INTRODUCTION

You are invited to participate in a study conducted by Sencion, Elsie, P., Suetos, Mariene
Vien , Surail, Nordihadje J., Tabay, Aijunful G., Tadena Joanne M. and Yntig, Clara Jean N. , at
Brg. Puntalinao Banaybanay Davao Oriental, because you fit the inclusion criteria for
informants of our study.

Your participation is completely voluntary. Please read the information below, and
ask question about anything you do not understand, before decide to discuss participation
with your family or friends.

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to sign this form and will be given a
copy of this form.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

This study aims to learn about local fisherfolks experiences with seasonal fisheries
closures, particularly among fisherfolks in Puntalinao, Piso and Maputi Banaybanay,
Davao Oriental. The researchers also want to know how they understand and how it
affects their life.

Specifically, this study aims to: 

1. To determine the lived experiences of local fishermen in Puntalinao, Piso and


Maputi Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, as a result of the Seasonal Fisheries
Closure.
2. To know what are the programs or interventions provided by the government
to the local fisherfolks of Puntalinao, Piso and Maputi Banaybanay Davao
Oriental.
3. To gain further knowledge in knowing their experiences during Seasonal
Fisheries Closure.
4. To assist them in understanding the objectives of Seasonal Fisheries Closure.

STUDY PROCEDURES

POTENTIAL RISK AND DISCOMFORTS


You may feel discomfort during the course of the interview (activity) because of the
sensitive nature of the topic being studied. You may opt not to answer questions which make
you feel any psychological or emotional distress or you can withdraw as a participant of the
study if you feel that you cannot discuss the information that is asked of you. The
researchers value your participation and will place your welfare as their highest priority
during the course of the study.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS AND/OR TO SOCIETY


(Significance of the Study)
This study conducts to find out the lived experiences of local fisherfolks in
Puntalinao, Piso and Maputi Banaybanay, Davao Oriental about the implementation of
Seasonal Fisheries Closure, and significant to the following;
 Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). They will be aware about the
result of Seasonal Fisheries Closure to the local tenant fisherfolks, and provide with
needed assistance, training, and seminars.
 Local fisherfolks. They will be able to understand the concept of the Seasonal
Fisheries Closure and should be provided with the appropriate solution, which aimed
to reduce their difficulties in fishing.
Future Researchers. The study's findings are beneficial to both current and future
researchers because they could be used as a foundation for new research or to determine the
validity of other related findings in the future. This will also serve as a cross-reference, giving
them a background or overview of the local fisherfolks experiences about the Seasonal
Fisheries Closure Implementation.

CONFIDENTIALITY
We will keep your records for this study as far as permitted by law. Any identifiable
information obtained in connection with this study will remain confidential, except if
necessary to protect your rights or welfare. This certificate means that the researcher will not
release of information about your information in publication or discuss in conferences and no
identifiable information will be used.

PARTICIPATION AND WITHDRAWAL


Your participation is voluntarily. Your refusal to participate will involve no penalty or
loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. You may withdraw your consent at any
time and discontinue participation without penalty. You are not waiving any legal claims,
rights or remedies because of your participation in the research study.
If you have any questions or concern about the research, please feel free to contact
the researcher using the above information.
