The 21st century instruction where independent learning (Distance Learning) is encouraged, the

documentation of a personal learning journey is a must. Such documentation can help the teacher
monitor the process and assess the product of learning. Doing this requires proper organizations
through a portfolio.

What is Portfolio?

 Portfolios are means of keeping things in order. It is a collection of student work that exhibits
students’ efforts, progress, achievements and competencies gained during the course.
 A portfolio is a systematic collection of student work that represents student activities,
accomplishments, and achievements over a specific period of time in one or more areas of the
curriculum.
 It can look like an album or scrapbook or a filer where the document and evidences are kept.

What is ePortfolio?

 Nowadays, online portfolios are used in creating sites. This is called ePortfolio or
digital portfolio. This can be used as a digital archive that can contain the same
materials as a physical portfolio but can have as multimedia productions, relevant online links or
references, digital stories or video blogs, powerpoint presentations, photographs and other ICT
materials.
 An academic ePortfolio is a digital collection created by a student of their course-related work,
like essays, posters, photographs, videos, and artwork; academic ePortfolios can also capture
other aspects of a student’s life, such as volunteer experiences, employment history,
extracurricular activities, and more.
 The ePortfolio can be private or can be published and shared publicly to stakeholderslike
parents and friends.

Purpose of Creating ePortfolio

ePortfolios generate learning because they provide an opportunity and virtual space for students to
critically assess their academic work, to reflect on that work, and make connections among different
courses, assignments, and other activities, such as work experience, extracurricular pursuits,
volunteering opportunities, and more.

What is difference between electronic portfolio and traditional portfolio?

 A digital portfolio allows you to collaborate seamlessly with anyone around the world, whereas
a traditional portfolio does not give you that opportunity. Utilising social media also helps share
your work with the world, and helps expose and give credit to other creatives that you may have
worked with.
 A digital portfolio houses your creative work on a website, in a digital document, or even on a
platform. A physical portfolio is a binder of all of your creative work usually including printed
photos and examples.
