on

the information at hand and still have a
bad outcome. The decision is within your
control, but the outcome is not. All
decisions have the element of chance or
risk.”

4. Try to avoid “either/or” thinking;

usually there are more than two
options. Be imaginative and
creative.

5. Listen to your inner voice; trust

your intuition.

“What feels right? If you are making a

decision that can have long time
consequences, take your time. Don’t rush
and make an impulsive decision.”

“For your quiz, you are going to analyze

problems based on the given scenarios
and form a decision or solution.”
IV. Evaluation
Directions: Analyze the problems and form a decision or solution.
Scenario #1: You are at the mall with your best friend. You go
into your favorite store. Your best friend picks up a really cool
shirt and quickly stuffs it in her book bag. She tells you that
she does it all the time and has never gotten caught. You had
been looking at the shirt for a couple of weeks. What do you do?
Scenario #2: Someone in your class cheated on a test. You know
for a fact that they did. This person messed up the curve for the
test. You received a D on the test. Will you tell the teacher?
Why or why not?

V. Assignment
Directions: Analyze the scenario and give answers based on the four
(4) steps of decision making.
Scenario: Your friend does not have enough money to go to the
football game. He/she wants to sneak into the ballgame without
paying.
1. What is the problem in the situation?
2. Give options to the problem.
3. Give alternative solutions.
4. What is your decision?
