Discussion Questions:

1. What risks are commonly present in the incidents discussed in the article? Discuss your answer.

The risks mentioned in the article include an incident in 2005 on the Smiler ride at Alton Towers
resulting from the failure of a carriage carrying 16 people who were injured, and a 5 million fine to the
company, and a mechanical failure in 1972 on the Big Dipper at the Battersea Funfair that caused a
collision that killed five children and injured more. Because of what happened, the fair had to close due
to a loss of visitors and a bad reputation. The risks mentioned in the article are frequently defined as
failures. The security of theme parks is in danger. Failure to ensure the safety of the facilities and also a
failure to comply with health and safety regulations, has tended to result in tragic events occurring on a
variety of rides and amusement attractions. Injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to broken bones and
head trauma resulting in brain damage are possible. Accidents on the most dangerous theme park rides
result in deaths as a result of the danger involved. In the end, it all simply comes down to the rides and
related mechanical issues that resulted in serious accidents that resulted in multiple injuries and deaths.
The cause of this incident is a failure to comply with regulations as well as a lack of maintenance
management, the substitution of out-of-date rides, and inappropriate procedures that put people's lives
in danger.
