Assignment - 1 (CLO1)

This document contains 7 questions regarding power system analysis for an assignment. Question 1 asks to draw an impedance diagram for a 3 generator system and mark impedances in per unit. Question 2 asks to find the Ybus matrix for a given network. Question 3 modifies a given Ybus matrix to include mutual coupling between two branches. Question 4 develops the primitive admittance and incidence matrices and then the Ybus matrix for a 3 bus system with mutual coupling. Question 5 draws the admittance diagram for a 4 bus system and reduces it to 3 buses by removing one. Questions 6 and 7 involve determining the Zbus matrix using an algorithm and modifying the Zbus by removing a branch.

Power System Analysis & Design

Assignment # 01
Total Marks: 15 CLO1 Session 2020

Q1. The rating of the generators and transformers of the 3-φ system shown below are given as

Gen 1: 20 MVA, 20 kV, 𝑋𝑑" = 20 %

Gen 2: 20 MVA, 20 kV, 𝑋𝑑" = 25 %
Gen 3: 30 MVA, 13.8 kV, 𝑋𝑑" = 15 %

T1, T2, T3 and T4: 20 MVA, (138 / 20) kV, 𝑋 = 10 %

T5 and T6: 15 MVA, (138 / 13.8) kV, 𝑋 = 10 %
Draw the impedance diagram for the power system. Mark the impedances in per unit. Use a base
of 100 MVA, 132 kV in 40-Ω line. [2]

j 40 Ω

j 20 Ω j 20 Ω

Q2. Find the Ybus of the network given below. (All the values shown are reactances) [2]

Q3. Ybus of a 4-bus system is given below. Modify the Ybus to add the effect of mutual coupling
between the branches ①-② and ①-③. Assume that the bus ① is dotted end of both branches
and mutual impedance of these branches is j0.08 pu. [2]

𝑗2.398 𝑗2.703 −𝑗8.296 𝑗3.195
0.0 𝑗3.003 𝑗3.195 −𝑗6.508
Q4. Single-line diagram of a three-bus power system is shown in the figure below. The values shown
on the diagram are impedances in per unit. Dots represent mutual coupling between branches 1-
3 and 2-3 and the value of mutual impedance between them is j0.15 per unit. [2]

(a) Evaluate the following matrices for this

power system:

i. Primitive Admittance Matrix

ii. Branch-to-Node Incidence Matrix

(b) Using the two matrices evaluated in part (a),

develop the Ybus of this power system.
