CHAPTER 3

Research Methodology

Research Design

Qualitative research is often defined as being subjective and

findings are gathered in a written format as opposed to numerical.

The underlying reason for carrying out any qualitative research is to

gain a richly detailed understanding of a particular topic, issue, or

meaning based on first-hand experience. This is achieved by having

a relatively small but focused sample base because collecting the

data can be rather time consuming; qualitative data is concerned

with depth as opposed to quantity of findings. The result of

qualitative methods are more descriptive and the inferences can be

drawn quite easily from the data that is obtained. In this research,

qualitative research, design was used to understand easily and

properly the gathered data. This study was conducted because of

the aspiration to discover the grammar proficiency of the AFGBMTS

Grade 11 HUMSS students and to be able to create solutions or

ways for them and also for the Grade 11 HUMSS teachers on how to

make their students learn and improve their grammar. Grounded

theory method was used in this study. It involves the collection and

analysis of data by the survey papers through the means of online

platforms. 100 students from Grade 11 HUMSS strand were selected

to undergo the survey. After that, the data gathered will be analyzed

to get the result of the study.

Locale of the Study

This study was conducted in a public school in Marilao

District, Division of Bulacan. It is situated in Lias, Marilao, Bulacan.

The school was established in 1967. {BATAS PAMBANSA BLG. 863,

Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School. The

late Assemblywoman Felicita Gonzales Bernardino, on the other

Automotive Servicing (AUTO). Another type of good and cheerful

teacher is one who, despite having a lot to teach is always ready to

teach and make the students happy.

Sample of the Study

Non-probability sampling, namely purposive sampling, was

employed in this investigation. This sampling approach selects

samples based on the opinion of an expert. Only 347 HUMSS

students were chosen for the study out of 1,407 Senior High School

students at the school but only 205 cooperated and agreed to

participate. The HUMSS pupils were chosen because they had been

identified as students who needed extra help at school to enhance

their English grammar. It was done in order for a suggested

continuous improvement effort to be tailored exclusively for these

remediation pupils. Students from the study since they no longer

require remediation.

Research Instrument

This researcher used questionnaires to answer statement of

the problem. It is a set of printed or written questions with a choice

of answers, devised for the purposes of a survey or statistical study.

The researcher would pick 100 students and would be given a

questionnaires and analyse it, then compile and organize it into an

analytic chart. After it has been turned into an analytic chart, the

researcher would pick which choice of answer is the most picked

one out of the others. After that, the researcher would narrow it

down into percentile to show the difference in gaps.

Validation of the Instrument

Questionnaire can be readily done by conducting a pilot test.

Since the instrument is a standardized test, it did not go undergo

content validity but had its pilot testing to check its validity.

Quantification is the expression or measurement of the quantity of

something. Pilot testing is done by the researcher to check whether

the answers or anything close to it is the same or similar to others.

It would be done by putting the result of the pilot test will be put

into a spreadsheet and will be done by using the Principal

Component Analysis (PCA). It shows if Filipino HUMSS students are

fluent to write english or have the proficiency the average HUMSS

student has. After the researcher conducts and finalize the pilot

test. They would then conduct a real test to a hundred random

HUMSS students to answer the questionnaire. After that they would

repeat the process the pilot test had been in by putting it in a

spreadsheet and using PCA to finalize it.
