GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
(i) This question paper contains five sections.

16. A stock begins to pay dividends with the first dividend, one year from now, expected to be |100.
Each year the dividend is 10% larger than the previous year’s dividend. In which year the dividend
paid is larger than |1000?

17. 150 workers were engaged to finish a job in a certain number of days. 4 workers dropped out
on second day, 4 more workers dropped out on the third day and so on. It took 8 days more to
finish the work. Find the number of days in which the work was completed.

18. Let A, B be any two non-empty sets and R be a relation from A to B, then inverse of relation R
denoted by R −1 is a relation from B to A. Also R −1 = {(b, a) : (a, b) ∈ R.
If A = {2, 3, 4, 5}, B = {3, 6, 7, 10} and a relation R from A to B is defined as R = {(x, y) :
x divides y, x ∈ A, y ∈ B.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Write R and R −1 as sets of ordered pairs.


(ii) Write the domain and range of R −1 .

19. In a survey of 40 students, it was found that 21 had taken Mathematics, 16 had taken Physics and
15 had taken Chemistry, 7 had taken Mathematics and Chemistry, 12 had taken Mathematics and
Physics, 5 had taken Physics and Chemistry and 4 had taken all the three subjects.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Find the number of students who had taken exactly one of the three subjects.
(ii) Find the number of students who had taken Mathematics only.
