Team Exercise 5 2022-23 - Exercise Set Simplex - Set 1 of 3

This study guide provides instructions for a problem set involving linear programming and the simplex method. Students are asked to work in teams to solve 8 problems that maximize or minimize linear objective functions subject to various inequality constraints. The problems cover topics like maximizing/minimizing linear functions with two or three variables, dealing with less than or equal to and greater than or equal to constraints, and ensuring non-negativity conditions are satisfied. Students are to solve the problems using the simplex method and submit individual write-ups in Microsoft Word by the end of the week via the course's Canvas page.

LINEAR PROG: SIMPLEX METHOD

EXERCISE SET 1 (1ST OF THREE EXERCISE SETS in SIMPLEX: TO BE SOLVED ASYNCH BY TEAM)

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? (Introduction):

This EXERCISE SHEET (5X1) is ONE OF THREE EXERCISE SETS designed to help students
understand the topic better. Each problem shall be solved by TEAM using SIMPLEX method and
uploaded INDIVIDUALLY to the CANVAS link on or before the end of the week.

HOW DO WE GO ABOUT THIS (Instructions):

solve them together (submit your final output using Microsoft word) & upload individually into
CANVAS.

PROBLEM SET (Instructions): USE SIMPLEX METHOD ONLY TO FIND OPTIMUM SOLUTION.

1. MAXIMIZE: Z = 180X + 100Y

Subject to: 4X + 2Y =< 60
2X + 4Y =< 48
X, Y >= 0;

2. MINIMIZE: Z = 160X + 150Y

Subject to: 3X + 5Y =< 15
4X + 4Y >= 16
X, Y >= 0;

3. MAXIMIZE: Z = 80X + 60Y

Subject to: 4X + 2Y =< 60
2X + 4Y =< 48
X, Y >= 0;

4. MAXIMIZE: Z = 50A + 100B + 150 C

Subject to: 2A + 2B =< 200
3C =< 150
4A + 4C =< 600
A, B, C >= 0;

5. MAXIMIZE: Z = 50A +20B

Subject to: A =< 20;
B =< 30;
A + B >= 48;
A, B >= 0;

6. MAXIMIZE: Z = 5A +4B
Subject to: 2A + B = 12;
2A + 3B =< 24;
2A + 9B >= 36;
A, B >= 0;
7. MINIMIZE: Z = 60X + 50Y
Subject to: 3X + 5Y =< 15
4X + 4Y >= 16
X, Y >= 0;

8. MINIMIZE: Z = 6P + 15C
Subject to: P + C = 400
P =< 150
C >= 200
P, C >= 0;
