Lesson Plan in Science 5 (Dencie C. Cabarles)

The lesson plan discusses preparing students for incoming typhoons. The objectives are for students to describe wind effects given storm warning signals, role play preparing for a typhoon, and appreciate weather news. The lesson covers storm warning signals from 1 to 5, indicating increasing wind speeds and impacts from no damage to widespread damage. Students will analyze a chart showing storm signals, lead times, wind speeds, and impacts. They will describe pictures of typhoon damage and identify the relevant storm signal. The goal is for students to understand storm warnings and how to prepare for strong winds.

LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

GRADE V and VI

I. Objectives
At the end of the period, the pupils are expected to:
A. describe the effects of the winds, given a certain storm warning signals;
B. act on a role playing on preparing ourselves for the incoming typhoon; and
C. appreciate the importance of heeding or listening to weather news.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Describing the effects of the winds, given a certain storm warning signal
B. Concepts/ Ideas: When any Public Storm Warning Signal Number is hoisted or put in
effect for the first time, the corresponding meteorological conditions are not yet
prevailing over the locality. This is because the purpose of the signal is to warn the
impending occurrence of the given meteorological conditions
C. Processses: Observing, Describing, Identifying, Inferring, Classifying
D. References: Teacher’s guide, Learner’s material, YouTube

1. Word Drill

I have here a flash card. Pick one and read the TYPHOON STORM SIGNALS
word written on it. Make sure that everybody WINDS FLOOD
can hear.

2. Unlocking of difficulties

“Correct!” (Pupil will raise his hand; “PAGASA stands

“Excellent!”

3. Review “Our topic yesterday was about the effects of

typhoon.”
“What was our topic yesterday?”
(Pupils will give various answers like.

“What are the effects of typhoon?” *Typhoon can destroy buildings and houses
*Typhoons can also affect the natural
environment, and cause harm to trees and
other vegetation, including crops that
communities may rely on for sustenance or
trade, or both.)

(Pupils will give various answers like;

“Very well said! What are the things you need to *In case there is a typhoon we need to prepare

“Do you always watch the news or listen to a radio “Yes ma’am!”

“The storm signals are signal number one,

storm signal number five.”

“Very good! now I will show you pictures of places

affected by different typhoons; I want you to describe
what you see on the picture and try to guess the signal
that was raised. Are you ready?” “Yes ma’am!”

was affected with typhoon Lawin.”

activity? Minimize noise
Enjoy

2. Groupings of Pupils

Group 1 – News reporting about Storm warning signal

Group 2 – Role playing on how you’re going to prepare

if there’s a typhoon.

“Class, we are going to perform a group activity. So, I

will divide you into two groups, let’s start counting
from the left side. Start counting: 1,2……. Alright. each
group should stay in their assigned table. I will discuss
to you what will be your activity for today. Do you
understand?”

“Group 1, you are going to perform a news reporting

based on our lesson about the storm warning signals,
you’re going to give us information about the typhoon
and give us warnings if it is signal 1,2,3,4 or 5. Do you
understand?”

“Group 2, you are going to make a scene on preparing

for the incoming typhoon. Show us the right things to do
on how to be prepared. Do you understand?”
“I will give you five minutes to prepare. We are going
to start after five minutes”

3. Giving of Activity Sheets

I have here some materials that you can you.

May I request a representative to get your
materials here in front.

state weather bureau PAGASA said Urduja

gustiness of up to 90 km/h. Due to Urduja's
