CLASS: ICT SEMESTER 8
SCHEDULE: EVERY SUNDAY [6:00 – 9:00 PM]
SEMESTER SCHEDULE 13TH NOVEMBER 2022 – 13TH FEBRUARY 2023

1. Course Description:
This course teaches what every student should know about Artificial Intelligence. AI is a fast-moving
technology with impacts and implications for both our individual lives and society as a whole. In this course,
students will get a basic introduction to the building blocks and components of artificial intelligence, learning
about concepts like algorithms, machine learning, and neural networks. Students will also explore how AI is
already being used, and evaluate problem areas of AI, such as bias. The course also contains a balanced look at
AI’s impact on existing jobs, as well as its potential to create new and exciting career fields in the future.
Students will leave the course with a solid understanding of what AI is, how it works, areas of caution, and what
they can do with the technology.

2. Aims & Objectives (Course Core Skills):

The goal of this course is to impart the student with the skills and understanding in:
▪ Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
▪ Perception and Intelligence in AI
▪ Algorithms in AI
▪ Machine Learning

3. Course Learning Outcomes:
The learning outcomes of the course will include the Understanding of:
▪ Theoretical and practical perspectives of AI
▪ Areas and applications of AI
▪ Perception and intelligence
▪ Machine learning
▪ Deep learning and neural networks
▪ Humans and AI
▪ Ethical AI and biases

4. Teaching and Learning Pattern:

▪ You are expected to prepare for every class by reading and practicing in advance the lecture notes that
will always be given to you. Class lectures will discuss extensively on the key concepts and ideas of
each topic with additional insight. Most importantly, class lectures will clarify students' questions and
initiate the lively discussion.
▪ The course involves Lectures, Homework Assignments, One Midterm Quiz, A Group Presentation, and
Final Exam.
▪ I will create an active education environment to motivate you to understand and apply the knowledge for
this course. Therefore, attendance and class participation are critical.
▪ If your personal schedule entails missing some class sessions (more than 10 hours of classes), please
drop this course. If you will be absent from a class, please notify me by email in advance. Absence for a
class does not relieve you of your responsibility for the subject matter, assignments when they are due,
and other course-related issues discussed during that class period. An "A" student must strive to attend
all classes and actively provide thoughtful and relevant comments to class discussions.

5. Homework Assignments, Quiz, Group Presentation, & Final Exam:

▪ There is one a one-hour mid-term quiz, individual/group assignments, and a final exam.
▪ There are NO scheduled make-up tests or quizzes, so it is important that you take all tests at their
scheduled times. If you have a problem with a test date for a valid reason like a last-minute accident or
illness, you must contact the teacher immediately by email or phone before the actual test time. Failure
to do so will mean getting a zero score.
▪ Late submissions of homeworks or assignments cannot be accepted unless there is a real emergency
(job excuses don't and can never be accepted) and prior permission of the teacher has been obtained.

▪ You may appeal any score on a test or an assignment, but such appeal must be made in writing or in
person within one week from the time the test or homework is returned to the class.
▪ Students will have to spend time and effort outside of class with the aim of clearly understanding the
concepts that will be taught and the practical that will be given.

6. Communication:
Email is the best way to communicate with me. I intend to reply your emails within 24 hours. Therefore, I
expect the same courtesy from you. Email will be a very important mode of communication in this class as we
meet only once a week. Also, we shall be communicating through our Class WhatsApp Group, where
advertisements, lecture notes and other materials shall be shared.
You can also contact me directly through my mobile number in case it is an urgent communication.

7. Class Conduct & Behavior:

IMPORTANT!
The use of any mobile device, such as laptop, smart phones, etc., during a class session is not permitted
unless the teacher has approved its use. Please silence your devices and put them in your bag or jacket.
Please be complete ICT professionals!

8. Teacher's Expectations Of Students:

One of our goals in GUB is to prepare you for a professional career and we wish to instill good habits through
insisting on a high level of conduct in all your classes. The following behaviors are unacceptable in this class:
▪ Poor time management (always coming late to class)
▪ Failing to notify the teacher by call, email or through the class leader when you are absent from class.
▪ Leaving while class is in session for reasons other than an emergency.
▪ Falling asleep or resting your head on the desk/chair.
▪ Answering a call, talking or murmuring in class or with your friend.
▪ Wearing headphones while class is in session.
▪ Web surfing, Facebooking, Whatsapping, Twittering, Tiktoking or use of any other social media in class

9. Students' Expectations Of The Teacher:

▪ The teacher will ensure that class time is worth your while for attendance, assuming the students have
done the readings and homework.
▪ The teacher will also refrain from electronic communication to others during class time.
▪ The teacher will not leave the classroom for reasons other than emergency or illness.
▪ The teacher will clearly communicate the time and deadlines for assignments, quizzes, tests, projects
and final exam in a timely fashion.
▪ The teacher will strive to return exams, assignments and projects in a timely fashion.
▪ The teacher will strive to enforce the course and college integrity policies fairly with integrity.

10. Academic Integrity:

IMPORTANT!
I personally take academic integrity very seriously, and if there are any violations like copying,
duplicating, etc., the consequences will be terrible – zero marks.
Please don't take this issue lightly because plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated.
