our Principal, Dr. Megha Gokhe Madam for giving me this opportunity to learn about use of google
forms for conducting online survey on an educational problem.
By doing this assignment, I got to learn how to use google forms app for online survey and write a
proper report of the same. Also, I would like to thank my college, Thakur Shyamnarayan College of
Education and Research (TSCER) for providing such a nice platform for learning.

Introduction.

The educational problem which I have taken for online educational survey is “Impact of Social
Media on students”.
In today’s era of technology, use of social networking sites as increased a lot leading to its effect on
the people living in the society. This social media also influence the students in the society. As every
coin has two sides same way the impact of social media is positive as well as negative on the
students.
To study the overall impact of social media on students I have conducted an online survey from
students as well as parents perspective by using google forms.

Planning of Research.
I planned this research based on the discussions we did in our class about various educational
problems faced recently like shift from online to offline, impact of pandemic era on teenagers,
attitude of students towards homework, etc.
That day itself I decided that I would take the topic – Impact of Social Media on students, as I
thought that it would be related to present as well as future. Accordingly, I planned the questions
related to the topic and thought of including students as well as parents in this online survey through
Google forms.

Planning of Questionnaires.
While planning the questionnaires for the online survey, I decided to take total 10 questions to be
asked to students as well as parents about the Impact of Social Media on students. So my target
group was students and parents who would answer the survey questions on behalf of their child, in
total 18. I included mixed types of questions like yes-no type, wh-type questions, etc with multiple
choice options to answer from.

Data Interpretation.
Question 1 – Who are you?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 61.1% i.e 11 were parents responding and 38.9%
i.e 7 were students. Thus, it can be concluded that more number of parents responded rather than
children to the online survey.
Question 2 – Do you or your child use any social media app?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, all the 18 responders were using social media app, so it can be
concluded that almost every parent and student uses social media app.
Question 3 – How many hours of a day do you or your child spend on social media?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 50% i.e 9 of the responders spend 2-5 hours a
day on social media, 33.3% i.e 6 of the responders spend 1-2 hrs a day on social media, 11.1% i,e 2
of the responders spend 4-8 hrs a day on social media and 1 student spend more than 8 hours a day
on social media. Thus, it can be concluded that averagely 2-5 hours a day is used by students and
parents for using social media.
Question 4 – Why do you or your child use social networking sites?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 38.9%i.e 7 responders use social networking
sites to remain updated about what is trending, 27.8%i.e 5 responders use social networking sites as a
source of recreation and relaxation, 22.2% i.e 4 responders use social networking sites to socialize
and make new friends & 11.1% i.e 2 responders use social networking sites to collaborate with
fellow students and study. Thus, it can be concluded that most of the students and parents use social
networking sites to remain updated about what is trending.
Question 5 – Do you or your child think that using social media help in studies?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 55.65 i.e 10 responders think that using social
media helps in studies, 33.3% i.e 6 responders think that using social media does not helps in studies,
and 11.1% i.e 2 responders think using social media may or may not help in studies. Thus, it can be
concluded that majority of the students and parents think that using social media helps in studies.
Question 6 – How many social networking sites does you or your child use?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 50% i.e 9 responders use 1-2 social networking
sites, 44.4% i.e 8 responders use 2-5 social networking sites and 5.6% i.e 1 responder use 5-10 social
networking sites. Thus, it can be concluded that averagely students and parents use 1-5 social
networking sites.
Question 7 –What emotion does you or your child experience when using social media?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 72.2% i.e 13 responders experience happiness
when using social media, 22.2% i.e 4 responders experience boost of self confidence when using
social media and 5.6% i.e 1 responder experience fear of missing out when using social media. Thus,
it can be concluded that majority of the students and parents experience happiness when using social
media.
Question 8 – Which effect is there on you or your child’s life by using social media?

In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 77.8% i.e 14 responders agree that social media
has both positive and negative effect on their life, 22.2% i.e 4 responders say that social media has
only positive effect on their life whereas no responder agrees that social media has negative effect on
their life. Thus, it can be concluded that majority of the students and parents believe that social
media has both positive and negative effect on their life.
Question 9 – How does social networking affect you or your child’s real social life?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 61.1% i.e 11 responders sometimes feel
uncomfortable in having face to face conversation in their real social life due to social networking,
38.9% i.e 7 responders have no effect in their real social life due to social networking and not a
single responder always feel uncomfortable in having face to face conversation due to social
networking. Thus, it can be concluded that majority of the student and parents sometimes feel
uncomfortable in having face to face conversation in their real social life due to social networking.
Question 10 – Which social media do you or your child use more often?
In the pie chart, it is seen that, out of 18 responders, 33.3% i.e 6 responders use Youtube more often,
33.3% i.e 6 responders use Instagram more often, 33.3%i.e 6 responders use Whatsapp more often
whereas not a single responder use Facebook that much. Thus, it can be concluded that, Whatsapp,
Instagram and Youtube app are used more often by the students and parents.

Conclusion.
Therefore, from the online survey about “Impact of Social Media” from students and parents
perspective through Google forms, it can be concluded that majority of the students and parents use
social media app nowadays for atleast 1-5 hours a day to either remain updated about what is
trending or as a source of recreation and relaxation. They think that social media helps in studies, and
use atleast 1-5 social media apps and mostly experience happiness when using it. Majority of the
students and parents think that social media has positive as well as negative effect on their life and
they sometimes feel uncomfortable in having face to face conversation in real social life. The more
often used social media apps by parents and students are Whatsapp, Youtube and Instagram.
Thus, all this makes it clear that Social Media has large impact on the students as well as parents life.
It influences their real social life too and they invest most of the time of a day in it.

Self Reflection.
While doing this assignment I got to learn a lot about how to use google forms for conducting online
survey as well as about how to actually conduct a survey.
Following are my learnings from this assignment –
1. I explored Google forms app.
2. I learned to collect online data for the survey.
3. I learned to interpret the data collected and come to a conclusion.
4. It improved my soft skills as well as communication skills.
5. It will help me in future to conduct online research on any particular topic of importance.
