CW-1 Scales

The document provides instructions for 6 scale drawing exercises: 1) Construct a plain scale in centimeters and millimeters to measure up to 8 cm and mark 5.7 cm. 2) Construct a scale to read kilometers up to 25 km with 20 hm accuracy, where 5 km = 2.5 cm, and mark 13.4 km. 3) Find the representative fraction of a map where 80 cm2 = 5 km2, and construct a diagonal scale to measure up to 3 km in km, hm, and dam, marking specified distances. 4) Find the representative fraction of a road map where 560 km = 392 mm, and construct a diagonal scale to measure 126 km up to

Session III 2021
Batches – C & K; Class Work – 1

Date:26/06/2021, 1.30 – 3.30pm Marks: 10

SCALES

1. Construct a plain scale to show centimetres and millimetres when one centimetre is
represented by 2 cm and long enough to measure up to 8 cm. Mark a distance of
5.7 cm on this scale. [1]

2. On a map, 5 km is represented by 2.5 cm. Construct a suitable scale to read up to

25 km with an accuracy of 20 hm. Mark a distance of 13.4 km on it. [1]

3. An area of 80 cm2 on a map represents an area of 5 km2 on the field. Find the R.F.
of this map and draw a diagonal scale to show kilometres, hectometres and
decametres and to measure up to 3 km. Indicate on the scale a distance of 2 km, 4
hm and 7 dam. [2]

4. The distance between Palakkad and Chennai is 560 km. They are shown 392 mm
apart on a road map. Find the R.F and construct a diagonal scale to measure up to
200 km and show the distance of 126 km on the scale.[2]

5. On a building plan, a 20 cm long line represents a distance of 10 m. Construct a

vernier scale to read up to 8 m, showing metres, decimetres and centimetres. Show
the length 6.53 m on the scale. [2]

6. Construct a full-size vernier scale of inches and show on it lengths 3.67”, 1.54” and
0.48”. [2]
