CLASSROOM OBSERVATION (OBS):

In each observation, all components for which there is observed evidence must be rated. Each form must
contain lesson-specific evidence for each of the components observed during a classroom observation.

This observation was: {check 0110)

IX I Formal ObservaUo n (fu ll period) D Informal Observation (15 minutes minimum)

Date of Observation : 11/29/2022 Time/Period: .:..P.::.e:..::rio::..:d::...::.2_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __

Component Ratings

1a (obs): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy 3- Effective

The teacher provided clear explanations of the content. During phonics, she
explained that "q" and "u" are best friends and how "c" and "k" can have similar
sounds.

1e (obs): Designing coherent instruction N/A

2a: Creating an environment of respect and rapport 3- Effective

Talk between the teacher and students and among students was uniformly
respectful.

2d: Managing student behavior 4- Highly Effective

Student behavior was entirely appropriate.

3b: Using questioning and discussion techniques 3- Effective

The teacher makes effective use of wait time. For example, after asking, "Let's put
our learning hats on and think about a sentence," she waited for 5 seconds before
telling students to turn and talk with a partner.

3c: Engaging students in learning 2- Developing

Some students were intellectually engaged in the lesson. Students that were
working independently were completing a packet, but the resources were not
directly from the Fundations curriculum. Additionally, the pacing of the lesson was
uneven - teachers spent time listening to students' sentences containing the word
"call" and did not have enough time for students to apply their understanding to a
shared reading.

3d: Using assessment in instruction 3- Effective

Last Revised: 12/08/22 4:44:31 PM By dremsen

Within the teacher's small group, students were invited to assess their own work
and make improvements. When the teacher saw that some students had written a
"y" incorrectly, she showed them how to write it and the students adjusted their
work.

4e (obs): Growing and developing professionally N/A

Additional Evaluator Notes (please attach more pages, as necessary):

Ms. Esteban,

Thank you for welcoming me into your classroom on 11/29/22. When we met with you and your co-teacher
on 12/1/22, we discussed that your classroom is a calm and positive learning environment. We also
discussed ways to implement Fundations lessons more efficiently, as a component of balanced literacy, and
ways to effectively collect data during the lesson.

Continue implementing Fundations with fidelity and reach cui to ou r Literacy Coach, Josephine, for additional
support.
