1. SCOPE:

This inspection procedure details about thorough examination & certification of Polyester
Webbing & Round Slings as per relevant standards, codes or practices.

2. REFERENCES

- LOLER 98
- BS EN 1492-1:2000 +A1:2008 Textile slings. Safety. Flat woven webbing slings made of man-
made fibers for general purpose use
- BS EN 1492-2:2000+A1:2008 Textile slings. Safety. Round slings made of man-made fibers
for general purpose use
- BS EN 1677-2:2000: Components for slings
- Manufacturer Technical Literature and Applicable Standard
- LEEA CODE of Practice for Safe Use of Lifting Equipment

3. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The person concerned with the testing, examination & certification of lifting equipment,
is referred as Lifting equipment inspector, and he should have such practical & theoretical
knowledge; personnel conducting the tests according to this procedure and on behalf of Aries Group
of LEEA certification/approved equivalent engineering qualification or familiar with international
lifting equipment standards and codes for inspection and certification

4. EXAMINATION

The maximum interval between the thorough examinations of the Webbing sling & round
sling shall not exceed six (6) months.

Inspection of webbing sling & round slings shall be carried as described here.

All statutory safety requirements as to safety on working on cranes, hoists, ladders,


scaffolding & other equipment must be observed
1) Prior to examination of Web and Round slings, Inspector should ensure that,
o Identification Tag completes with ID No. and SWL is present and correct.
o Manufacturer’s test certificate, or last proof load test certificate is available for review.
2) The Sling to be laid out in good light and examined over its entire length for,
o Damage caused by sharp edges, i.e., cutting or nicking.
o Damage caused by abrasion, i.e., burning or scuffing.
o Impact damage.
o Contamination by chemicals.
o In the case of web slings special attention must be given to the eye and stitching therein.
o Examine & check for fatigue , the becoming brittle due to the bending back & forth or being
bent over sharp corners
o Terminal fittings if any will be thoroughly examined. All the terminal fittings shall have their
own certificates which will be revived by the inspector

Note: At any point of time, if the Inspector is having doubt on technical matters, they must get the support of other
qualified /experienced persons.

5. REPORTING & CERTIFICATION

After the satisfactory completion of the test & examination, the chain sling shall be color
coded or tagged & certificate of thorough examination is issued with unique id number (Doc No :
Aries-LEI-01-Rev 04)
A defect report will be issued if the chain sling fails the acceptance criteria of the
examination (Aries-LEI-03 Rev 04)
RESPONSIBILITY
The concerned Lifting Equipment Inspector is responsible for the issue of certificate and
should ensures that electronic copy will be maintained in the company records’

6. SAFETY

All personals performing lifting equipment inspection shall

a. Do not tamper or alter the engineering safety controls on equipment’s (if any) / appliance dealt
b. Adhere to safe work procedures, methods applicable
c. Attend & have validity of mandatory training applicable to work & work site
d. Use applicable appropriate & adequate PPE as demanded by job
